Back at her favorite place in the village once again. That little lake with the jutting pier that reminded her of her hometown so. She'd come here to get away from the chaos of the mansion, to just have a moment's quiet so she could hear herself think. Not that there was much to think about. For the most part life was good. Simple. She took off her boots, letting her bare feet breath and touch the crisp ground directly as she approached the pier.
Walking across its damp wooden length, her balance remained remarkably steady. To be expected, as a soldier specializing in physical force. She sat at the edge, dipping her pink-painted toes in the water and leaning back on the palms of her hands. Blue and green eyes stared up through rose-colored bangs to gaze at the cloudless blue sky. She didn't consider herself a nature-lover or anything, but it was so peaceful here. She sighed.
As a soldier of the Hidden Leaf, it was her duty to fight for peace like this. But there was a conflict within herself that she couldn't seem to come to terms with. She fought for peace, yes, but in a way felt as if she didn't deserve it. She hated peace. It made her stagnant, and restless. And yet she hated the fighting, feared the pain and loss that came with the dangerous life she lived. She wanted to become stronger so that she could end the fighting and live in peace, but peaceful lands had no place for strong fighters.
A contradiction. She leaned forward, shook her head. Deep thoughts beside deep water. Poetic, but pointless. Yet what else was there here beyond her own thoughts? The looming specter of selfish motivations masquerading as virtue, and fear pretending to be courage. She had lived well in quiet Boatham, could have continued to live well there for her entire life. Perhaps started a family. But that wasn't enough. For as much as she claimed to want to live up to her mother's legacy, as much as she claimed to want to defend those without her ability, she had just wanted the excitement.
And with the excitement came fear. Fear of failure. Of backing down, looking weak. Fear of pain and death, not just hers but of her friends as well. These contemplations made her feel a tingling sensation at the base of her spine, made it harder to breathe. It was a step away from a sudden panic attack, she realized. She'd never really fully considered what drove her before, or the consequences her decisions would have for her down the line.
Still, with a few deep breaths she was able to calm her mind and body, bringing herself back down to a state of relaxation. That was...sudden. And uncomfortable.
