Having learned to open her Eyes of the Planes, Valerys looked out into the desert and began to make out the shifting aura of an invisible creature. She could make out that it was some sort of humanoid, but it was still some distance away from her -- at least 50 meters. Wondering what this entity was doing so far out from civilization, Valerys decided that she wanted to use the Dragon of Wandering Folly technique to try to lead the creature off-course. However, it was so far away that normally this would have been impossible. Relying upon her knowledge of chakra lore, Valerys mentally referenced a jutsu enhancement that could allow her to increase the range of her techniques. She put her hands together and started to weave the handsigns for her genjutsu, but knew that this time she would have to add a new combination of handseals at the end of her sequence. The altered signs would alter her chakra as well, allowing it to harness even greater power according to the old chakra sages.

She found that this enhancement, and the signs that it required, used up more chakra than the ordinary technique. Fortunately, she'd chosen a d-ranked genjutsu and the extra drain on her chakra reserves was not that great. Still, she had to infuse even more power into her image of the dragon and cause it to stretch over the sandy terrain. The chakra rushed forward toward the invisible creature and Valerys maintained her concentration until it got to about 37-meters, or the range that was normally her limit. After this she felt a great resistance to her jutsu, but Valerys pushed harder with her will and chakra to overcome the boundary. All of her chakra, and therefore the floating dragon, started to move past the 37-meter mark and traveled an extra meter.

The dragon started to move another meter further, and Valerys could feel a great strain on her psyche -- as if somebody were trying to yell into her ear. She tried to maintain the genjutsu, but the stress was too great and eventually it dissipated. Valerys tried again as the invisible creature continued to move further out of range, now getting to 55 meters away, and so she rushed through the set of handseals as quickly as possible (adding the two new ones to the sequence as before). Her chakra rushed out around her and formed the dragon, who flitted quickly through the air and toward the 39-meter mark. It had broken once getting this far, so Valerys took precautions and allowed ample amounts of her chakra to move forward and wait below the ground. As the dragon started to move into 40-meters, it drew Valerys' chakra up from the ground and used it to sustain itself.

In this way, the tiny dragon from the genjutsu was able to continue absorbing Valerys' chakra from the ground until it had made it all the way to 42-meters. That was when Valerys began to feel the same resistance from before as her technique reached its new limit, but she refused to quite and summoned as much power as she could in an attempt to push her genjutsu past the threshold. All of her chakra stormed the distance toward the invisible creature, but fell short. Still, Valerys was able to send her technique out to 45-meters before it disappeared this time. Since she'd become decent at increasing the range of her techniques but still wasn't able to reach the creature, Valerys snuck up from afar and gained a little bit of distance so that the entity was once again only 50 meters away. She kept a close distance on the humanoid as it walked so that it couldn't get further.

Valerys formed her string of handseals once more, sending her chakra throughout the entire area in front of her in a straight line. She directed her chakra to form the image of the dragon-fairy, as it flitted forward just like before. This time, however, Valerys concentrated on her technique and found the distance where it normally ended with her eyes (37 meters). When she saw that her chakra had leaked on to the field and made it this far, Valerys suddenly formed the extra handsigns and let her chakra re-group at the boundary. It was as if she was starting to form the handsigns for the genjutsu a second time, but it didn't take nearly as long, and her chakra reacted immediately -- linking with the first half of her genjutsu. It felt as if the genjutsu were able to travel much further with this new sort of trick, moving across the ground another five meters and to the aura of the invisible creature.

As her genjutsu came within range of the creature, it saw the illusion and immediately succumbed to its temptation. Now that Valerys knew she could control its movements, she wondered what other jutsus she could enlarge in order to hit the humanoid and make her presence known. She thought of her force techniques and decided that a Blast of Force would be a technique that she could enlarge to quite a long distance. As if to test the theory, she sent the invisible creature chasing after the dragon as it moved further than 50 meters away. It was difficult to both maintain the illusion and expand the range of the technique, but Valerys seemed to split the processes in her mind and controlled her chakra in each direction. The dragon seemed to flicker once when it got to 53 meter but stabilized as Valerys regained her composure. The chakra continued to seep out of her body and into the surrounding environment.

The dragon finally disappeared at 55 meters, but Valerys didn't mind as she had manuevered her concentration to focus on creating an enlarged Blast of Force. She sent enormous amounts of chakra running down her arm like a river through her subtle body. She pooled all of the power in the palm of her hand, feeling it radiate gently throughout her fingertips as she charged to unleash a technique. A soft, white glow began to accompany the force technique as it contained itself within Valerys' arm -- but she knew that this could not be an ordinary technique. The invisible creature had chased the dragon and moved beyond, now seventy meters away. Normally this would have had Valerys worried, but since she had extended the range of her genjutsu she trusted that she could do the same with her force techniques.

Valerys held up her hands and aimed them toward the invisible humanoid whose aura she could faintly see. She ran her chakra through the ground and to the boundary of what was normally the range for the Blast of Force. At this position, Valerys allowed her chakra to seep into the ground and prepare to double the range just as it had with her genjutsu earlier. Letting in one, final breath, Valerys look forward and let the force chakra burst from her palm -- flying forward with all of the power that her chakra network could supply. The blast shot outwards for at least 100 meters, but the invisible creature had gained quite a distance and the attack faded as it tried to suck up the chakra from the ground around the end of its range. It had been too far away for Valerys to appropriately manipulate the chakra. She knew that she would have to try harder on the next attempt.

Over 100 meters was quite the distance, but normal for a Blast of Force. Reaching one's chakra to that distance and maintaining it there for a period of time, just to change its shape and use it to power a force technique was extremely difficult (and Valerys wasn't even a chakra expert). Still Valerys would not give up and this time, before she even started building her technique, Valerys picked out a spot 100 meters away and began to fill it with chakra. It became almost like a pool of energy waiting to be harnessed, but Valerys knew that she would need to keep her concentration on this point at all times or else it would fade too quickly like before. She prepared herself and then let the chakra swarm down her arm, filling up her palm, and she raised it in the direction of the invisible human who had moved to 130 meters away. Then the force blasted out of her hand with a recoil that Valerys had never experienced.

The Blast of Force easily made it to the 100 meter mark and then hit the space where Valerys had been storing up all of her chakra like a pool. Suddenly she threw her hands in a second formation, and the chakra rushed out of the ground and into the force technique as if it were jets of white light shooting up from the earth. The force blast began to absorb the chakra like a sponge and refueled its range -- suddenly taking off like a rocket clearly past the 100 meter limit. The blast traveled another ten meters with ease before it even started to slow down, and Valerys kept her eye on it the whole time knowing that this was the moment when she might be able to hit the stranger creeping across the desert. Small tendrils of chakra were slowly leaking out of her arms and continuing to fuel the blast as it traveled forth.

115 meters. 120 meters. 125 meters.

The blast moved past its ordinary limit and had finally started slowing down. Valerys found that her chakra was beginning to run out, but her opponent was so close. She sucked in and controlled her subtle body with her breath, and a last trace of chakra burst into the force technique as it bridged the distance to the creature. All of a sudden the invisible aura was hit with a blast of force chakra as if it had been half the distance away -- pushing backwards even further and slamming it to the ground. All of a sudden its invisibility went away and Valerys could see that it was really some sort of goblinoid that was skulking around the country-side. While she wanted to run up and attack it with her spear, Valerys controlled herself and realized that this was another opportunity to try out her enhancement. This time, however, it would be with a jutsu that was even more powerful than the two that she had already used.

Valerys started to form the handsigns for the Phantasmal Killer genjutsu. Normally it had a range the same as the Blast of Force, but this technique was a b-rank which meant that it required vastly higher levels of chakra to maintain. Not to mention that she needed to supply extra chakra in order to imbue the enhancement into the technique. She could feel the focus of her genjutsu, the killer, beginning to form with all of the chakra that Valerys was able to provide. The goblin had been shocked by the force attack and tried to get to his feet, but Valerys had already formed the killer and was having it bypass the 100 meter limit that it normally had. Suddenly, however, Valerys felt out of breath and she knew that she'd expended too much of her chakra. She looked closely at the distance that remained between her and the goblin, and she gritted her teeth as she used the last of her reserves to push the killer into a chakra pool. It instantly regained its range and swarmed over the goblin.

Valerys watched with sweet satisfaction as her genjutsu came to life over 150 meters away.
