Art Appreciation (Traps)
Rank: "E"
Skill: Skill
Effect: One who fully appreciates or understands a given thing.
Special: ---
Drawback: ---
Description: Characters with this ability are well versed in the general history of a work. A character with this skill will specialize in one particular sub type (style, artist, genre or period of the subtype) having more extensive knowledge about their specialization. A character with this skill can estimate the worth of other works, but without a great deal of certainty or accuracy. They can generally tell who painted, created, wrote it and what style and time period it was created. For other types of Art Appreciation, such as Locks, Traps, Weapons, Etc. the user is able to identify the type of object by name. They may even be able to identify if a company was able to make them. For Traps or Locks if the user is able to identify that item, the user may gain a +10 Synergy to Disable Device and Open Lock under the Game Master's digression. A successful check will allow a character to spot a forgery. Look in Academia Skills thread found in the Skills and Traits Index for more information. Each time learned user gets 5 die roll to increase the skill.

One of the first lessons that Yoko was to cover throughout her tutorage under the esteemed professor was the usage of mathematics in trap making. In fact, many traps revolved around mathematical formulas and methods. How much force was required to keep a large cube of rock from sliding down an incline? How could energy be conserved and used to activate an arrow trap? All of these questions can be solved through the application of a mathematical model.
And while she possessed a fairly high level of knowledge surrounding the topic, it quickly became apparent to her that the knowledge she held only related to Real numbers. Well, what are real numbers you might ask? Well as her professor soon explained real numbers were only part of the two-dimensional number field. With real numbers were composed of many different types of numbers some of which extended beyond our limited understanding of numbers.
Of course in school, Yoko had been taught the basics about integers, and by extension the whole and natural numbers that made these up. These are numbers that feature on the old fashion number line negative four, five, six etc. with these we are able to derive rather basic mathematical codes and formulas and integrate them to form advanced codes or puzzles.
