'Jeez. It's getting dark' thought the female as she left the tower grounds. It was definitely fall now and she felt torn about it.
Marii was happy since the winter as well as the holidays were getting closer. But she felt a bit scared due to the darkness.

Suddenly, she noticed the light flicking in a nearby building. It appeared to be at the fourth floor.
The young woman closed her eyes as she used her soul powers on her eyes. She focused her sight on the building above. What the Raikage saw made a shiver run down her spine.

An onryo* was apparently at the top of the stairways that lead down to the fourth floor. The female noticed that there were no stairs. 'Maybe I should try out that jutsu my uncle told me about...but it won't be easy' decided the brunette.
She started to mingle her chakra together with the spiritual energy inside her. It was easier said than done since she had not done this jutsu before.

She knitted her eyebrows as her two energies mingled with one another. Her chakra had to make the wings strong enough to lift her. The young woman was small in size, but she had a solid body.
Marii then tried to spread the chakra mix along her upper back in order to create a good base for her vings. She decided to go with a simple wing design that resembled the ones her bird companion had.

Once the visuals were complete, the female started to sculpt wings out of the energy concoction. Her eyes looked at her reflection as the wings started to form. They had a pale silver glow to them like most spirits had.
The Raikage decided to let each wing be about three feet long for now. Next was a test ride to see how strong they were.

She looked at her reflection while trying to make the wings flap. Nothing happened at first and the young woman concentrated a little harder. Her body then lifted itself about a foot above the ground.
Her joy however was soon extinguished as the wings suddenly disappeared. 'Looks like I need to feed them a bit more chakra' concluded the brunette as she landed at the ground.

Onryo = vengeful ghost. Example: Kayako Saeki in "The Grudge"/"Ju-On" franchise.

Fuuton: Kaze Wangetsu no Jutsu (Wind Release: Wind Crescent Technique)

Effect: Creates a cone of pressurized air that extends from the user's hands.

Drawback: The strength of the crescent is dependent completely upon the user's rank of this technique. Has little offensive capability besides potentially knocking an opponent away from the user.
Description: A Ninjutsu technique that utilizes the Wind Release. Performing the correct handseals, the user will channel chakra throughout their arms. This chakra begins to quickly wrap itself around the user's arms, mingling with the flowing currents of air around the user. Then, extending their arms forward, the user will perform a motion similar to a swimming stroke with their arms, moving them in a crescent shape in front of him or her. This quick movement will release the built up wind in a cone form towards the targeted location. The "D" Rank technique is capable of extending forward about five meters and is capable of pushing over something that weights fifty pounds or under, as well as small projectile weapons. For each Rank of the technique that the user learns, double the distance and weight capable of being pushed. (Ex: "C" would be ten meters and one hundred pounds, "B" would be twenty meters and two hundred pounds, "A" would be forty meters and four hundred pounds, and "S" would be eighty meters and eight hundred pounds.)

Kininata had been following Marii, making sure she was safe in the darkness.He had fallen a little behind when she saw, and then himself, the Onryo. Neither of them had really seen anything quite like this creature, so when he saw it he had no choice but to spend a moment letting the fear wash over him, and could see Marii was reacting in a similar fashion.

The creature was on the fourth floor, and there was no visible access. The distance up was easily twenty meters, and he did have a couple of techniques to try and pursue it. 'You catch up when you can, I'll try to keep it nearby, distracted.'

He used the Wind Technique: Wind Jump to create a pulse of air at an angle where he would end up just over where the monstrosity had been, and land at the point where he could be on the same floor. A few simple hand seals and he lunged upwards to land just on the edge, and step forwards.

The issue was now, he was within a few meters of the Onryo, and when he went to reach any of his weapons he realised - they were all back at the Kino estate. Alright... well, there is always the Kaze Wangetsu no Jutsu. Never did get around to using it, and it may be helpful here. No better time to learn than on the job.

In the moments between seeing it and looking around, he saw a few light objects, maybe ten or fifteen pounds in weight, that would be within his reach. He knew that the technique was a more defensive and offensive one, but those objects could help buy the time he needed to handle this.

He moved over to the first object, a metal bucket, and focused chakra into his hand. He extended his hand into a blade-like shape, and tried to mold the chakra into a similar shape. The chakra would then extend up his arm, with the intent of acting something like a scoop or net - he then went to move and swing the arm in a long sweeping motion; as he swung, what should have happened was that the chakra would gather wind and release it, and it should have caught the bucket to throw both it and the momentum at the Onryo. What actually happened was that it knocked over the bucket and sent a breeze at the creature.

He had done alot of chakra shaping techniques - he had in fact made a couple himself years ago for his Rainfall style. His wind technique, however, was very rusty. He had barely worked with wind over the years and in truth, his lack of experience with it was going to be the main issue here.

He continued the sweeping motion, however, focusing the chakra quickly into his other arm. He repeated the process, but tried to focus where the energy and power would be at the end of the arm, rather than even it out - in essence, like the blade of a sword cut. This time when he released the wind it lifted the bucket off the ground and it did hit the Onryo. It was now looking straight at him. 'I hope this was a good idea.' he murmured under his breath.

Effect: Releasing a jet of air from the users legs allows her/him to reach greater heights (Twenty Plus Meters, Depending on Training)

Drawback: The user had best mark their target well for a missed landing could result in a nasty fall. Also, if intending to increase the power of an attack, the user best hope they aren’t thrown off balance or miss their target (which would inevitably throw them off balance as well as they try come to a stop) as they could end up being seriously hurt.
Description: Allows the user to reach greater heights by combining chakra and the wind element; releasing the combo via the lower legs just before the user launches into the air. It’s difficult to perform as it requires precise timing along with an understanding of how to mix chakra with an element. The user can jump to a max of twenty meters at C rank level with an added five meters per C rank training. The user can also attempt to use it to rush in for an attack but it's ill-advised due to the drawbacks stated above.

She noticed that the male was on his way up the building. 'Right - time for take two. I need to focus the strength of my chakra first.
My body is not made out of the same material as my body after all' recalled the female. She exhaled some air while the chakra inside her started to move.

Marii gathered a bit more chakra for this attempt in order to provide her wings with strength. Part two was the blending process where the spirit energy would be thrown in the mix. The young woman had to focus a bit more since those two had to be balanced out.
'There we go...focus...' thought the Raikage as she felt the two energies in her body fuse. It was time to create the wings that would lift her.

Step number one was to spread the energy around her upper back. The female tried to visualize the area since she could not physically see it. She concentrated the energy around the center since the wings would unfold there.
Now came the part that the brunette enjoyed more. It was time to create the design for her spirit wings.

'I think I'll go for a simple angel or bird design. It works for them, so it should work for me' thought the young woman a her wings started to take shape. She kept an eye on the ghost as her wings started to unfold.
It looked like it was not too far away from Kininata. 'Time to send you back from where you came from' thought Marii.

She bit her lips while she tried to flap her pale silver wings. Her eyes widened when her body lifted up from the ground. 'I'M FLYING!!!' screamed her inner with joy as her feet left the concrete.
The female managed to flap her way gradually to the floor. She focused a medium amount of chakra for her searing soul while aiming at the ghost.

The Raikage then landed at the nearby windowsill before shooting the ghost. It dissolved immediately after her jutsu made contact. "Are you all right Kininata?" asked the young woman in genuine concern.
Onryos were not the easiest spirit to remove. Especially not at this time of the year...

The bucket did hit, but it also went right through it. There was an inner sigh from Kininata, and then a the brief realization that he'd managed to get the jutsu right. It also dawned that this thing was going to get closer because bucket don't hurt ghosts. Chakra, though, might do the job. In theory the Kaze Wangetsu may help slow the thing down while he's waiting for Marii to back him up.

Kininata ducked under a sweeping, haunting arm from the Onryo - which was thankfully slower than attacks he had trained against - and focused chakra in both of his arms. He kicked backwards, leaving himself a couple of feet from the wall and about six meters from the ghostly creature. He put one step forwards and swept from left to right, using the chakra to gather the energy and release it at the creature. It was just outside of reach though - he felt the release, saw the air ripple from the jutsu, but when it reached the Onryo it was barely touched. He continued the sweeping motion through his other arm and send the second wave out. This one connected, though it was only three meters from him now and the Chakra did push it back... by a meter or so. The chakra was catching it, but the wind was just passing through.

'Fighting ghosts... really not my forte. Why couldn't it be zombies or ghouls or something more physical.' He complained as he drew more chakra into his arms. He repeated the exercise, but once again thinned the chakra to create a denser mass towards the end - increasing the density would create a larger store of energy for release, both increasing the range and intensity of the attack.

He reversed the sweeping movements from right to left. The first release seemed to have a more meaningful impact, pushing the Onryo back to just over five meters from him. The second sweep came out with more intensity and power, and when it hit the Onryo it was visibly more effective, pushing it back a few more meters. He was starting to get the hang of this technique now, and let a grin sneak onto his face.

Then the Onryo let out what felt to be a low pitched, but eerie grunt, almost a growl, and it lunged towards Kininata. He stepped back and barely avoided a much more violent and faster attack, and just as it started the next strike it was suddenly hit hard from the side and it dissolved immediately "Are you all right Kininata?" He heard from Marii. Kininata glanced over and waved at the flying Raikage. 'At least it wasn't zombie alligators. I need to work on my ghost fighting skills... and that's something I never expected to say in my life.'
