Character Depth
Personality:
Adventurous. Jouki has always enjoyed traveling. His family traveled often as his parents were both guards for the Umi No Kuni Daimyo. Jouki insisted that his parents allow him to accompany them, so they taught him a few basic ninja skills at a young age and the daimyo allowed it. Even so, on the treks that the young shinobi journeyed he was never satisfied in his hunger to discover more of the world.
Ardent. When there is something that Jouki enjoys, he'll pour his heart and soul into it. He finished an entire series of Shojo Manga in a day once. You could easily say he's a fanatic. Binging is not an uncommon sight of those closes to him. In the most extreme cases, Jouki will spend days at a time on one thing, only stopping for brief periods of time to exercise and eat. Immediately after the essentials for survival are finished, he'll hole himself back up.
Independent. As much as he loved his family and his home, Jouki refused to be tied down unless he wanted to. If someone gave him an order without making it seem like it was his own decision, they could be certain that the boy would refuse. Eventually, his parents caught on to this and from that moment on spent time carefully planning how to ask their son for his help. When in training at Umi No Kune, Jouki spent most of his time refusing to do as his instructors asked. Even so, his instructor took a long while to catch on.
Observant. Throughout his childhood, even though he never awakened the Ryuugan, Jouki made a game of closing his eyes randomly and trying to recreate a situation in his head. It was a simple pleasure, yet a great one. Jouki would never admit he wanted to be a shinobi when he was growing up, but he constantly replayed situations in his head and tried to remember exactly what was going on around him without the use of his senses. Often having to stop randomly and wait for Jouki, his friends grew tired of this seemingly useless habit.
Stubborn. During his ninja training, giving up was not an option for Jouki. Often his instructor would step in during training due to his lack of agreement to participate combined which his refusal to quit. All Jouki would do is dodge his opponent or close his eyes and TRY to dodge. When learning the tree climbing technique, the curious boy would simply find a nice looking branch and hang on it until his instructor decided to let him learn at his own pace. Whether this is a strength or a weakness is yet to be determined.
Appearance:
Face. Jouki has a heart shaped face. His widow's peak is hidden by his long black hair, but it is surely there. The contours of his cheeks slim down until they reach his thin, almost pointy, chin. His skin is lightly tan, but best described as "fair toned". In times with extreme exposure to the sun, Jouki's skin tone likens to that of a lobster's exoskeleton. Though he may not seem it, Jouki can get very sensitive if his appearance is poked fun at too much.
Hair. Jouki has medium-long straight black hair. It's much longer on the sides in front of the ears and rarely changes unless blown by the wind. The front has a small "wedge" of hair that covers an area between his eyes. Found on the crown of Jouki's head is more straight black hair flowing in all directions. From the back, the hair appears to be neck length.
Eyes. A dark navy blue, Jouki's eyes often seem dead. He never seemed to show much emotion, though he knew he felt it. Even upon the death of his grandfather, Jouki's eyes never shed a tear even though his mind was in agony. These soulless eyes also had yet to discover their Ryuugan. Many in the Kazeraikou clan had began to doubt that Jouki even possessed the ability.
Physique. Tall, Thin, Malnourished. These are all words that could be used to describe Jouki. Most often, his parents doubt that he eats anything other than Ramen and Gyoza Dumplings. Though he's thin and not exactly strong, Jouki is extremely quick and agile. This may be one of his only marketable skills. He did deliver food for several of his younger years. Consequentially, Jouki became hooked on the very ramen and dumplings that he delivered. Jouki's chest is very undefined and his shoulder blades slightly protrude from his thin back.
Apparel. Jouki does not often deviate from his traditional style. He is seen wearing either black or white unbuttoned shirt, jeans, and a plethora of armbands. Jouki is never without his "utility belt" which was the only accessory he would be forced to wear. On top of providing a function, this adds a sense of differentiation to his style. Jouki's shoes are generally a pair of functional, black flat bottomed sneakers. Perhaps most important to him is the black cross necklace given to him by his grandfather. He was told that many generations ago, a Daimyo of Umi No Kuni gave it to an ancestor of Jouki's for saving their life. The necklace has been passed down in his branch of the family by the men ever since.
Background:
Family History: Jouki's parents used to live in Kaminari No Kuni serving the Daimyo as guards. Fairly soon after they started a family friend and trusted member of the court of the Daimyo becan acting strange. Brushing this off, the two continued with their duties. One morning, they awoke to polearms across their throats held by Anbu Falcons. Without thinking, Jouki's parents quickly did their best to escape. Breaking the polearms was easy, however outrunning the anbu was obviously extremely difficult. Travelling the land, while still being chased, they reached the border of Kaminari No Kuni and quickly headed for a land that they thought would be safe to get married, Umi No Kuni.
Early Life: Though he doesn't remember most of it, Jouki’s parents often speak of his infancy and time as a toddler. It was told that even though his family is specialized in weather based ninjutsu, Jouki was always fond of fire. This being odd, his parents went on and on about it during gatherings. This is how he obtained the name Jouki which refers to the japanese word for “Steam” which resembled his heritage by the sea and his affinity for fire. This was also the period in which Joukin's parents began working for the Daimyo of Umi No Kuni as there were very few shinobi in the land. The two ninja were welcomed with open arms and began work as guards.
Childhood: Early on in his childhood, Jouki began travelling with his parents. At this time, the boy learned a few basic ninja techniques just to be able to do his part. Due to this early exposure, Jouki has always been well mannered in the presence of those who command it, this may have even saved his life in the years following a time or two. As he travelled, a wooden ocarina became a past time of Jouki's's and quickly grew into a passion.
Umi No Ryu: When he turned eight and wanted to become a ninja, Jouki's parent's had trouble finding a sensei for Jouki. There didn't seem to be a ninja village nearby. After several weeks of searching, his parents finally found a shinobi known around the area for teaching the ninja art to young ones. The man was most likely in his early sixties, but he could still perform the basic skills needed by a gennin level shinobi. For weeks this shinobi trained Jouki and the kid didn't even know his name. Finally, since the old man was learned in the water style jutsu, Jouki took to calling him Umi No Sensei.
Path to Gennin: Ninja training posed another issue for Jouki as he refused to follow directions. He knew that he had the ability, yet he wouldn't perform. Mostly due to the aching pain that the ryuugan had yet to awaken. His instructor decided to ask his parents whose only idea was that they hadn't given him much of a Kazeraikou heritage due to their move. Deciding it was time, the instructor asked Jouki's parents if they could begin teaching him Draconic in hopes of inspiring him.
The teaching inspired Jouki to train and he quickly graduated at the age of ten. Strangely enough, the ryuugan awakened inside of Jouki the day he got his first mission. It was a simple one; the mission was to find a lost pet around the village. When searching, Jouki gained the ability to see farther when he strained his eyes. Thinking it was nothing, he went on with the job, however, when Jouki found and returned the lost pet, people stared at him. He quickly found some metal and looked at his reflection. The chibi ryuugan had finally awakened. His was strangely enough black. This made sense as the ryuugan's color is determined by one's feelings at the time and Jouki was depressed, ironically, about not having it awaken. This seemed to be the start of something great for Jouki and he began handling tougher missions.
