[Chuunin Examiner]

Room 25

Room Description:

A fairly large room. The room was somewhat circular but not quite. The room is 40 feet wide at the middle and 30 feet wide at the top and 15 feet wide at the bottom. There is a large steel door located at the south end of the room in a 45 degree diagonal at the south end near the center of the room. The North of the room is another door however there's a 30 foot long by 10 foot hallway that enters to the main room. This door is made out of steel.

The first thing noticeable about this room was the walls. They were jagged, nowhere near being refined. The color was deep green marble filled with some kind of metallic filaments.

The Ceilings were made out of the same substances and was approximately 15 to 20 feet high.

The walls lined with weapon racks with broken weapons, nothing usable sadly. There were at least 3 weapons of use from those who would notice. The first would be located on the far west side on a weapon rack. A simple sword with a guard and hilt. It was a dual edged long sword.

On the far east weapon rack was a polearm. A simple steel polearm with no other markings on it. To those that know weapons they could see it was a halberd.

Next to the polearm was throwing hand axe. It had the name Franceska engraved in the long-shaft, graceful-headed weapon. It was a double bladed broad axe. The axe head is longer and thinner than usual terminating in a thin leading edge. The handle is long, flat, and comparatively narrow, with a peculiar curve to it.

At the center of the room is a table with broken pieces of armor, nothing to be of use sadly. Judging from this room one could believe it was a broken down armoury.

(The one using Soul Scout, if you're coming from a room, which I suspect you are, then you're coming in from the north door.)

Once Seira had created her Soul Scout, she had sent it through the walls into the room on the other side of the door the others were inspecting. Because of this her body was standing still, while her soul was doing all the work. She felt it would be a good idea to scout the other side of the door, to check if anything was over there and if it was worth their time. When her soul got over there, the first thing she would do would be to go through the hallway and take a look around to memorize her surroundings. The room was an akward shape, kind of like a circle, but definitely not a perfect one. She took note of the rather rough walls and their metalic substances, wondering if they were the same green metal pieces that had been in the walls of the room they were currently in, and deciding that was the most likely scenario.

It was a pretty large room, yet since her soul scout could traverse fifteen meters, she could travel through the hallway, and part of the room. She took a walk around the room, looking at all of the objects, and realizing a majority of the items in here were broken armor or broken weapons. She was starting to wonder just what kind of building this place was. Yeah sure, it was for the Chuunin Exams, but the building itself had to be for something, and she was assuming they were somewhere in that same building. She inspected the racks in the hopes of finding some kind of still intact equipement, and found three weapons. One for each of them, perhaps? It seemed an unlikely coincidence that there were exactly three still usable weapons in this room when everything else was trashed.

A simple longsword on a rack to the west, a polearm with an axe-like top to the east - she believed that was called a halberd, but she wasn't any kind of weapons expert by any means - and beside that a rather nice looking axe. She inspected the axe as closely as she could get, and believed she could make out some kind of writing, possibly a name, engraved on the handle. It was a nice looking weapon, far more detailed than the other two intact ones, and by the writing she would judge it had some kind of importance. At least personal importance to whoever owned it. The weapon's name, perhaps?

Her Soul Scout wouldn't be able to reach the far end of the room, but she took note of the door on the south end, which went to show that they were probably meant to pass through this room, and possibly take the weapons that were still laying in here. Maybe they could find something else among all the armor that could potentially be of use, but that could be inspected further when they managed to get inside of the room.

After taking in everything, she would head back to the north door, to inspect it and see if she could figure anything out from this end. It seemed to be a steel door, but there had to be some kind of trick to opening it if they couldn't from the other end. She would look over it carefully to make sure there weren't any hidden hints to it.

[Chuunin Examiner]

(Short post, When you read you'll see why. I was also waiting for others to post if they were going to enter or not.)

When inspecting the axe a little closer you could tell something was off about it. She could not put her finger on it but there was something definitely wrong with the axe. It was the way it was shaped, the way it looked, and angled. It had resemblances of another weapon, like a boomerang of sorts.

When inspecting the door she would not notice anything off or wrong with it. It was a simple steel door, and nothing else. There was no trick to opening it. A simple twist to the handle and a pull judging from how the door was positioned.

[Raika Tatsu]

As soon as the door opened, Raika got ready, lowering his stance in order to move quickly just in case it wasn't Zakari opening the door. Thankfully, it was, so Raika relaxed and began walking through it. It seemed that Zakari had taken Raika's advice on caution, and from the looks of things it might have worked out. Tatsu glanced back at Seira--who was still in an out-of-body like state, before heading in through the door.

"Thank you, Zakari, for taking that chance. It could have been quite dangerous. I see you were careful with opening the door. Is the door sticky on this side too? If so, we'll have to careful with doors throughout, though perhaps in the essence of chakra conservation perhaps we can use some cloth of some kind, maybe from our own clothes. Regardless, we should keep the door open for Seira in case she doesn't awaken soon. Hopefully this area is less dangerous than the last."

Tatsu finished walking in, and as he did so he brought in the remaining Sakurai petals that were at his disposal, manipulating them to flow throughout the hallway in front of him. The petals dispersed rather evenly through the length of the hall, with a little spilling past the hallway into the larger room at the end. This all worked to brighten up the hall and room, which could help them all better assess the contents of the area. Nera poked out her head and flicked her tongue out repeatedly, getting a sense of her surroundings. Tatsu made his way down the hall, observing the jagged walls and ceiling, an interesting feature. He kept his Ryuugan on for now, in case it allowed him to catch any sign of lightning, water, or wind chakra in the area that might be used as a trap of some sort. Tatsu walked into the larger, almost circular room. This was interesting architecture, weird at the least.

Looking around, Tatsu would see all of the broken weapons on the racks along the wall. However, there were three that caught his eye: a polearm, an axe, and a double-bladed sword. Three weapons...one for each of them? It could be coincidence, but at the same time it could not. Tatsu was cautious of the weapons, and he didn't want to touch anything until the other two were there close by, in case some kind of trap got activated. That little edge of paranoia, as it were.

Raika looked back and spoke loud enough for his companions to hear. "The room seems to be mostly empty, except for broken weapons. There are three that seem usable, but I don't want to touch them without backup near me, just in case. There's also a door on the other end of this room, likely our next stop. Anyways, if there is no objection, and the weapons are fine, I'd like the sword. Not really my style of sword, but it is better than nothing."

As he waited for the others, Tatsu took a closer look at the sword, looking to see if there was anything out of the ordinary. He'd then look around the room, observing the walls, objects, and ceiling of the room to try and find anything that might useful or threatening.

"No problem man, I'm glad I didn't have to scream for help. I hope she wakes up or something soon. No telling what's behind the mirror."

Pulling himself out of the ground the Kedoin lay against the wall for a moment, catching his breath. Admittedly he was a bit tired with all the consecutive use of his his Earth techniques, including the Shield of Earth tech which had to be dispelled twice and used for opening just one door. The cloth idea was pretty good but Zakari didn't want to start tearing his cloak anytime soon. He could always use his hair, yeah that was a good idea, next time he would do just that. These Chuunin Exams were indeed an experience he wasn't gonna forget anytime soon. Right now he was pretty certain that they could do this, despite having no evidence for this. Only a gut feeling. No wait...he was probably peckish. Too bad he already had his sandwich, the one he had been saving for this occasion. 

Raika had walked ahead of him, his lightning petals still around for which Zakari was grateful. Thinking about it his Earth techs would cause just as more damage to the room itself then to any foe that might appear in me. The lightning petals were more efficient and controllable. Following Raika he would confirm his observations. The layout was indeed as presented, like an armory but only filled with useless or broken weapons. The three weapons that were of any use: The sword, polearm and axe were in different locations. None of these three were something that Zakari was proficient with, sadly, but that did not mean he couldn't deliver an average blow with one of them should the time come. His companion started saying something about taking the sword if it was okay but at that moment his eyes landed closer upon the axe.

The axe...oh how was it exquisitely made and the best kind he had ever seen. Of course this was all speculation, Zakari had not seen many axes in his time nor could he judge the value of their craftsmanship. But to him this axe was the most valuable weapon in the room and he was instantly urged to grab hold of it and carry it out of these Examinations with him. That would show those Examiners! They took his stuff and now he was gonna take theirs! However there was also the distinct possibility of traps. However he was not in a mood to use his Earth Armor again, he had to keep that soldier pill for a rainy occasion and he felt he might need it again.

"Dibs...on...that...axe." The Kedoin would say. "You can have the sword and I will take the axe and Seira can have the polearm because...you know! First come, first served! Those weapon will probably be trapped though. Or maybe not. Do you want to...touch them?"

Tatsu would not see anything of water, lightning, nor wind. The air was stale, it was a calm open room. Tatsu did not see anything threatening within the room. The walls were solid, the ceiling was solid. There was nothing else that made him nervous about the room. There was however nothing useful within the room.

When Tatsu scanned the sword he saw something off, there was something wrong with the hilt. With close observation Tatsu would see that the hilt was split in a weird as if it were a folding knife in some way.

(sorry again for not posting. I didn't know, My apologies. I'll keep up with the posting for now on though I promise. Anyways I didn't post for Z because he didn't really interact, nor do what Tatsu did to merit me to actually comment on what he sees or notices.)

Everything about the room seemed fine, for now. Nothing was out of the ordinary, save for the three weapons that were of any use. It seemed this room was not so much a trap as just another room. But the weapons...

The sword was designed weirdly. The hilt was split in an interesting way, and Tatsu wasn't sure whether it meant that grabbing it would be dangerous, or if it was just designed in a peculiar way, such as a folding knife. Raika let out a sigh. He could grab it and find out, but if it somehow hurt his hand he'd be in trouble for the rest of the exams. Thus, Tatsu directed his attention to his serpent companion Nera, speaking to her in snake tongue.

"Nera, this might be a lot to ask, but could you perhaps wrap your tail end around the hilt of this sword to make sure it is not a trap of some sort? It could get you hurt, and if you would rather not, I understand."

"Hm...I will do it...but if I get hurt sssomehow, I am biting you, and that'sssss that."

"Thank you." Tatsu then directed his attention to Zakari. "My snake is going to test out the sword, the hilt is a little worrisome. Perhaps it is just paranoia on my part, but one can never be too careful. If you don't find anything wrong with the axe, you could use it, but please, don't read any words you find out loud. The last time one of us did a demon got unleashed."

Nera slithered out of Raika's clothing and down his arm towards the weapon rack with the sword. Without getting off, Nera swung her tail around and then quickly wrapped it around the hilt of the sword once, enough to see whether anything would activate. If not, Nera would pull the sword off of the rack slowly, Tatsu ready to move in case anything happened. If nothing went wrong after all of this, Nera would hold the sword up for several seconds before handing it to Raika. A sword would come in handy, even if it wasn't a katana.

"Okay then. Gotcha."

Zakari would move closer to the axe, observing it from every angle before trying to pick it up. The name Franceska would be embedded into its shaft, perhaps the name of its previous owner? Or could it be the name of the axe itself? Perhaps this axe was more than met the eye, it could have some special properties to it as well. Right now he needed a weapon, any weapon at all, seeing as the Examiners had deprived him of the arsenal. But was it safe to retrieve? Would the ceiling start descending after he removed the axe from its placeholder? Perhaps it would be best to watch Raika retrieve his sword first.

This he would deem a safe tactic. The Kedoin would observe Raika's attempt at obtaining the sword he desired, from the other side of the room. Should Raika procure the item without any difficulty or activation of any traps that may be present then Zakari would follow suit and grasp Franceska. If not and some trap or other devious contraption was set off by Raika and his snake then the Kedoin would proceed in an entirely different manner suiting the circumstances. But only time would tell how this all turned out...

The snake would grab the hilt and see nothing was wrong with the hilt. It didn't move, there were no issues when grabbing it. As Nera pulled it off of the rack nothing was happening either. Handing it over to Tatsu did not make the sword do anything. Everything was fine. Tatsu would now have a sword.

[Raika Tatsu]

Raika would go through his motions with the sword, and after seeing nothing wrong with it or the action of taking it from the rack, he'd grab it. It wasn't a bad sword; it wasn't a katana, and it had no sheathe that he could find, but it would come in handy nevertheless. Still, he wondered about the split hilt. Did the sword fold on itself? Tatsu inspected it in an attempt to discern whether it had any mechanism of interest, such as whether the blade could actually fold in and out, or any thing else. Afterwards, Tatsu would direct his attention to Zakari.

"It seems the weapons are fine to grab, at least the sword was. Now we have to turn our focus to that door."

Nera would slither back into Raika's clothing, and Tatsu would walk up to the South door, inspecting it for any lock, door knob, or other normal or peculiar thing. Tatsu would then grab any one of the many broken pieces of weapons, a broken hilt for example (nothing sharp). He would use the broken piece of equipment and touch it against the door, seeing if perhaps it also was sticky like the last one. He'd hope that the examiner's would not use the same trick twice, but one could never be too careful. Still, he had to make sure. He would touch the piece against different areas, including the knob or lock--if they were there of course.

Okay then. Looked like the weapons just might not be trapped after all. Nevertheless it was time to throw caution to the wind. Zakari grabbed hold of the axe and pulled it towards him, finally acquiring a weapon! He would swing it around a little bit trying to get a feel of it. Axes weren't something he trained with, at all. Mostly it was just kunai, shuriken, exploding tags and other stuff but never axes. To use this weapon effectively he'd have to get up close and personal with it which was not his style. Maybe he could throw it if it came down to it. Once more the Kedoin felt a pang of sadness at his lack of gadgets and weapons.

Holding the axe in his right hand the Kedoin would move a few feet behind Raika as he made to investigate the door for traps, ready to dive into the earth once more should the need arise...

Raika Tatsu would tap against the door and nothing would happen. Raika Tatsu would hear and feel that the door was solid. With his impeccable observation skills he would not see any traps laying around, there was however one thing that would cross his mind, that sword, there was something definitely wrong with that sword (I forgot to give a little more explanation about it so I'm going to do that now). Looking where the handle met with the blade there was a screw threw the handle and the blade. Through the observation level of Raika he could see that it was closer to a swivel. Nothing happened with the sword when carrying it, or swinging it but that piece there would worry Raika.

The door was fine. It was just a matter of time to open it.

EDIT: Before opening the door you hear a distinctive knock from the other side. A rhythm of sorts. It was more of a pound instead of a knock.

Raika would find the screw on the sword hilt going through the handle and blade, and find it both interesting and rather worrying. Was it some sort of swivel? Did that mean the blade could actually move? It made sense considering the handle’s design. But if swinging the blade did not cause it to move, what did? Tatsu needed to test it out. Of course, he looked to make sure there was no button of any kind on the sword before proceeding, all while walking to the door.

After knocking softly on the door with the broken piece of weaponry and seeing that the door had nothing to worry about on it, Tatsu decided to push the blade up against the bottom of the door. He held the sword in his left hand, facing the ground, and then he pushed one of the blade’s edges against the door at an angle, keeping pressure down on the hilt in order to keep it from moving towards the door. It would be best to figure out now if force could cause the blade to move. It would be of very little use for slashing if that was the case, though Tatsu could still use it for certain techniques if he could keep it in the present position even while swinging the sword in the air.

However, Tatsu didn’t have long to test the sword. A rhythmic pounding came from the other side of the door, causing Raika to jump back a few meters, switching the sword to his right hand as he did so. Was that another demon? One of the other examinees? Was it friend, or foe? With these exams, it was difficult to tell. Still, Tatsu did not want to take chances.

“Someone or something is on the other side of that door, get ready Zakari. If it comes through wanting a fight, I don’t want to be caught by surprise. Let’s see if it tries to come through. If not, I’ll open the door.”

Tatsu began to perform a string of handsigns with just his left hand using one-handed seals. He focused chakra on the lightning petals that surrounded him. He went slow, seeing if anything were to open the door. He wanted to wait and be patient. The rhythmic pounding, especially after the tests Tatsu had just been performing on the door, made him think it was another person on the other side, perhaps giving a signal. But this exams were full of traps, he could not be too careful. He held off on finishing the hand signs, prepping the jutsu but wanting to first see who came out of the door first, if anyone. Besides, if someone else opened the door, he wouldn’t have to worry as much about possible booby traps. At least that was a plus.

The pounding at the door came to the attention of the Kedoin and his companion. The ax was put away for now, freeing up his hands to weave handseals in a hurry should it come to it. It was less of a knock and more of a pound. Possibly another contestant or maybe even another foe. The chances that it was a contestant though was more likely. Traps and foes were best used effectively in covert, the element of surprise in their favor. But then again who knew what exactly these sneaky Examiners were up to.

"I gotcha, I'll get ready to swarm them with birdies should it be another demon."

He would bite onto Franceska's handle with his teeth, not bothering to find a more suitable place to put it. His fingers would start weaving handseals, the earth under his feet softening and molding into a more pliable form before ten birds made of stone would pop out. Another set of handseals and another ten would be created, taking to the air. His position would be made to behind the table of broken armor, located at the center of the room. It may offer him some cover should the other be a foe. Ten birds would take to the ceiling, so that anyone who entered would not be able to spot them from their position at the door. The other ten would split into two groups of five and move to the opposite ends of the room. The Kedoin himself would bend on his knees, hiding behind the table as best as he could, so that he would be unnoticeable to the person/thing should it come inside. If it was another bloody demon intent on a fight then he would see how it liked getting divebombed and flanked by birds with beaks as sharp as kunai...

Doton: Ba-di-Kawaii no Jutsu (Earth Release: Art of the Pretty Birdies) (20 TP)

Rank: "D" Rank (Learned twice)

Skill: Ninjutsu

Effect: Creates up to five birds made out of earth that fly towards the opponent and attempt to inflict damage equivalent to kunai.

Special: "Hand Seals"

Drawback: The technique must be relearned a number of times in order to make a large amount of birdies. The technique is fairly easy to dodge.

Description: After performing the required handseals, the user is then capable of channeling chakra into the earth. For each time that the user has learned this technique, they become capable of creating up to five birds of the user's choice, made out of stone. These birds have sharpened beaks and are used to attack the opponent, moving at the same speed as the normally thrown kunai as well as dealing approximately the same amount of damage. The technique is only capable of being learned up to a maximum of ten times.

Limit: Must know Doton no Jutsu.

Raika would see tension along the sword hilt when applying pressure. Something was definitely up with the blade.

Before they could react to the knock the door was opened to their way and no one would be standing there in its way.

As I walked through the door, my shield prepared to intercept attacks from my Bear Claw's stance, I held tight to the metallic fruit bowl that was in my right hand. The two other men that were in there were prepared for a fight, as if I were about to rush in like a raving lunatic frothing at the mouth to attack them. Looking between the two as the most heavily armed with a fruit bowl in hand and hatchet at my hip, "For fucks' sake, haven't you heard shave and a haircut before?" I looked from them to the room at large and the door they had presumably come through and then went on. "Were there any other doors in the rooms you've gone through besides this one?" I had gone through the only visible doors that so that could only leave what was behind them as the path out of here.

It was at that moment that the words of George came back to me, that there was another group that had just passed a way out. It's possible he had been referring it the puppy kid and I, but I had my money on these two. Maybe something had been missed in their previous room, or maybe there was something in George's room. Gotta admit, I hadn't looked around it too much with everything going on in there.

[Raika Tatsu]

As soon as the door opened, the man that stood at the doorway caused Raika a bit of shock, and relief. Tatsu recognized the man from the room they had all been in prior to being put to sleep. He was one of the fellow examinees, and it seemed he was in a cooperating sort of mood. Tatsu calmed down and stood up straight, letting his lightning petals flow back down to the ground and away from him. He bowed slightly, in respect. He did not want to seem any more hostile than he had inevitably already come across; a fight between contestants was not only unwise if unavoidable, it was counterproductive.

“Forgive us, we’re a bit jumpy considering some of the things we’ve had to deal with. No doubt your experience here has been similar. Are you alone? There were three of us together in a room when we awoke, though our third is unconscious at the moment in the other room. You may address me as Raika, if you desire. Unfortunately, this is the first room we’ve come to outside of the room we began in. We had a demonic-looking creature to contend with, as well as a trap door, which halted our progress. Since you’re asking, I’m assuming there is nothing else beyond the door you now stand in. That’s rather unfortunate. In the room we started in, there is a mirror. Our third companion sensed a C-ranked being on the other side of the mirror, but we decided not to take our chances with it considering the creature she inadvertently summoned from some words on the wall. It looks like we might have to try figuring out that mirror afterall.”

Raika pointed his head towards the room they had begun in, then looked back at his sword. It was too bad that there was no sheathe for the blade, for it meant he’d have no choice but to carry it constantly, for now at least. He then looked back at the man in the door.

“I apologize for my long rambling, I wanted to explain the situation and bring you up to speed quickly, as it might help us save time. This room doesn't seem to hold anything of interest, besides the polearm over there and the two other weapons the two of us got. Anything of importance on your end?"

Raika then waited for the man’s response, deciding to leave Zakari’s introduction to himself, if he so chose. It was not his place to reveal information about others without their consent, after all.

"For fucks' sake, haven't you heard shave and a haircut before?"

"Is that...are you holding a fruit bowl...pfft...as a shield...? MUAHAHAHA-"

Ever since he had woken up against the pillar of the previous room the Kedoin had felt a bit out of his regular elements. The threat of danger and uncertainty of death had been looming over his head for every moment up till now. The sight of a grown man holding/using what was clearly a fruit bowl as a shield was too much for him. The hilarity of it might have been lost to Raika but Zakari did not waste a single second bending over, guffawing with laughter. He would make an attempt to stem it while Raika introduced himself and explained the situation to this new non-demon entity, definitely a participant, however it seemed that it was not destined to happen. Soon he was on his knees as his sides were split in pain and tears threatened to trickle down the corner of his eyes. After that he would start taking deep breaths and attempt to stand up once more, the novelty of the situation having passed, and the time for discussion was now.

With a trace of a smile the Kedoin would introduce himself, "The name is Zakari, good to see another contestant. Means that all these rooms are connected eh? I suppose it be best that we team up. Also if you need any healing done then I happen to be a medic, not a damn good one but still, can't always get what you want eh? I'd also like to point out that I would really not like to go back the way we just came. We have no idea how to pass through the mirror or even what we will face behind it. If there is really no other way that hasn't been explored then I suppose its alright if we attempt. But I'd rather weight until we exhaust all other options."

The Kedoin would leave out the bit about the pill in their possession though. He felt it only fair, having no idea what this guy could be capable off or what his motives were. Perhaps in due time he would inform him but certainly not before...

[Seira Kimura]

Seira had remained behind in the room with her Soul Scout, looking over what bit of it she could and heaving a sigh of relief when her companions managed to find their wat inside without any hassle. She was there when they tested the weapons out, thankfully with no problems. That would leave her with the polearm, which was fine with her. She did have a technique that could be used only with a sword, but that would require that she have a source of water to convert for her ice techniques.

She was about to return to her body when she heard the knocking as well. Glancing over at the door, relief flooded through her when it turned out to only be one of the other contestants. And that's when she would return to her body, dropping her soul scout before entering the room physically.

"I'm so sorry about my late arrival." she said softly. "I was watching from behind in case backup was needed." Who knows, if there had been some kind of explosion or other kind of trap, the two of them could have become indisposed and been unable to get out of some kind of situation. Remaining behind and watching with her scout would have allowed her to rush to their aid still intact. Fortunately there didn't seem to be any traps though.

Seira smiled at the newcomer. While she did see the hilarity of using a fruit bowl as a shield, she also found it a very resourceful thing to do given their current circumstances and lack of, well, anything. "I'm Seira." she said simply, since everyone else was introducing themselves. "The one who accidentally, uhm, summoned a demon." Oh that would be a story to tell the folks back at home. "It does appear that the exit must be in our previous room. Perhaps on the other side of the mirror there's a hide passageway, or perhaps defeating the creature will reveal a different exit." Well there had to be some reason behind it.
