The days had not been easy for the young Shinobi. Even after passing from the Academy at a faster rate than was normally the case, there was something that bothered him still. This was the fact that he had been barred from joining a Genin team by his grandfather. Though he understood it at the time, the situation had changed quite a bit from that time. The first and foremost reason of this change was simple: his grandfather had passed away a week ago. For the first three days, he had been too sad to leave the house and be productive in any way. That said, this much was to be expected from someone his age. What made it all the more painful was that he had no recollection of his father, and as such had made his grandfather into a father figure. Losing that was rough, because he now had no one left in the village that he knew or could trust.
Though he did not really feel like he belonged in the village anymore after his grandfather passed away, there were still some things keeping him there. The fact that the village hospital had kept him alive long enough to get back on his feet was but one reason. While important, it was because they had arranged for everything regarding his grandfather's funeral that he felt like he owed the place. As such, he did not feel like sitting around any longer than he had already done in the past days. Before his grandfather had fallen ill, he had promised to teach him more about his second elemental nature, Earth release. Ever since they practiced together, Fire had been the one element that had always felt like it came natural to him. Iwamori, his grandfather, had explained that it was only natural, as it was his primary nature.
Having never heard anything about primary or secondary natures, he had been told that most Shinobi possessed at least one elemental nature. This was considered their primary element. Some people possessed more than just one elemental nature, as there were those that possessed two of the five elemental natures and had a way of combining them into what he called an "Advanced Elemental Nature". It had made the young Shinobi wonder if he had something like that inside of him too, though he figured that there was no way of finding out about such things. That was when his grandfather had surprised him with paper grown from chakra-fed trees. Apparently, touching them and flowing a bit of chakra into it would allow someone to tell which chakra nature they possessed.
Touching it the first time, the paper had caught on fire and turned to ash. While Hamura had already shrugged it off and stated that he was one of the people possessing but a single elemental nature, Iwamori had seen something before the paper crumbled. Telling him to try again, but focus on something other than what came natural, he held the paper in his hand. Having no idea what to do, he tried to calm his mind and just slowly flow his chakra into the paper. This time, the paper did not catch fire, though it still turned to dirt and crumbled away. While it seemed somewhat familiar, the way in which he had channelled his chakra this time felt different. It felt heavier and colder, where channelling his fire chakra felt warmer and somewhat angrier. Turning to his grandfather for clarification, it turned out that his other elemental nature was in fact Earth.
With the old man gone, the two had never really gotten the chance to dig into what it meant to possess more than one elemental affinity. More so, he had been left with no way of figuring out how to tap into it again, let alone use it. Refusing to just go at it without having any idea where to start, the obvious first step was getting information. Requiring a good amount of info before he could even make an attempt, he had to go to the place that stored large amounts of it. As a former student at the Academy, he had spent a lot of time around the place, seeing as he had already finished most of the classes he had to attend. Because of the time he had spent there, he knew most of the shortcuts around town, meaning he wouldn't have to interact with anyone socially. It was something he simply was not ready for, and was just not looking forward to at all. Arriving a few minutes after leaving what was now his house, he gave himself a mental pat on the back for avoiding his fellow villagers.
