The smoke was quickly accompanied by some orange flames and despite that Emi was in chock, he was able to get enough sense into himself to throw all of the buckets of water on the flames. The oven could handle the water, but when he realized that the water could've just as well have damaged the metals even more, he began to question his quick decision. When he was finally able to retrieve the blade from the charcoal that was left from the woods beneath it, he saw that there were a lot of damage to it. Most of it was however surrounding the crystals, which for some reason had managed to survive the flames just fine. The young boy began to think about all he knew about metals and how they reacted to each other, which was fairly much. But he just couldn't come up with why they had been so reactive.
The metal was mostly useless at that point, so he cut up it in pieces to salvage what wasn't ruined and then threw away the rest. At first he wondered if he dared to do the blade yet again and if it would make a difference if he added the symbol after the heating, but then he decided that he just had to try. There were no reason for him to stop completely, he had to learn what to do and not when crafting with weird materials. So he just sighed and went into the chest and brought out some more of the metal, which he immediately refined and then made into the same type of blade. Even though he hurried up the process to get it over with, it appeared as his hands had remembered how to do it. The result was almost the same, but with the hole in the blade slightly thinner still and a little further up.
It was mostly because of the aesthetics of the blade than anything else, but that made the area beneath it so much more promising to place the symbol. Emi then made the normal proceedings and hardened it before throwing it into the freshly cleaned up oven. But instead of doing some other things as he waited for the blade to be done in the oven, Emi sat by it and watched through the small window. It was quite satisfying for him to sit there just watching as the flames danced around the blade. When the time was up, he knew that there had been some kind of reaction all due to the symbol as the metals had handled themselves just fine. So when he brought it out to put in the symbol, he worried that it would make some kind of aggressive reaction again.
