Character Depth
Personality:
Distant and prone to daydreams. Prefers to avoid situations that require effort, but will still take part (if a little begrudgingly). Known for being clever and carries the Nara intelligence well, but lacks the drive to use it. Shows little direct emotion, but is by no means unfeeling. Likes to hang upside from trees and other things, claiming it helps him think. Has a surprising mastery of the Shadow Imitation technique, even at his age. Finds studies boring, but seems to brighten up at the prospect of practical excercises. As such frequently dozes off in classes, or even skips them completely. He has been known to shift his headband to his arm, letting loose strands cover his face. When he does this he frequently loses the headband. If he wears it on his arm, and comes across a battle that he has a moment to prepare for, he shifts his headband to his head, almost like a personal ritual.
Has a direct loyalty to his clan, then to his village, meaning he often puts affairs of the Nara clan above affairs of the village. The only exception is when the village's troubles will impact on his clan. Shikashin also finds enjoyment being around the clan's deer, finding them calming. He claims they don't make him do anything, nor do they constantly badger him as he sees many people doing. He enjoys rain and snow, often going for walks in the rain or even just sitting out and watching the weather. When he was younger he witnessed a great thunderstorm, inspiring his interest in the Lightning Releases, a direction he hopes to pursue.
Shikashin has grown up surrounded by adults who viewed him as an adult himself, meaning he has knowledge and opinions unusual for someone his age. The flipside of this however, means he never really had the chance to be a child, and so generally finds his more childish desires difficult to cope with. He desperately awaits the day he will 'grow into' his own mind, and therein hopefully acquire the peace he lacks currently. While prone to avoiding most situations, Shikashin is a clever problem solver, but it often takes him prolonged periods to get his ideas. This partly comes from his wish to think an action through carefully before committing, but also ties into his feeling that he should never rush through anything.
Shikashin is not reckless, nor is he impatient, however his methodical approach often means a five minute task can take an hour, provided it can hold his attention for that long. It does mean that when he does complete something, it is generally better thought out and less likely to fall apart than others. In a team dynamic, Shikashin works well with most people, as clashes are quickly diffused by his lack of interest.
Appearance:
Tall and slight, his long dark hair pulled back into the Nara style. Shikashin is quite skinny, as he frequently misses meals, normally due to lapses in attention. He wears his Leaf headband just under his hairline using it to keep the hair back from his face. His high cheekbones make his face striking, or at least it would be if he expressed more emotion. He has grey eyes, a boon from his mother. Otherwise he has the sharp face of his father.
He does take some interest in his appearance, as he appears clean and largely tidy at most times. He wears long trousers that vary between green, grey and brown depending on his mood at the time of dressing, however the brown is his most common. His shirts tend toward darker colours, normally choosing a dark grey asymmetrical shirt. As such his right arm has a long sleeve, while his left arm is left exposed. This is partly down to when it comes to his travelling through the trees, he stands to the far left of whatever group he is in. This choice allows him to avoid being snagged by any obscure branches or the like. He also prefers going barefoot, but has been known to wear a slightly mismatched pair of sandals when the need arises. He doesn't wear socks as he finds them uncomfortable, often stopping and scratching at his feet until he can remove them. When on missions he always wears his shoes, but when simply wandering the village he tends to go barefoot.
His hair is slightly longer than the norm for a Nara son, so that even when tied back stray strands often hang down over his face. Due to his age, Shikashin has no significant scars, nor does he have birthmarks. He does have a number of almost insignificant scars from accidents and the like as he grew. He wears a ring which displays the Clan mark, given to him by his father when he began his training at the Academy.
When the weather is colder, or the rains come Shikashin barely changes his clothes. At most he'll change shirts, to one with both sleeves. He tends to avoid accessories, finding them to be just another thing to get in the way.
Background:
Shikashin Nara was born and raised within the Village Hidden in the Leaves, and has never truly left the village. As a child he had few friends, often being seen as 'odd' by the other children, but he cared little for their opinions. His father gave him a Clan ring on his first day at the Academy, a means to both honor the momentous occasion, and to help remind Shikashin of the backing of his clan. He would often skip class, or doze off during them, preferring to spend his time wandering, or generally wasting time. At the age of 8 he witnessed a pair of classmates arguing. He wandered over to complain about the noise they were making, when the two broke out into a proper fight. As the classes' Jonin wasn't present, the fight had little to control it. Shikashin eventually trapped his two classmates in the Shadow Imitation Technique, before forcing them to sit down. Together, the three of them waited until the Jonin arrived to find the peculiar sight.
Shikashin Nara has inherited the Nara Clan's almost trademark apathy. He finds it difficult to commit to things, or even to drudge up enough interest in a situation to show much emotion. As such when he does react, it's a sign that whatever caused the reaction is so completely out of his experience to garner the response it does. For instance, the incident when he was 8 stemmed from the disruption the argument was causing to his thinking. At the same time however, he has taken on the intelligence, but again the apathy is his worst enemy.
When he came up to take his Genin test, he passed comfortably, but didn't stand out as anything exceptional. His Chakra control was his strongest area, being able to easily replicate and use the Nara's trademark hiden techniques. He showed a particular interest in the Shadow Imitation Technique, seeming to be his preferred technique. As such his particular battle dynamic means he tends to work best as part of a team, whose abilities complement his own. This doesn't mean he cannot work alone, as he has a general aptitude at taijutsu also. His specialty definitely lies in Ninjutsu however, whereas his tai and genjutsus appear as placeholders.
