Taking a lot less time to get back to his starting point in the middle of the forest now that he could actually move at top speed, he picked a different direction to head into. This time, he moved in the direction in which the moss was Not growing on the side of the tree. In a strange way, this at the very least let him know that he was not headed into the same direction, and had an additional guidance tool to take him into what felt like a straight, or at the very least straighter path. Continuing to move along this direction while leaving marks on the trees at the exact same pace, it seemed that this was actually the right direction, though that only became apparent by the time he had moved for almost thirty minutes straight. Being able to see large gaps in the treeline, he figured that he had gotten to the place where he had been training, or at least got close.
High-tailing it back to the Hidden Cloud before it got dark, he dove into the library in order to find literally every bit of written knowledge he could get his hands on. One of the first books he took out was one that was entirely about natural navigating, and interestingly enough mentioned the moss growing on trees. Stating that all of these needed to be used in combination with one another to get ones bearings, it was said that snow melted faster on south faces slopes, that vegetation grew better on south facing slopes in northern climates and that it grew on the north side in hot and dry climates. This was already a lot of information he didn't know anything about at first, but was going to be very useful if he ever ended up in the land of snow or the land of wind. Doing his best to store this information for the next time he found himself in unknown territory, either by accident or by choice, he continued reading.
The next part was about how things such as moss and certain lichens grew better on the north side of trees, which was something he had actually picked up on by accident when trying to navigate his way throughout the forest earlier. This directional thing seemed to also have a certain impact on animals as insects such as ants built their homes on the south side of trees, depending on the prevailing winds and the proximity to water, seeing as cold winds often came in from the north. With this added bit of knowledge, he could now honestly say that he could even rely on the wildlife in order to help him navigate, as long as he managed to find any anthills in the area he was currently walking around. While he was truly only skimming through the book to find the interesting parts for now, it was already paying off quite a bit.
