Several days after returning from the Chuunin Exams, Hamura had made a point out of furthering himself as a fighter, not just as a Shinobi or as a Scholar. Though it was not even close to what he wanted to become, he had come to realize that at least knowing how to fend off an enemy fighter in one on one combat and find a way to overcome them was also an important thing to be capable of. He had to consider the kind of danger he might be in if he were to be found out while skulking around in stealth and faced down by a stronger opponent.
But that was exactly why he had gone out in search of a person he had not exactly envisioned himself seeking out quite so soon, if at all. Shortly after returning to the land of Wind, he had gone out looking for the mountains further to the northwestern portion of the country, hoping to find an ancient being called Sōjōbō. Prior to the exams themselves, Hamura had been studying various languages, learned about plant and wildlife in mountainous regions as well as learning how to navigate in the wilderness. Perhaps more important than that, he had taken the time to learn more about Tengu.
In the same book that taught him how to speak the language did he find that the person who had learned of the Tengu lore and their languages had managed to do so after spending months getting to a well hidden and sacred place called Sōjōgatani, otherwise known as the valley of the high priest. Since the very name Sōjōbō meant high priest, it seemed odd to him that this had been his actual name, but that was not important. Continuing his descent up into the mountain, he had been tested by a lot of different factors which were all equally annoying and dangerous even to him.
