FIRST TIME [0/10]
Katsu floated in a sea of blackness; nothing save himself in the void. He felt half-conscious, listless, without purpose. Katsu knew he was somewhere between life and death; the pain in his chest confirmed that. It was a strange sensation; to be so disconnected from your own body that you couldn't sense anything. Of course Katsu's body was currently dying, and Katsu felt a sudden tearing sensation as he inched a little closer to true death, even in his own mind blood filled his mouth and he coughed heavily, more blood floating out into the darkness only to vanish. Clitching his chest in pain Katsu felt himself separate from... himself? His spirit falling away from his body!
Alarmed, Katsu tried to hold on for dear life, literally, but he could get a sense of what he was trying to get a hold of, and he felt himself slip away despite his best efforts. Panicking now Katsu tried to call up his Soulcaster powers; to bring to mind the world hidden from most. Suddenly Katsu was not surrounded by blackness but a roaring maelstrom of noise and colors, swirling in all directions. Clapping his hands to his ears Katsu cried out from the sudden pain, and the world went black again. Breathing heavily Katsu felt more blood rise in his throat, and he forcibly choked it back down, determined not to die.
A few moments of mental preparation and Katsu up the maelstrom once more; trying to last as long as he could through the incredible pain coursing through his being. Katsu was trying to find something of sense within that maelstrom. Something he could aim for. The noise tore at his ears, the colors at his eyes, and the wind at his body, making it so hard to concentrate on anything. The pain was mounting, greater and greater, and after a few moments Katsu couldn't hold it any longer and the maeltrom vanished. Coughing up more blood Katsu tried to recover himself; to collect his willpower for another attempt; another push for life! The maelstrom rose up again, tearing at Katsu's essence once more. His eyes flooded with searing pain Katsu forced them to stay open, looking for anything that might make sense in the maelstrom.
A dot, a tiny dot of black in the maelstrom of color! Katsu had found it. The maelstrom snapped off in a moment, bathing Katsu in total blackness once more. The dot was Life. Life was only a single point in a creature's existence; there was so much more to be found after death. The world was alive with color and sounds and experiences you simply couldn't experience while alive; while trapped in such a limited shell as a human body. The dot was a dulling of the senses, of a boring life compared to the wonders of the afterlife. Thinking on it all, Katsu began to wonder why he even wanted to grasp for his own Life. There was so much more waiting for him if he wanted to move on, so much more he could be!
Faces began to flash before Katsu's face. Satomi; his mother. Shiori and Masumi; his two sisters. Masao; his father. Marii; his Sensei. Katsumi; the girl he gave his first time to... the list ran on and on, and Katsu shook his head. He had an obligation; no, a duty to the people he had connected with in Life. He had to fight to get back to them; to fulfill his duties as a Shinobi of Kumogakure, and to live a full life for the sake of his mother and father! Breathing quickly to psyche himself up, Katsu summoned up the maelstrom once more; grunting at the influx of pain. He searched for the point of blackness amongst the colors; his eyes straining. Once he found it Katsu tried to close the distance; willing himself closer to that black dot. A lance of intense pain struck Katsu through the core, the maelstrom gone once more as Katsu cried out.
So it was going to be that kind of situation? Katsu thought to himself. Gritting his bloodied teeth Katsu reached out to the darkness, calling up the maelstrom once again. Crying out but keeping the Maelstrom active Katsu reached for the black spot, stretching his arm, willing himself to reach for the dot despite the ungodly pain he felt. His arm felt like it was on fire, or perhaps it was being dissolved in acid, but Katsu kept pushing forward... until he saw that his hand which was stretching forward was.... clawed!
