In case you didn't see the warning in the title;
The latest episode in discussion is Episode 98. If you have not yet watched up to this episode, read at your own risk. There is a lot to both discuss and consider. Please, keep comments in here about the discussion on hand, and refrain from posts that only contain things like "Wow, this technique is cool!" and that do not further the potential of the discussion. There also stands a chance that references to the manga, which is much further along than the anime in plot, could be made and that if you have not read the latest manga chapter that such information could be given to you.

Alright, so the current filler arcs with Guuren are probably some of the highest quality fillers I've seen in Naruto thus far. I want to discuss it with people, because the more that I'm seeing, the more and more I'm becoming completely and utterly impressed by it.
First and foremost, there is Guuren, the user of the "Crystal Release". I've been kind've listening but I've been unable to really catch the name of the technique in Japanese (like Katon/Doton/Suiton), so if anyone can name that, it'll be a huge "thumbs up" deal. Now, when I was first watching Guuren, I was thinking that her techniques stemmed mostly from Doton, but the more that I'm watching it, the more that you come to realize that it isn't a Doton-based technique at all, but rather something that stands completely by itself. Obviously, it stands to reason that Guuren's techniques are a "Bloodlimit", as is practically proved when she mentions to Kakashi that her techniques cannot be copied by the Sharingan.
There stands her one critical drawback, however. Guuren is only capable of crystallizing things that actually do have a substance. She has been shown to be completely unable to crystallize chakra, only to utilize her chakra to crystallize other things. Would this mean that Raiton, Fuuton, and Katon are immune to her crystallizing techniques and could be used to counter it? I'm unsure, because she used her technique to crystallize the water from the Combination Ninjutsu performed by Naruto and Gamatatsu. It was a combination of both Fuuton and Suiton, but the technique was stopped. Was this merely because the Suiton was crystallized, and thus the Fuuton had nothing to combine with and then became ineffective, or did it crystallize the wind's pressure as well?
Next, we're also seen that Guuren's Crystal Technique is capable of resonating with chakra in the following sense; as chakra strikes it, it seems to repel it and cause a vibration. This was shown in two separate ways- the first situation was when Hinata attempts to use her Byakugan to scout out the area. The chakra from the Byakugan was striking against the crystal and, in the mind of Hinata, she was suddenly being presented with millions upon millions of images of herself. In the next situation, we have Guuren using the Five Crystal Pillars in the water in the summoning of the Sanbi. What do you guys think about this aspect of the 'Crystal Release'?
Moving away from Guuren's abilities, we shall discuss the man that fought against Hinata while they were within the smokescreen. His body was covered by a strange material, and he was also capable of stretching and manipulating his body as if her were made out of rubber. This was shown to be effective in two different ways. The first, obviously, was his ability to attack and defend in multiple ways that would normally be a bad match-up for someone who couldn't see all the attacks coming (i.e. Byakugan). However, away from that, he was also seen to be constantly moving the center of his chakra circulatory system so that Hinata wouldn't land a solid strike upon it, thus resulting in her (incredibly) easy defeat. Now, this man's "Rubber Ninjutsu", what do you guys think it is that allows this technique, and what special properties do you think his suit seems to hold?
Now, we're also left with multiple manners of chakra detection techniques being shown here. Hinata utilizes it right before they get ambushed and Kakashi and the strong dude end up fighting. Outside of her, the only normal looking guy from Orochimaru's base also seems to be utilizing strange forms of it, although I'm not really sure if he's sensing chakra, or if he's the one who is using the bat's sonar techniques. It specifically made the sound of the kikaichu buzzing in his ears, so I'm not really sure in this case. What do you think? Not only on that, what do you think about chakra sensory techniques at all, now that we've seen a great number of people performing them throughout the anime and the manga?
Onto the next coolest thing that I can think about- the Combination Ninjutsu between Shinobi and Summons. It shows the basis of "animal companionship", as NFRP terms it, between the user and the summoner. They learn to be so in sync with each other that they can utilize both of their chakras at the same time, combining two separate elemental techniques into one incredibly powerful elemental technique. The only other time that we heard about 'elemental combination' techniques was in the manga, when Kisame fought and took down the five-tailed Bijuu, making it clear that this is no easy feat. Now, what do you think about Combination Ninjutsu? Can you see it beginning to work on NFRP? What steps would have to be taken? Etc.
Let's talk about a little more here. There are a couple of things that I want to talk about when we're considering Hinata. First, is the proof that Byakugan doesn't actually enhance the user's eyesight, but rather acts as a secondary form of eyesight. This is proven when Hinata proclaims, "They can take away my smell and my sight, but they cannot take away my Byakugan." It also finally shows, without a doubt, that the vision becomes different, and becomes completely black and white. Also, please note how easy it was for her to detect chakra within the Byakugan- its bright and shining while everything else, while visible, is dull and gray. Opinions on new revelations into the Byakugan?
Also, the "32 Strikes". If this were to be implemented onto NFRP, what ranking would this fall under? It seems to me to still be a powerful technique, and I'm not really sure that it would fall under "C" Ranking. With that being said, in my mind, it also doesn't come even remotely close to being strong enough for a ranking into the "B" Ranks. Because of that, I'm thinking that the attack will probably not be implemented at all, especially since there's currently the Hinata fandom going ballistic with her fight against Pein and the results of that situation.
Aaaand... finally, OMFGWTFHAXTHEYSUMMONEDTHESANBI? The Sanbi, or "Three-Tailed Beast", is a powerful demonic creature that is composed entirely out of chakra. Because of its' composition, it is capable of taking in and composing itself out of anything that relates to its' chakra nature which is, obviously, water. I had thought when watching the episode for the first time that the lake shore that they were at looked familiar, but I couldn't place it. And then, of course, I realized that the shore was the same place where Deidara and Tobi fought and captured the Sanbi!
Since we know that the Sanbi is captured by Akatsuki, specially the individuals involved with the capture, we're left to wonder as to how Orochimaru's interference with the Bijuu is going to play a role with the anime. Obviously, as a creature of pure chakra, the Sanbi is going to be unaffected by Guuren's crystallizing techniques, as was mentioned earlier. However, that doesn't mean that she can't attack by crystallizing the water around her and turning it into weapons. Do you think that capture of the Sanbi is the goal in this situation, and what would be Orochimaru's purpose?
Another question that comes to mind, obviously, is, "Does Guuren know that she can't yet crystallize chakra?" She obviously didn't think that Hinata was going to be able to come out of the transition alive. Was this Orochimaru's true test all along? For a while, I had thought that Orochimaru was just stringing Guuren along with talks about potentially making her his next host. However, what comes to mind next is that he might not be stringing her along at all. He said that he needed to test something, and that only she would be able to test it. That could very easily mean that he wanted to test her ability to crystallize chakra, specifically that of tailed beasts, to see if they could be bested that way. If such a test were successful, I'd definitely be thinking about taking over that body, too.
I mean, we already know that he has two very serious enemies at this point: Akatsuki and Konoha. He also is aware of Akatsuki's plan, since he was, at one point, a prominent member of the organization and one of their agents. He would know what Pein has in store and could be attempting to stop it because it interferes with his own plans. That also being said, he also knows that there are Jinchuuriki out there who can easily fight with the best of anyone else. Knowing that he could take on a new city while crystallizing their best defenses, the Jinchuuriki, would make me feel a lot more comfortable.
And, finally, WTF AT THE KID WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SANBI SUMMONING? Guuren's crystals amplified and reflected the chakra, but seriously, what kind of power does he have, no matter how it is enhanced, to summon one of the tailed beasts? He's definitely someone that I want some more information on. That was a lot of chakra that he was pumping out, enough to begin to rival Dragon Ball Z Super-Seiyan Charging, you catch my drift? Lol, at any rate, I think I'm done for now, but I eagerly await everyone's responses.
Thoughts?
