Janice Knight fell and hovered a meter off the ground, ten meters away from the den where nine of her remaining mud clones guarded. Inside it was something that had dispatched one of the mud clones completely after a quick hiss. That certainly sounded like a monster she was meant to hunt.
It was time to test out what she had recently added to the collection.
Janice reached out her arms and allowed three bundles of flesh to form and fall out from her body. The bits of flesh—dark and glowing with cursed energy—began to grow and mutate into a larger forming. They increased in size until they reached a medium size, and its surface became covered in hair. A pair of long, sharp horns extended from each of the newly created bodies.
Four Yakitani, aglow with cursed power, had been born of Janice. Their cursed bodies carried a fair set of powers she had allowed them to borrow. They were each extremely durable, and Janice had given them just enough of her power to have semi intelligence and a small semblance of her skills.
By the telepathic link she had with the four Yakitani, she commanded them to march towards the den.
One of the powers the Yaks had been granted was Janice’s thermal vision—their glowing red eyes carried that power for the goal of location the creature in the den.
Kill the thing inside, or, failing that, get yourselves eaten, she mentally commanded.
In a quick sequence, the four Yaks shifted black biomass to augment their legs. They were granted Janice’s leaping power as well. It was enough to jump horizontally by over a hundred and thirty meters, though they wouldn’t need nearly that much to reach the creature in the den.
The Yakitani charged in one after another in a single second. They watched for the thermal signature of their quarry with a single goal in mind: kill or be eaten. As the first one jumped in to locate the creature and show its location by the telepathic link, the other three jumped directly at the creature at full force.
Monitoring the link, Janice Knight flew up and over to the den, hovering a meter above the top of it. Once the creatures made contact, and she knew the location of the beat via her telepathic link, she would freeze the outer layer of the den with a coat of crystal. She’d also freeze a layer of the underground inside the den. Just in case the creature had a means to escape underground, she wanted to cut it off.
The only entrance Janice left was the one in the front. Everything else would be blocked off by her crystal.
Her four Yakitani spent all their time using gore attacks with their horns and bite attacks with their teeth. They would do as much damage as they could to whatever was inside the den. However, if that same creature attempted to eat them, they wouldn’t resist.
As the Yaks fought, and after creating a crystal fort, Janice used blight siphon two times. Along with inflicting moderate damage to everything within ten meters, two uses would be enough to cover up the power loss she sustained to create the four Yakitani. She aimed to drain the creature inside, and wasn’t too worries about draining the Yaks. They weren’t meant to last.
If the creature managed to overcome the resilient yaks, there would be consequences. Once a Yakitani sustained enough wounds and died, they would explode with the force of a B rank attack. The moment one Yak died, instead of allowing the creature to catch on and back away, Janice had her three remaining Yaks jump right into the creature and dismiss—causing three more explosions in this way.
Ideally, though, once the Yaks attacked as many times as the creature allowed, Janice wanted them to be eaten. That way, she would have between one and four internal explosions to damage the creature from the inside.
That plan relied on the creature being big enough to actually swallow her Yaks, so she had to rely on luck for her primary plan. The fight-to-death plan was the more reliable.
Once all four Yakitani has perished for one plan or another, another mud clone entered the den. If she found the creature defeated by the Yak’s various attacks and explosions, the other eight mud clones would enter to drag the creature’s carcass out of the den.
