Akihiko stood in an open area, the sky cloudy as the air around him was hazy with the Village's namesake. He was in his mission clothing, his grey robes, tactical vest, stuffed with his weapons- aside the katana on his back- and shoes. Before him in the moderate sized clearing was a log, standing straight up. It was not stuck in the ground, nor was it held in place in anyway save it's balance and weight. This technique was simple, which was what he wanted to begin with. After all, this was his first time training completely alone on a technique he chose to learn of his own free will.
He had laid down some gravel before the log, a line of it leading from it to him. It had been a simple task to obtain it legally, and a small price to pay. The technique he planned to learn was all about knocking his opponent backwards, away from the user. It was recommended to begin with sliding on a surface to build up momentum, and he had too many experiences as a child gaining momentum on gravel. He had a couple of faded scars to prove it.
He gave himself a little distance from the log, hoping this would be enough. The ninja was crouched low, ready to charge and bring his palms under what he designated the "waistline" of the log by making a cut with his kunai. A gentle breeze caressed his skin, and dislodged a leaf from a nearby tree. He waited for it to touch the earth, and the second it did, he was off. Akihiko charged towards the log as fast as he could, right palm flat and ready. He hit the gravel, and thought he had his balance, but lost it a split second later.
Next thing he knew, he fell on his back and slid towards the log, knocking it over with his momentum to it's base, which caused it to fall directed on top of him.
He groaned from the pain for a few moments before pushing the log off him. His face beet red, he prayed to whatever deity was out there no one saw that. Akihiko quickly replaced the log to it's former position and tried to gather the somewhat scattered gravel back into the line he desired. When he was done, Akihiko ran back to his starting position. Face still red with embarrassment and determination, he felt his brow begin to sweat. He felt a drop of sweat roll down the side of his face.
He ignored it, and charged. Akihiko gained speed on solid footing, and when it came time for the gravel, he was ready. He slid on to it and kept his balance, bringing his palm up from under the waistline and into the log's surface. It was knocked backwards, and the force it took to do so stopped Akihiko's forward movement. The log lifted off the ground for a second before falling over on to the ground before him a short distance away, about a foot and half, two feet he estimated. Nothing much, but it was a start.
