Personality:
Having been alone most of his life has shaped much of Konaa's outward interaction with the world around him. He is moody and quiet most of the time, and often verbally aggressive toward those that he perceives as annoying...Which encompasses many people indeed. For the most part he prefers to be left alone and is passive, bordering on silent when this is the case. When irritated, however, a change can come over him, in which he will begin to string together long-winded insults and deadpan comments with a fervor that had previously been absent.
Casual conversation is almost impossible with Konaa. He is clearly socially awkward, but whether he compensates by being rude and obnoxious or that is simply his nature isn't too clear. Without a doubt, most interactions with the young man will involve him making some sort of sarcastic and demeaning comment, showing an utter lack of respect and manners. He truly doesn't seem interested in forming meaningful or even friendly relationships with others, at best being dismissive and short-spoken. He has no sense of tact, and is always completely blunt with his opinion no matter the situation.
While he has an impressive grasp of wordplay for his age, Konaa does not seem very outwardly intelligent – He is ignorant of many historical and geographical facts, as well as many basics of shinobi training. Nor does he seem interested in improving himself in that regard – In fact, he often admits right out that he is incompetent. That said, there is a side to him that is observational and analytical. He has a strong grasp of common sense and can often spot the absurdity of a situation...Though he will likely quip about it rather than make any effort to fix it.
Overall, Konaa is an extremely unsociable and disagreeable young man. One of his only positive traits seems to be an awareness of his own flaws – He prefers not to interact with others for a reason. In spite of his self-proclaimed uselessness, he often refuses help from others when it does get into his mind to accomplish something, preferring to handle things on his own.
Appearance:
An unremarkable and ragged looking young man, Konaa stands at five feet and four inches tall. His face is pale and rounded, none of his features being either small or large enough to warrant any sort of notice. Both his arms and legs are average length for a boy his age. Two hazel eyes stare lazily through typically half-lowered lids. A mop of matted brown hair sits on top of his head, neck-length and falling about most of his face, though the bangs are halfheartedly trimmed. For the most part, his expression is dull and blank. Though he has the decency to wash dirt off his face, he maintains a rather patchwork appearance, almost like someone's joke of a professional ninja.
Not being one to adhere too closely to dress codes that others have set, Konaa usually makes do with one outfit, not being a very fashionably conscious person either. A red t-shirt visible underneath a thin, unzipped black jacket covers his top. A matching pair of black pants, along with a plain pair of small brown boots covers his lower body. On a mission, at the very least, he buckles on his gauntlets and greaves, giving him a little bit of variable armor. Variations can occur, but for the most part he wears the same jacket even if it's been several days since he's washed it. Anything fancier is completely unheard of, as if he takes pride in a plain and simple appearance.
His ninja gear is mostly tucked into a utility belt strapped around his waist. The mark of being a full-fledged Shinobi of Konoha, the forehead protector, is wrapped around his forehead in the traditional spot. For the most part, all things about his appearance are more likely than not to have something out of place – Whether it's an untucked shirt, a loose container on his belt, or even simply a bad case of bedhead, Konaa is simply not a neat person and it always reflects in some way. This extends as far as personal fitness, as his outfit does little to hide his scrawny figure. He likely does not fit the idea of a ninja that most have in mind.
Background:
Not every ninja has a glorious origin, but it would be difficult to come from lower stock than Konaa of the Hidden Leaf. A pair of bandits, almost more petty thieves than actual brigands, were pressured into a job significantly more dangerous than their usual fare by a missing-nin – With the promise of a much higher payout for the risk involved. Alongside their fellow thieves, they set out to rob a returning Ninja of the Land of Fire carrying a rare scroll from abroad. The theft was botched, and their band sacrificed as pawns, falling in battle against the border patrol of Konoha. However, remarkably, the ninja found that the now slain couple had brought their infant son with them on the caper, the boy's cries attracting their attention.
With not much else to do for him, the little boy – whose name was etched into the side of his bundle – was brought back by the Leaf shinobi and deposited into an orphanage without further ado. No one wanted to be overly responsible for a lowly brigand's brat, and that didn't change with the years – Konaa grew up separated from others and lacking in either friendship or a guiding parent-figure. While some would remember a more bright eyed and friendly child with his name years ago, over time, the boy's demeanor grew more subdued and bitter. The nature of his lineage was known, and being an outsider did little to cement his popularity amongst the adults of the village. Over time, Konaa learned to combat disappointment and isolation with a penchant for biting sarcasm, snide comments to convince others (and perhaps himself) that he had no desire for their approval.
As could be expected, this upbringing did little to foster productive skills in the young lad. Konaa grew up lazy and apathetic, preferring to let things work out rather than put a great amount of thought into them. As such, with no other future in sight – The orphanage put him up for entrance into the Ninja Academy. There, the chunin responsible for the school's management would have found nary a worse pupil – yet he always seemed to merely scrape the bottom of the barrel rather than fall out entirely. Eventually his fourteenth birthday came to pass, and to the surprise of many the youth managed to graduate. Now a Genin, Konaa has unsurprisingly shown no change in demeanor in spite of being a full fledged ninja. Time will only tell how the realities of his position effect him.
