Techcraft Rank: "E" Skill: Skill Effect: Use this skill to recognize how a device works or even what a device does. Special: --- Drawback: --- Description: Use this skill to recognize how a device works or even what a device does. For example, a user enters a building and discovers a strange-looking device in the center. With a successful Techcraft check, they can discover what the device does. With another successful check, they may determine that it has a sensor on the front and is therefore most likely controlled by a remote similar to a tracker. Anything the characters might have seen before does not require a check to identify. However, that still leaves a ton of gadgets left for the technician to figure out. A check is made when the device is strange, industrial, or specialized, or when the character has only a brief moment to examine it. All checks are Difficult, or Very Difficult. Each time learned user gets 5 die roll to increase the skill. Limit: ---

The technologies of the modern world were moving forward, gone were the days of kunai being cutting edge technology, hell even folded steel was relatively common. The big changes of late were coming from advancements in mechanical devices, clockwork in nature they strange gadgets were able to do remarkable things. Given her interest in the stealth arts, Yoko thought it only diligent to research the various forms of detection.
Devices designed for the purpose of finding intruders or monitoring areas, they were the modern-day alternative to scrying on an area. They varied from cameras on walls linked via a cable, these devices streamed live information this could be recorded onto a tape of sorts to be reviewed at a later date, as was the custom in a store for example. In these cases, the information would probably only be monitored in case of an occurrence.

0/5 0/125 Alternatively, the cameras could be linked to a live stream, if this was the case someone would be observing the footage. Thus, the camera's range of vision should be avoided if at all possible. This meant diligent studying regarding the capabilities of the sensory device, was its field of vision limited to a particular degree of vision? Could it rotate, or was it fixed in position? If it was anything like her scope, the vision could be augmented by night vision and the like.
Other devices monitored the heat signature in a room. These were extremely difficult to bypass and relatively uncommon. Vibration sensors were quite common, however, they could often be fooled by mundane vibrations. They were triggered when vibrations exceeded a certain level or acted in a linear fashion depending on the device used. This lead to many people using an augmentation that caused the body to rapidly oscillate, the result: impossible to track by an advanced sensor.

The reload timer for every weapon was different, knew this only too well. Upon her initial training with her pack, she had been able to rest out a variety of weapons, each with its own unique feel, weight, and reload speed. One was able to fire four rounds in rapid succession before it required reloading, another was capable of spraying ammunition, three bolts per activation. However, it required reloading every other shot.
Deciding which weapon was best for oneself was a key step towards becoming a successful marksman. Yoko had decided upon the rifle crossbow, but it was not love at first sight. No, it was not even close. She originally had her mind open to all manner of weapons, even throwing knives, but upon settling on the marksman way of life she was able to narrow it down to bows or crossbows.
Bows were relatively simple, there was the recurve bow, capable of being used with a mount with great accuracy. And the long bow, which although it could shoot further could not be utilised while mounted as the weapon was often as large as its wielder. Both had the advantage in terms of reload speed, one could simply draw an arrow from a quiver and fire it. The crossbows, on the other hand, did not have this luxury, instead, they had a large reload timer.
The crossbow rifle offered the largest range of the pack, its range equalled that of the longbow but did so with more of a punch. It combined the force of the recurve with the range of the longbow, the downside, however, was in the reload speed, several seconds had to be spent after every round fired. The time that reduced one's combat effectiveness, if Yoko wanted to be able to utilise the weapon effectively in combat for more than just long range sniping then she needed to reduce this time as much as possible.
Intense drilling was in order, upon starting ones training the process was slow, the bolt channel had to be cleaned before usage to remove any debris that could have potentially entered the rifle portion of the weapon. This was achieved through the use of a medium sized metal rod, that one would pump up and down, called the worm. Initial use of this piece of equipment was slow, and haphazard at best when under intense pressure.
Due to the length of the piece of equipment successfully getting it into the rifle and making the correct movement was time-consuming. Of course, the ammunition, in this case, a bolt also needed to be fed into the weapon and depending on its reload capability, this would also consume a huge amount of time. It would have been quite a remarkable feat for a bolt action weapon to outpace one that held a magazine for example.
The youth had practised this procedure hundreds if not thousands of times, under varying degrees of pressure. One time she had even instructed a member of her clan to fire at her, so that she was under real combat conditions the intense rush of adrenaline made the task not just difficult but next to impossible. It took what felt like an eternity to load and fire the weapon, against a fast-moving opponent such as a cavalry, or a member of her pack riding a canine, she would have little time to reload and probably be cut to ribbons.
Another important factor to consider was the fact that you were distracted by the reloading process, all the while you were looking at your weapon you were not observing the enemy this potentially mean that they could advance or throw a weapon at you catching you off guard. It also meant that you had less time to track them, potentially reducing your range. For reasons that should have been apparent this was not a good situation to be in, so Yoko’s continued training was in her best interest. By doing so she had reduced her actions down to a few seconds.
Lofted Stride Rank: "D" Skill: NinJutsu Effect: User gains the ability to walk on water and do it silently. Special: --- Drawback: --- Description: User's soul grabs hold of their body and holds it just off of the ground making their movements much more quiet. The target of this Jutsu is personal. Duration is 5 hours per Class Level. By performing this Jutsu the user gains the effects of walking on any liquid as if it were firm ground. Mud, oil, snow, quicksand, running water, and even lava can be traversed easily, since the subjects’ feet hover an inch or two above the surface. (Creatures crossing molten lava still take damage from the heat because they are near it.) The subjects can walk, run, charge, or otherwise move across the surface as if it were normal ground. Does not leave footprints. User also gains a +10 per Class Level to Stealth due to the silent running. Limit: Must be a Soulcaster.

‘Let go your earthly tether. Enter the void. Empty and become wind.’
Weightlessness. The ability to float in mid-air, in a non-magical setting the very concept of this technique seemed whimsical, if not totally implausible. However, with careful manipulation of one’s own internal energy this ability was not only possible, it was considered quite mundane. If Yoko was going to walk the path of a soul bender, it was one of many techniques that she needed to master.
Of course, this was a commitment she did not take lightly, freeing oneself, from earthly desires was a tall order, even for a disciplined shinobi. It meant letting go of one’s family, accepting the inevitability of death. Fortunately, Yoko had already died, she had seen the void from which we all came from, and more importantly, she did not fear it. What did worry her, however, was the fact that the people who manipulated their soul had a fixed alignment, the world was no longer grey for them, it was simply black and white.
Actions simply went with their alignment or against it. Everything was ridged, and try as you might, bending your own soul required that you play by the rules, stepping away from this alignment could have some rather disastrous consequences after all. All the same, the youth decided that the technique was worth the risk. She sat legs crossed in lotus meditation position, simply taking in her surroundings through her refined senses.
The sound of water flowing, the wings of an insect. There was so much to experience if one simply took a moment to experience it. The feeling of weightlessness started to build, within her, a small breeze blew her hair, and yet she still refused to open her eyes. It was only when she felt the distinct lack of pressure under her legs that she looked around. She had left contact with the floor and was floating some four inches from it. Remarkable.
Greater Rapid Shot Rank: "C" Skill: TaiJutsu/Supplementary Effect: User is able to shoot an arrow once more within a movement for only 3 movements. Special: --- Drawback: Only works within 1st Range Increment. Description: With the Improved Rapid Shot technique the user may shoot 1 extra arrow for 3 of their movements per round. This allows the user to shoot 2 arrows within 3 of their movements. If user has Quick Aim this technique works with Far Shot. Limit: Must be a Marksman. Must know Improved Rapid Shot.
00/20 +2 'C class'
Having practised the very fundamentals of reloading her weapon, Yoko’s speed now exceeded that of a novice, your average run of the mill gunman. However, if she was going to be efficient on the battlefield then, she needed to decrease this time further still, in doing so she could improve her economy of actions are shoot more rounds per window of time. Of course, there were two distinctive approaches in which one could opt for when it came to improving the time in which any task is performed: efficiency or speed.
Speed was rather simple, Yoko could pump the worm at a faster pace, or feed the ammunition faster, both of which would decrease the reload time. With efficiency referring to the precision by which a task is carried out, by removing errors from the process you could again reduce the time it takes, this mainly came from reputation and climatizing oneself to the environment particularly when faced with a stressful one.
Of course, to master this technique the youth needed to do both, this would in effect optimise her time: she needed to be quick yet not rush, doing so would only lead to error. Lifting the heavy crossbow to her shoulder the youth began to launch off bolt after bolt, reloading as best she could. Again and again, the bolts struck true upon her target, inflicting what would have been heavy damage on an opponent.
Upon a minute passing she walked over to the target to inspect it, and while the accuracy impressed her it was not her primary concern, she was, in fact, observing the number of bolts lodged into the target. She knew that within a span of a minute she was able to make eighty attacks with a katana, eighty singular strikes with the potential to kill. But how many bolts could she fire? Turns out it was notably less, twenty-seven in fact.

Pondering what this meant the youth was quick to discover a meaning, she currently followed a three beat, that was to say she could fire on one, and spend twice as long reloading. So her effective rate of fire was a third of what it should be. If all went as planned this number should increase to eighty shots, but getting herself down to a two-beat seemed like a challenge as it was.

The ability to sense the weather had always seemed rather odd to Yoko. It was the name more than anything, surely one did not sense the weather as so much that they picked up on small factors that predicted the up and coming changes? Either way, it was a key skill for a sniper in Yoko’s opinion at least. There is a heavy side wind, taking a shot at the moment seemed like a bad idea, but what should Yoko do?
7 Apr 20, 08:57 Loki QB: and loli's are main characters #17a589
Well with the ability to sense the up and coming changes in the weather, Yoko would be able to make her decision by way of informed ‘guess’. If the factors indicated that the weather would take a turn for a worst, then you guessed it: it was time to take the shot or withdraw. But if the wind would pass shortly then surely it was better to hold out, providing that you were afforded the opportunity to do so.

The skill also had several applications in the shinobi world, element users frequently manipulated things such as water to cause a downpour or lightning to forge massive storm clouds. Being able to identify unnatural weather phenomenon, was in light of this an extremely important skill, one could even go so far as to say it was crucial. Being caught within a natural disaster was one thing, but a tornado created with chakra? Well, good luck.

A skilled adventurer knew that this ability was as much about research as it was observation: before heading into a region you would look into the natural events and how they unfolded. If an area had no record of storms, and one appeared, well probably ninjutsu! That was the joy of research, you were able to better judge your environment with it, a jungle was more prone to downfalls than a desert for example. But of course, you didn’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure some of this stuff out.
