Character Depth
Personality:
Akane Wakahisa is considered by most a little crazy. She’s always pushing herself to try new things, to the point of reckless stupidity. She’ll take any dare given to her without regret. She finds people just stagnating in their own habits and hobbies to be the most despicable and disgusting of humans. While she has her own things she enjoys doing more than others, she’s always testing out others.
She is usually fairly self-confident. She’ll stand up for herself, or others, if she feels like it, but won’t take it any further than she things is interesting. She has her soft points however, like the fact that she was adopted. Doesn’t have many friends, partially because of her aggression, partially because she’s afraid of being left. Because of that, she’s had a few people that appeared to be boyfriends, but never really serious, outside of Rami Yakutsa.
She doesn’t tend to give most social norms and rules much importance in her mind. She’s stolen plenty of little things over the years, mostly random things that caught her attention. She’d be more embarrassed to be caught than guilty to be stealing. It’s her thought that if people can’t defend themselves or their things, than they don’t deserve to have them. She also doesn’t link physical interactions or space with closeness. She’ll stand as close to a close friend as she will to a stranger, which tends to make people uncomfortable.
Appearance:
Akane Wakahisa is not attractive in the conventional sense. Her hair is a nice shade of brown, but it is dry and thin, and looks almost straggly when worn down. Conversely, she always has it tied back in a braid. Recently, she’s added caltrops inside of it as a surprise for any who try and grab her by it. This hairstyle does make it seem like she has a slightly long forehead. Her eyes are wider apart than normal, but they are also large which makes this less noticeable than it would otherwise be. They are brown and speckled with spots of green and are easily her own favorite feature.
Her nose is average, neither long, nor short, nor sharp. Her bottom lip seems to be more full than the top, but in actuality this is just because when she’s nervous or bored she bites it till it bleeds or swells. Overall, her face is almost triangular in shape, though obviously less extreme. She also has several noticeable scars from various endeavors. A small dent in her eyebrow where she had run into a tree, a burn on her left hand from testing if the stove was in fact dangerously hot, a line on her shoulder from where she tried to catch a kunai for the first time, and a deep indent in her right knee from where a stick went through it when she fell out of a tall tree. As her body type at the moment is more in line than curvy from a lack of hips and breasts, not to mention muscular from her training, she doesn’t get a lot of attention from guys.
Akane has an obsession for the extreme and exciting. Her clothing doesn’t so much as echo this, insofar as it flamboyantly expresses it. She usually wears such a clashing mix of neon and bright colors that it hurts the eyes. The colors and styles are rarely the same, though always exotic when she can find it. If she finds strange and new clothing in boring colors, she’ll take them home and dye them herself. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, she knows this doesn’t work well for missions so she has a dark colored cloak that she wears closed over her outfits whenever she has to go out.
Background:
Akane was born in the Country of Fire. At least, it’s assumed she was, as she has no idea who her biological parents are. She was found one morning by her adoptive parents, Yari and Daren Tsumaki with a simple note.
“Please, take care of this little girl. Her name is Akane Wakahisa.”
Daren wasn’t sure it was the best idea, but his wife Yari argued long into the night. In the end, as they had no children of their own despite their bests efforts, Daren conceded to raise the girl. In the end, it was a choice that he did not regret, though he did bemoan it from time to time.
Because Akane was a difficult child. Not deliberately disobedient, but very difficult. Because she had an incredibly strong curiosity. She would do things that she was warned against, just to see what it is like. When she was three, she was warned to not touch the stove as it would burn her. She promptly placed her hand against the hot coils. Her mother quickly pulled her away, though the child did not cry out in pain. Instead she looked at her hand as her mother rushed her to the sink, seeming to examine the spiral burn for a moment. It was only once her mother stuck her hand under the cold water that she started fussing and crying. Another time, when she was around six, her mother said she shouldn’t stand on an edge because she might slip and fall, she jumped to see if falling was really something to be avoided. It was not a long fall, luckily, but she still managed to spring both of her ankles.
They quickly learned that she responded better to more direct rules. Do not go near the edge. Do not cross the street. Do not stick your hand in hot grease. Absolutely not.
It became somewhat easier when her little brother was born, when she was seven. While she still had a strong curiosity about dangerous things, she tempered it, not wanting him to follow her examples for some reason that was strange to her and a great relief to their parents. As much as they loved her, regardless of her tendencies, they would not want her little brother to follow in her footsteps.
School was another interesting experience for Akane and those around her. At first she was teased for her appearance. However, that quickly stopped. The first day, she got in a fight and lost handily. The second day however, she beat the boy into into a bloody pulp until a teacher stepped into stop her. She explained she was curious to see how far he would go and how far she would go. She knew now. She never did it again, but she still attracted the bullies and that type as ‘friends’. She didn’t care for them, but she didn’t chase them off either.
She was a slow learner, mostly because she spent far too much time exploring the possibilities with everything she learned. She gained a few more scars experimenting with catching kunai. She also eventually lost the stigma of beating the boy near death. His name was (blank). He was also, conversely, her first love. She grew to admire the fact that he wasn’t afraid of her, even after that. He didn’t admire her for it, but he didn’t fear her either. Slowly, through much aggressive attention on her part and cautious acceptance on hers, they became close friends. Then more than friends. Unfortunately, her curious and aggressive nature caused their relationship to end badly and they no longer speak.
It was after this that she truly dove into her training, getting permission to leave the village for a time to investigate rumors of Scythe masters. She had always been interested in the beautiful weapons, but found no one in the village that could teach her. Now that she was a Genin, she could go and find her own teacher. Following advice, lore, and rumor, she looked for a Scythe Sensei. Following what she thought was some of the more ridiculous rumor… she found one.
Gilten was his name. He taught her the basics, once she passed his tests, and she learned as much as she could. It was not much. His treatment of her grated against her instincts, and as much as she wanted to learn, she could not endure it for long, picking up the basic stance and two techniques before returning to Konohagakure. She vowed to return and learn more in the future, but would make do with what she had for now.
Arriving home, she prepares to do her duty as a Shinobi.
