The very notion of genjutsu was the ability to control the mind and the mind of a ten year old was possibly one of the worst spots to begin with such training but Tomoko was determined, not only to become a splendid support to the village but so too to prove herself her to her lord, the Yukikage. She had determined the best use someone as weak as her would be able to fufill would be that of support and thus medicine and the mental arts would become her domain.
Sitting alone in a snowy park field of the Land of Snow, a small area on the outskirts of town where families often gathered for picnics and the like, Tomoko had decided this would be her area, the new turf where she would become mistress of the mind and medicine.
She began with the obvious, standing in the field and closing her eyes, raising two fingers as she felt her breathe filling and escaping her lungs. Inhaling for five seconds and then exhaling letting the breathe fill her chest and then once again let it relax. Her mind would need to be focused, precise and in tune with the world around her.
The way she figured, to make a decent illusion what she would need to do was to understand nature of reality - rather, how to make sense of reality when reality didn't make much sense around her and for this distinct purpose she had done something that most others wouldn't dare do.
Holding a handful of mushrooms she had been researching she had discovered the power hallucinogenic effects of these purple mad caps and for this affect Tomoko had figured this would be the best way to understand how illusion and reality worked though in a more ten year old grasp of such things.
Sliding a small mushroom in her mouth she expected to see the face of the devil himself there and then and yet nothing happened. Nothing at all. In fact all it felt like was that she ate a disgusting food. She gave a brief sigh as she did so deciding to meditate further on such things. How could she master such a fete if she didn't have context to begin with?
It was then that world began to warp ever so slightly, it wasn't overly prominent just slight things. The world seemed a little brighter, of a higher contrast, things seemed clearer. In fact it felt like the world was easier to understand in this state. She decided to take it slow, gently walking and feeling the shift in weight between each movement, sometimes feeling as light as a feather and other times as heavy as stone an experience she would note such things as she began to stroll in a circle feeling the difference between each step. Before long she even noticed her breathe, it was as if she didn't control it she would simply stop breathing and so to compensate each breathe became exaggerated and large, couple this with her near-squat like walking in a circle and the site looked as if the young girl had gone mad.
The object of this training though was not to merely have fun though, instead this is what it meant to live within a genjutsu. Sadly, she saw no 'super dragons' or the like like others would claim to have but instead she would see things if she truly concentrated. Say a tree branch melting would begin to slightly if ever so if she truly focused her vision but nothing too surreal.
She debated taking another mushroom, but the world was already as interesting as ever. The occasional water like ripple of the hand when she touched something, the brightness of the world around, all was fake and yet real. The longer she spent time in this world the longer she began to realise the true power of the mind, that it shapes our very reality and this in itself is the essence of Genjutsu and illusion.
