The thought of him going to such lengths just to keep his own restraining at bay, to keep people from knowing that he had gone about breaking the rules in order to help someone, only to keep the actual information to himself once the moment came for him to share it, that was what truly frightened him. This was why he had dreams of being left alone in his bed, paralyzed and incapable of even lifting a finger as a black shade stood next to his bed, staring down and judging him while there was nothing he could do about it. It was only shortly after these dreams kept coming back that he realized their metaphorical value, which was going to be a lot harder for some to grasp when they might not understand the reason as to why they'd have trouble sleeping in the first place.
For Hamura, figuring out the reason had not been much of a stretch, making it only a short leap before he came to the conclusion that his dreams were metaphorical in nature, a way for his brain to make it clear to the rest of his being that he could not go on hiding the truth for his own gain. His sleep paralysis was a metaphor for how he was currently standing still, halted in his progress because he was afraid people might figure out what he had done, halted because he was willing to go to such lengths just to keep himself from being thrown into a prison cell. That, and the black figure appearing next to his bed was never a real shade or undead entity to begin with, it was merely a figment of his own imagination, a faceless figure standing over his bed and looking down on him, judging him.
Once this realization hit him, it was no longer a black shade standing next to his bed, but an image of himself that just stood there judging him. It felt strange, even for a dream, to stare into his own eyes and see only disgust. In the nights following up, he was no longer visited by just his own visage, but also by the shapes of Hyousuke and Kaiya, the two Shinobi that had their bodies snatched by the morgue murderer. This was exactly why he had started to meditate on the matter, as it had always helped him when he needed to put things into perspective in order to properly work them out and be all the better for it. Even though it was quite hard to tell at this point, it was actually starting to work, even if only slightly.
As he pondered on the matter, letting everything he knew in regards to the situation flow through his mind freely in an attempt at figuring out a way to make everything alright again, it suddenly came to him. There was no avoiding the fact that Hamura had done something he shouldn't have been all that proud of, seeing as the initial intention had been to keep him from comprising himself and the information he had. But the more he thought about it, the more it seemed like this had been a good thing altogether. Since the chances of this corruption running deep was quite a fair possibility, it made sense that he had kept this information from the assigned task force. As far as he knew, it made sense that this group had been sent down there just to clean up the mess and make things go away, which included making Hamura go away if he knew things he wasn't supposed to.
