Suiton: Chiisaimizubakahatsu (Tiny Water Explosion)
Rank: “D”
Type: Ninjutsu
Effect: Creates a small wave of water that rushes towards an opponent.
Special: "Handseals"
Drawback: N/A
Description: The user performs the handseals described in special. There, they release chakra into the water and send a small tidal wave (about five feet tall) towards the opponent. The water moves at a speed of about ten miles per hour, so a direct hit from the water can be painful, but not life-threatening.

Dawn stretched lazily as he walked to the waters of one of Kirigakure's great bays, reflexively allowing his chakra to flow to his feet as he stepped upon them, watching the small ripples caused by him walking disperse over the calm waters of the bay. He stopped a dozen yards or so away from shore, looking up at the misty, early morning sky, he stretched once more and said "Something simple to warm up with..." to himself as he prepared for the training regimen he began every morning here.
Reaching down to feel the cold water's embrace against his hand for a moment, he went over the simple sequence of handseals in his mind as he idly twirled the water with his finger, "getting a feel" for it as he normally did when training Suiton here. Standing up again, he performed the seals once more without committing his chakra to them.
And then, he jumped straight into it. He performed the seals at full speed and channeled his chakra into his feet into the water below, willing it to push the water itself forward. But, the burst of chakra was too uncontrolled, creating a small, foot high-disturbance that barely even crested. He expected it to fail...but it helped him to go through the motions of what his chakra would have to do before he actually performed it successfully.
He remembered from his years in the Academy just how a Suiton wave successfully formed; unlike most waves that broke on beaches, which were formed from distant winds acting on the top of the water, waves ninja with Suiton abilities used were formed from within the water itself. By creating a current beneath the water's surface, similar to how the tides could generate small waves, it would therefore push water up and forward with the user's chakra, thus evolving the wave even from the calmest of waters. The technique Dawn wanted to learn was just a simpler, smaller variation of that basic idea.
After reflecting on that for a brief moment, he resolved to get this jutsu on the second try. Concentrating and then quickly performing the handseals, he let his chakra flow once more through his feet and into the water, calling upon the water itself to be pushed forwards. His chakra made the current happen, and as he held the handseal, he could easily feel it pushing forwards at a steady, constant pace. But as he looked up, he could easily tell something had gone wrong. Though his current was working hard beneath the water, it was barely even making a swell on the surface. Obviously, he had overestimated how deep he needed to make the initial current. He could easily feel the drain of fighting against water pressure rather than working with it. He was putting his chakra in the right place if he was trying to make a wave of about a B rank's power and height, but with such a small amount of chakra, meant only to make a wave about 5 feet high and traveling about 10 miles an hour, it was doing absolutely nothing useful at that depth.
But he noticed his mistake, and dispelled the jutsu. He then performed the handseals once more and let the chakra required flow into the water, this time at a much higher depth, almost at the surface. Pushing his chakra forwards, he found it was much easier, and the wave evolving before him was turning out nicely. As it traveled a few yards more from its starting point, it began to crest and reach the jutsu's maximum potential of five feet in height, travelling at a steady pace...but eventually, it seemed to reach its maximum range, and the wave fell apart.
Though it was passable for most, Dawn knew that the wave had taken too long to reach its maximum height...he needed it to happen nearly instantaneously for it to be of any use. The jutsu was only meant for him to train, and he never expected to use it all that much in combat...but still, as a training perfectionist, he wanted everything he did to be at its peak.
So, he decided to give it a go once more, changing the angle of his chakra to push the water up more than forwards at first, making the chakra move less in a line and more in a "rounding a corner" fashion. He performed the seals one more time and felt the chakra flow from his feet, going slightly deeper this time to gather more water, and then pushed it forward less than a second before he felt the chakra would leave the water entirely. And, to his surprise, his technique seemed to work quite well.
The water nearly crested and broke as it reached the surface, but he managed to push his chakra forward at just the right time as it created a 3 foot swell before him. Building on the top of the water and using more to feed its growth, it reached its 5 foot maximum height much more quickly than it did last time, and with some effort, Dawn controlled his chakra imbued within the wave quite well, managing to keep it steady for as long and as far as he could before he finally let it drop, letting it crash down on the water with a solid splash.
Smiling, he gave it one more go, performing the handseals and pushing the water up and forward, this time focusing on the maintenance of the wave's integrity rather than creating it, which he had down pat. He kept his chakra flowing forward, making small adjustments here and there to its structure and speed when he felt it about to disintegrate prematurely, making the wave much "cleaner," and sturdier in its appearance, and undoubtedly, more effective at long ranges.
He smiled to himself as he let the jutsu fall apart, stretching once more as he took a look at the notes he had brought with him. He'd get a lot done today, that was for sure.
