..Enter from this thread, learning Animal Empathy (Wolf, Strum/Timber)..
Partaking in a failure of my first event since being recruited was not what I had in mind. Initially, I had wanted to impress the late Souzen with my various abilities, but instead, was embarrassed before a former Amekage. Yoko, the black Timber Wolf had not been overly cooperative during the event, and was hurled across that pier like a sack of spuds. Yoko and I had not had much time in properly bonding to the point of knowing how the other feels, and this had cost both of us the fight.
Irritated, I crouched down on the balcony of my secondary residence where Yoko lay beside me with his eyes closed. Neither of us seemed in a good mood, but I wanted to change the miss-communication between my companion and myself. Closing my eyes, I remembered what I had experienced when out at the pier facing Souzen. Yoko had seemed chippy in his barks; his leaping forward slightly and growling did signify that he was upset about Souzen’s being. But his growls were a warning for Souzen not to attack me.
Or at least that was what I had thought. But rather, I honestly felt as if Yoko was simply being territorial since he was the only male in the area before Souzon’s arrival. My mauve coloured eyes snapped open before my head jerked in the direction of Yoko. “Yoko,” I say softly, aware that my tone held a slight harshness to it. Did I blame Yoko for our failure? The wolf raised his head and stared at me. My eyes flicker toward his tail before roaming back up to his face, but Yoko’s tail did not wag. What does that mean?
Gazing directly into the wolf’s eyes, I noticed the intelligence within them. He simply gazed at me, lolling silently. Gingerly, I raise my hand and holds it out toward Yoko’s muzzle. The wolf smells my hand for a few moments before nudging it with his nose, a yawn escaping from his maw as he stretched. “What happened out there, Yoko? I thought we understood each other.” I said softly, leaning forward to rest my forehead against his ruff. Yoko stood up and barked at me.
This bark was sharp and one syllabled. He stood up and moved around to my left and nudged me again, his teeth nipping at my shoulder. The slight growl he emitted from deep within his throat was enough for me to realize that he was unhappy with me for blaming him. Yoko sits down and continued to stare at me, his pink tongue no longer dropping out from the side of his mouth. I sigh in defeat, “I am sorry, boy..” I murmur, gaze cast to the village below the balcony.
Yoko nudges my shoulder again and licked the side of my face. The bark came again, but this time it was ended with a slight whistle-like whimper. Was that forgiveness? My gaze shifted toward his eyes again, this time I saw my own grief reflected in his. Was Yoko sympathising with me? Or at least attempting to understand me this time? Another yawn and Yoko lowered himself back to the floor of the balcony, his head resting between his two front legs. I raise my and and begin to pet his ruff and head before straightening up. Had Yoko and I finally shared some emotion and understanding? Or do I not know my friend as well as I thought?
