The subject is sickened for the duration of the Jutsu and must make an additional save or be nauseated. This save though must be repeated each round.

    There were various ways to apply phantasms and Inoryu understood that it was possible to execute a phantasm through mischievous and divine energy, such as the bewildering visions jutsu. Inoryu remembered meditating and tapping into the mischievous divine energy that the book referred to. Since that time, he understood the parameters of the jutsu and was merely waiting for the opportunity to practice it. And since he increased his skill which chakra constructs, he was now able to produce shadow clones to train with. He made the shadow clone hand seal and two shadow clones appeared in short bursts of smoke imbued with stronger chakra so they each had a stronger constitution than the average shadow clone. 

    Inoryu weaved fluidly through four hand seals. He paused a moment as he tapped into the mischievous divine chakra source. He had done it several times a couple of years ago but now he was out of practice. He focused on his surroundings, and peered deeper than what classical reality had to offer. He looked within himself and almost conjured the necessary chakra within. He steadily became more aware of the mischievous and divine chakra and channeled it to the shadow clone on the left. 

    The bewildering vision jutsu was successful after the first attempt. The shadow clone had lost his sense of equilibrium and the visions were causing a sickening sensation. He couldn't focus on the world around him so he tried to remain as still as possible. The jutsu had not only sickened him, but went a step further and effected nausea. Such was the purpose of the jutsu, and Inoryu was finally able to see it in person. The shadow clone would hunch over in misery and make the ram hand seal in an attempt of genjutsu kai. Inoryu observed his shadow clone as he was able to shake off the bewildering visions and return to his senses. He looked slightly alarmed, but understood that it was genjutsu training and was determined to continue.

    The chuunin Yamanaka was finally feeling warmed up. He had already executed various low level jutsu of the phantasm perception and finally felt it was time to let the real training begin. He focused on his breath and shifted his awareness inward. He observed his body inhaling and exhaling. He became more calm and opened his awareness to the universe to become one with a higher consciousness. 

    The shadow clone on the left drew out a bo shuriken and practiced tossing it in the air and catching it as he waited to proceed. The shadow clone on the right seemed to follow Inoryu's example and meditate as well. Despite having his eyes closed, Inoryu was aware of their movements. His focus went further than his inner world and into his surroundings. His taijutsu training allowed him to pay more attention to all of his senses and he was able to visualize the shadow clone's movements through sound and changes in air pressure. 

    Inoryu allowed the lower alpha waves set in. This was the state of mind he wanted to be in to learn advanced phantasm perceptions. While in this state, he would receive critical benefits for this particular training such as a heightened awareness of chakra and his surroundings, a higher capacity of learning, a tranquility of emotions, and an increased capacity for genjutsu overall. His body exhaled and he could feel a satisfying vibration over his being that allowed him to relax further. He opened his eyes and for a moment it was as if he understood the very nature of existence.

    Inoryu remembered what he had read long ago; "Phantasms can affect the target's condition even if they disbelieved the genjutsu. It takes skill to learn such high level genjutsu, but such phantasms have become staple genjutsu of every mind reaver. These jutsu take more chakra to perform and the difficulty is much higher, however, one can be sure their target would always feel the affects." Inoryu continued the memory to recall what he had read, "Understand the theory and understand the genjutsu. Manifest an illusory pit beneath the target with the tactile sensation of falling. Seeing the illusory pit while standing over it and feeling as though the target is falling triggers the belief in the subconscious. Some argue that this trigger is a fear effect, others believe it is a suggestion. Some believe that the mind had already begun to believe that it was falling despite what the other senses say. Whatever it may be, a high level of skill from the practitioner is what makes the genjutsu so potent."  

    "To understand the genjutsu, one must first understand visual and tactile hallucinations. These phantasms must be so convincing that even if the target were to disbelieve the genjutsu, the physiological reaction is still triggered. To produce the subconscious reaction, one must have the skill necessary to make the target believe that they are falling through phantasmal tactile sensation and visual stimuli. However, the result of a target disbelieving the genjutsu must never be the fault of the user. The target must always disbelieve by their own volition."

    Inoryu thought back to using the phantasmal tripwire on his jogging shadow clone. The visual hallucination was vivid, realistic and it was coupled by a tactile hallucination that was a jerking sensation where his ankle crossed the phantom tripwire. The first attempt wasn't enough to cause his shadow clone to fall, but minutes later he tried again. The visual and tactile hallucination triggered the target's subconscious to believe that he had been tripped and the result was the shadow clone falling completely down.

    Inoryu had memorized the hand seals of this advanced genjutsu over the course of a week. Memorizing the hand seals of higher phantasms had allowed him to intuit the hand seals of lower tier genjutsu in the phantasm perception. He recalled the hand seals again now and practiced until it was perfect. He had considerable skill with hand seals, and he was able to configure the hand seals component so that they were reduced by a third. The 24 necessary components were reduced to a mere eight, and Inoryu was capable of weaving them with incredible precision. 

    Now that the hand seal component was completed, the phantasm would begin to take effect. The power of this particular genjutsu was incredible as he determined the range and distance potentials. The genjutsu would have an area of effect 60 meters cubed and he was able to target anywhere within the distance of 75 meters. Because it was a mind-affecting technique, he was able to determine which minds were affected within the jutsu's range. Of course that would mean he would always exempt himself from the mind affect. 

    It was now the time to practice orchestrating the genjutsu. There would be several things happening at once and it would take all of his concentration. Both parts of the genjutsu needed to work in unison, so there was no point in practicing them one at a time. He would begin by producing the dual phantasms of the genjutsu together. He was resolved to master this technique and his resolve was symbolized by the chakra he poured into it.

    The two shadow clones, clad in red hoodies, dark grey pants, and a butt bag of ninja tools, would feel as if gravity had been reversed and see a bottomless pit beneath them along with rapidly ascending walls of a cliff around the area of effect's perimeter. The phantasmal, tactile sensation of their bodies being lifted with gravity coupled with the visual phantasm underneath was enough to overwhelm both shadow clones. The inevitable subconscious reaction within them had been believed. They fell prone and crawled desperately on the ground in an impossible attempt to stop their fall. Inoryu had taken the reigns of the genjutsu and was able to keep the genjutsu effective for as long as he concentrated on their subconscious. In the spirit of practice, he would maintain his concentration and continue to prey on their subconscious beliefs.

    It seemed as though the hard part was over. Inoryu was able to concentrate for a full minute without suffering any drawbacks, feeling any fatigue, or expending anymore chakra. He had determined that he would be able to concentrate and maintain the genjutsu indefinitely. He released his concentration and drew two hira shuriken from his butt bag. He needed to understand the effects of the jutsu so he palm threw the two hira shuriken which struck the shadow clone on the left on the upper and middle left side of his torso. It didn't vanish due to imbuing them with a stronger constitution, the two hira shuriken merely stuck into his flesh. 

    Inoryu observed closely. It would appear that the shadow clone that had been stuck with the hira shuriken would be stunned, but about after six seconds, he was able to regain his senses. The second shadow clone, however, was still facing the effects of the illusory pit jutsu. He continued to awkwardly crawl about the ground in an attempt to stop his fall. Inoryu would observe the second shadow clone and let the affects of the jutsu play out.

    Inoryu and the unaffected shadow clone merely watched as the second shadow clone continued to suffer under the genjutsu's effects. Inoryu was being mindful of the time and when the genjutsu's affects had worn off, over a minute and a half had passed. The shadow clone that was still prone attempted to get up but was stunned with vertigo. Another six seconds past until he fully regained his senses. He fully stood now, facing Inoryu with an obedient and indifferent expression. 

    It would seem that Inoryu was successful with the genjutsu but he wanted to practice more. He wanted to be more efficient with his chakra, he wanted to execute the genjutsu swifter. He wanted to test the genjutsu against the natural resistance of his shadow clones to determine whether his success was more fluke or skill. He weaved through the eight hand seal components more quickly and enabled the dual phantasms of the genjutsu with his chakra. The shadow clones would again be put through the turmoil of falling down into an illusory pit. 

    Their arms raised slightly as the phantasmal gravity caused the tactile sensation of falling and below them was the visual phantasm of a bottomless, illusory pit that covered 60 meters of the field around them. Inoryu maintained his concentration over the genjutsu but was surprised that after about six seconds, the first shadow clone was able to regain his senses. However, the second shadow clone had fallen prone and crawled abnormally on the ground, falling. Inoryu released his concentration. As he observed the second shadow clone, he would say, "The pit is only an illusion." From that point, the shadow clone attempted a genjutsu kai. The first attempt would appear to be unsuccessful, but after gathering himself he tried again. It took two more attempts until he was able to dispel the genjutsu, saving him from nearly another minute and a half of psychosis.

    Inoryu was beginning to understand how profound the illusory pit, and the phantasm perception was overall. His interest in dreams and the subconscious had fueled the consistent study of phantasms over the past two years and he wondered if these interests were rooted in his clan jutsu. It was possible considering that the phantasm perception was inexplicably similar to the jutsu he had grown up learning as a child. Maybe it was the Yamanaka clan jutsu that inspired the phantasm perception, vice-versa, or could they have been both using the same principles of the mind? Maybe they were two different roads to the same destination. 

    He weaved through the eight hand seals and converted his chakra into potent hallucinations in the shadow clone's minds. The two shadow clones were seeing and feeling yet again, the 60 meter diameter bottomless pit below and the affect of psuedo-gravity take hold with the sensation of descent. It was up to them whether they believed they were falling into the pit or not but either way they would feel the affects of vertigo and be stunned for six seconds.  The first shadow clone resisted the genjutsu to his best of his ability and remained standing as he faced the effect of vertigo. The second clone had believed that he was falling and fell down to his hands and knees. 

    After a brief moment, the first shadow clone had recovered. Inoryu ceased his concentration and reminded the shadow clone, "It is merely a genjutsu." Inoryu had the option of ending the genjutsu for the shadow clone quickly with a shuriken, but he decided to allow the shadow clone to escape himself. He would be patient until the genjutsu was dispelled. He knew that if the genjutsu wasn't dispelled, it would wear off in approximately two minutes.

    It took twelve seconds for the shadow clone to dispel the genjutsu and another six seconds stunned by vertigo, after that he had regained his senses. Inoryu understood that even though he may be trapped in a high level genjutsu such as the illusory pit, it was still very plausible to dispel it quickly. He would eventually go on to further his genjutsu kai training, but for now his focus was on casting the illustrious phantasm. He wanted more practice so that when the need of the jutsu arose, it would come to him as second nature. He weaved through the eight hand seals and commenced. 

    Like a conductor directing his chakra to the music of the phantasmal perception, Inoryu affected the minds of his targets. Both shadow clones would see the phantasm of the ground appear as a bottomless pit in a 60 meter diameter, covering a large portion of the training area. While this appeared, the false tactile sensation of rapid descent would inevitably cause a mild case of vertigo. This time, both shadow clones would believe the illusory pit and fall prone, desperately trying to crawl their way out of the genjutsu but failing. Inoryu observed this while he maintained concentration. 

    Inoryu maintained his concentration for two minutes to verify that no more chakra consumption would take place. After the two minutes was up, he again confirmed that he would be able to maintain concentration indefinitely without anymore chakra. Having released his concentration, he would take a sit on the field and rest until the affect on the shadow clones wore off. He was feeling a sizable drain on his chakra, he determined he had used up more than half of his entire chakra pool. Though he still had a lot of chakra left, he appreciated the few seconds of rest.

    As the shadow clones dispelled the genjutsu, Inoryu continued to rest. He wasn't exhausted, but he had exercised his chakra and chakra control well. On any other day, he might have called finished his training, but today was peculiar. He was up practicing at 3:12am, in dark grey sweatpants, a red hoodie, and a butt bag with some ninja tools. Something in him was infinite. One might think it was will or determination, but it wasn't quite that. It was more of an overflow of all the energies within him needing to be spent. This feeling persisted even though his chakra was more than half depleted. 

    So he rested, because it would seem that this peculiar day would cause him to push himself beyond his wildest imaginations. He was content, absorbing the lessons of the illusory pit jutsu. The influence that the chakra has over the mind interested him greatly, whether it was conducted through Yamanaka clan jutsu or the phantasm perception. He noted that though they were similar, they were yet different in their execution. He realized that there was a balance to everything, and there were pros and cons to every application. Yet, learning more and updating his repertoire, would prepare him for more kinds of situations. Having the option to choose between the phantasm perception, or his clan jutsu gave him more adaptability, and thus more power. 

    He lied back and allowed his chakra to recover for at least ten minutes with a clear mind. This mind allowed him to absorb the practice more deeply as new neural networks were being generated in his brain. He visualized his chakra when using the technique; the way he transformed it into phantasms and affected the targets. That part, at least, was the same with the Yamanaka clan's jutsu. The difference was between ninjutsu and genjutsu, yet both affect the mind.

The duration of this technique lasts for 50 minutes per class level. This technique may be negated. This powerful phantasm fools the subject into believing itself more competent than it really is. The Jutsu makes any movement the target considers attempting, even the most daunting feats, seem easily accomplished required only a token effort. Deadly wounds seem like mere scratches, stalwart foes appear weak and intimidated, and the subject's own attacks seem stronger and more effective. As a result of its skewed perceptions, the subject a -10 penalty on attack damage and skill checks, -2 penalty to saves, as well as a -2 penalty to Perception. Finally, the subject becomes so completely enamored with its own (false) abilities that it cannot fight defensively or take the total defense movement.

    Since the shadow clones have both dispelled the illusory pit phantasm, Inoryu was eager to continue. He thought of other ways that the phantasm perception could take affect, ways that would be super effective and still conserve chakra. He was beginning to understand that the phantasm perception was a conglomeration, and each individual phantasm became more powerful when worked together as a whole. Having obtained this philosophy, he would train another strategy that he aptly named 'Wars of Attrition.' 

    He would start by using phantasms for a specific affect and continue with various other affects that would all compliment one another. First, he would affect the mind with an inflated sense of self. By inflating the ego, the target would think himself more capable than he is, shrugging off even deadly wounds as mere scratches, perceiving stalwart foes appear to be weak and intimidated, and believing that even the most daunting tasks seem easily accomplished with only a token effort. As a result of his skewed perceptions, the target loses strength in his attacks, their genjutsu resistance is lowered, and any skill that has to do with perception is handicapped. 

    With this intention in mind, Inoryu was able to intuit the eight necessary hand seals and initiate the genjutsu. It took two attempts for the delusions of grandeur to succeed and he ordered the two shadow clones to spar each other to observe the effects. The result was that the shadow clone possessed with the delusions of grandeur was defeated within a few seconds. The unaffected shadow clone took advantage of the genjutsu by reverting to an offensive strategy and the affected shadow clone was quickly overwhelmed with straight punches, uppercuts, well timed kicks and shuriken. The affected shadow refused to defend himself and his taijutsu was easily countered every time. The foolhardy shadow clone vanished from the world in a puff of smoke without even a successful attack on the other.

Description: A Fear, Mind-Affecting Technique. Affects 1 living creature. The user is able to perform this technique at a distance of 7 meters plus 6 meters per class level. The duration of this technique is instantaneous. This technique may be disbelieved once interacted with. User creates phantasmal images of nightmare creatures in the target's mind, visible only as shadowy shapes to the user and unseen by all others. If the target succeeds on an initial Will save, it recognizes that the images are not real, and the Jutsu fails. If not, the phantasms strike the target, dealing 4 points of Perception damage and 4 points of Agility damage (2 points each on a successful 2nd Will save).
Limit: Must know the Phantasm Perception.

    Inoryu recalled the theory of the phantom assailants jutsu; producing phantasmal images of creatures from the subject's nightmares. If the jutsu was believed, the phantom assailants would attack and he would suffer what the book had called 'ability damage.' If he remembered correctly, a successful attack could cause ability damage to agility; a physiological reaction to the trauma, and perception; a psychological one. As the book explained, damage to the perception ability made the subject more susceptible to genjutsu and that was what made this jutsu very strategic in 'wars of attrition.'

    Inoryu weaved the eight hand seals in line with the theory and produced the phantasm assailants effect with the precise amount of chakra necessary. The genjutsu couldn't be negated, and the shadow clone witnessed fearsome, nightmarish creatures surrounding him out of thin air. His mind subconsciously refused to believe the genjutsu so the phantom assailants faded as suddenly as they appeared. Inoryu would try again in an attempt to apply the ability damage, and the phantom assailants appeared again to surround the shadow clone. This time Inoryu observed as the shadow figures of the phantom assailants struck the shadow clone with claws and fangs before vanishing. 

    The chuunin could sense that the shadow clone had taken a direct attack with the full damage ability affects. In order to test the shadow clone's susceptibility to genjutsu, Inoryu produce more phantom assailants, and to his surprise the shadow clone was able to resist. He thought maybe he didn't use the jutsu correctly, because surely if he was more susceptible than he would be less likely to resist. He tried again and still the shadow resisted. He paused and thought, "Well this genjutsu isn't a guaranteed success, but there is a more concrete method to prove the ability damage. He suffered agility damage as well so his movements should be decreased." He ordered his shadow clone to demonstrate the first stance of gintsuki no seiko mai, the taijutsu treasure of Kusagakure. The shadow clone obeyed and began to demonstrate the techniques of the drifting snow stance. There was a pause as he transitioned from twin colds to dancing colds, a brief period to gather himself for the next technique that interrupted the fluidity of the demonstration. It would appear as the ability damage was true and effective, "That's enough."

Description: A Fear, Mind-Affecting Technique. Affects 1 living creature. The user is able to perform this technique at a distance of 7 meters plus 6 meters per class level. The duration of this technique lasts for 5 rounds per class level. This technique may be disbelieved once interacted with. The subject of this Jutsu becomes dizzy as the ground seems to drop away beneath its feet. If failing to disbelieve the subject falls to a prone position. If affected, the subject also takes a -10 penalty to Attack Damage and -2 to Will saves for additional Jutsus that require one. Airborne creatures receive a +4 bonus on saves against this Jutsu.
Limit: Must know the Phantasm Perception.

    In lieu with the 'wars of attrition' strategy, Inoryu would think back to other phantasm jutsu he had studied and remember another one with ability damage to perception, "Vertigo. A fear, mind-affecting technique that affects one living creature. A disbelief genjutsu. It is the more condensed version of the illusory pit jutsu but also containing ability damage properties," he thought.  

    Due to his previous practice with the illusory pit jutsu, vertigo came to him effortlessly. It was as if the jutsu was working itself and he was just a spectator. He weaved through the eight hand seals and his chakra was so well adapted to the jutsu that it seemed to transform into the phantasm on its own. So quickly processed was it, that his chakra reached the shadow clone instantaneously after completing the final hand seal. He knew the execution of the jutsu well and was eager to apply the ability damage.  

    On the first attempt Inoryu could sense the success of the genjutsu. After witnessing the ground fall from beneath his feet, the shadow clone fell prone. The physiological reaction of the shadow clone was further confirmation of the jutsu's success and he knew that the ability damage had been successful as well. He would wait nearly two minutes for the affects of the genjutsu to wear off. When the shadow clone recovered, Inoryu had recovered some chakra and was ready to proceed.
