It didn't quite work this time. He was definitely getting closer though. Hopefully soon Tomomi'd figure this out. He tried using more energy, and he tried using negative emotions and intentions in order to transform the technique into a curse. Perhaps he wasn't evil enough? Perhaps he wasn't using enough energy? In order to make the technique permanent, he'd definitely need to use more energy.

He used a considerable amount of energy last time. Perhaps enough for a B rank. But now that he thought about it, that probably wasn't enough. So he resumed his spot on the floor, where he began moulding the soul energy he'd need. It wasn't an impossible amount of chakra, but it was considerable. He continued until he had as much energy ready as the last time he attempted to produce the curse.

Tomo then produced even more energy. Perhaps another rank of energy entirely. Maybe an A rank or so. He felt the soul energy overflowing from his body, and as he did so, he considered the negative energy required for a curse. He'd definitely get it right this time. His energy seemed to bubble with the evil in his heart, this ability was essential for his plans. He'd get it right this time.

As Tomo activated the technique, he felt the curse envelop him. He got something right this time. It felt good, to have the effects of a technique envelop him so permanently. Although... it wasn't permanent. Something wasn't quite right. It wasn't enough energy. He'd definitely need to do it again. So again he sat in his room, considering exactly what he'd need to do to produce the perfect results.

He definitely felt as if he'd produced a curse this time, but probably not permanent. So he released the technique and began moulding the energy. Perhaps this would be the last time he needed to experiment with this ability. He was close. He'd get it this time. Once again he moulded the energy required for the technique, and then continued moulding. Once he moulded as much as last time he maintained his moulding.

He continued until he had another rank of chakra, an S rank this time. He'd be thoroughly exhausted after this. Tomo was finally ready. For a bit he thoroughly considered the possibilities of this ability. It was crucial for his evil ambitions. He felt a black fog clouding his vision, before he finally activated the technique. It was definitely going to work this time.

Tomomi awoke one particular morning in Marineford with orders different from the typical directions he'd come to expect. He was going to be taught a new skill today. That skill being First Aid. He was going to help injured Marines that return from their missions or battles or whatever. Tomo was taken to a room where a doctor was expected to teach the lad how to administer treatment to those who need it.

Now, the first and most important aspect of any care that a doctor can give is to provide food and water. Hydration and nutrients go hand-in-hand with the recovery process. Apparently there is no way for a person to heal in a timely and healthy fashion if they don't have that. It may not be the first step, but it is definitely the most crucial.

Now that Tomo understood the basics of food and water assisting in the healing process he was ready to move on slightly. He'd now come to learn that it wasn't just any old food or water that help with recovery, but also the type of liquid or food that matter. This may actually depend on the condition of the patient. Perhaps they need something sweet, or warmer, or even colder.

Sometimes the food they need to eat may need to be easier to consume. Perhaps softer, or just easier to chew in some way. A lot of times, cereal or oatmeal can be a good choice. Mashed potatoes can be extremely easy to digest for a sick or critically injured patient.

Despite his sense of accomplishment, apparently it takes years to master the medical profession. A rather unfortunate outcome considering Tomomi's current lack of patience. But he wasn't done yet, the fellow continued Tomo's compulsory education. The next step seemed to involve the direct treatment of injuries specifically. Injuries may require sterilization, which is absolutely important.

There are several methods for cleaning a wound. Evidently the simplest - disregarding resources - is alcohol. Alcohol will disinfect a wound completely by pouring the substance, or placing it on a injury directly.

Tomomi grew weary of these lectures, perhaps soon he'd need to be shown some practical examples of these injuries and how to care for them. But for now, their lectures weren't finished. An injury or wound doesrequire disinfecting with alcohol, or apparently hot water. That much was already made clear, but apparently there's more to this. If you don't dress an injury correctly they won't heal properly.

The correct bandaging or dressing of an injury will protect an opening from being exposed to the elements, and perhaps becoming infected. This allows a laceration or other injury to recover properly.

Tomomi was then shown different types of dressings, that are used most commonly. The simplest is a regular band-aid, which is all that is needed to cover a regular wound. Unfortunately, band-aids are typically small, and cannot be used on larger injuries. This is where bandages come in. Bandages can and are used, along with gauze or a soft cloth to protect injuries from the elements.

If you use a bandage, it requires the use of gauze or some other soft make-shift cloth to protect a wound properly. You simply cover the wound in clean cloth, and then wrap a bandage around this.

The bandages that Tomo was shown need to be replaced frequently. If you don't replace bandages, injuries can become infected. Allowing a wound to breath for a moment can also be good for the recovery process. Eventually, Tomomi hurriedly shut the man up so that they could go get some more practical experience. Apparently there were other slaves meant to serve as aids to teach Tomo.

The men simply stood still while he practiced dressing 'pretend' wounds on their arms and legs. This allowed Tomo to get the hang of wrapping bandages, and the types of cloth acceptable for dressing an injury.

Tomo's efforts were not rewarded with a pat or a high-5. He was told to get his ass to work on treating patients. Now that he had a handle on the general care required to treat basic injuries, he could definitely provide service in the emergency clinic downstairs. Apparently Marines go to battle or missions, and return with injuries that require treatment. Tomo was going to provide treatment to some of these individuals.

He didn't want to, but it'd have to do as hands-on learning. He was escorted to the ward, where he got to work quickly. While there, he dressed wounds for hours. Bruises, paper cuts, gashes, burns. Anything that constitutes as a light injury really.

Tomomi was gaining experience quickly, but they soon told him his shift was over. He was brought back to his forge, where he got back to making weapons. Then he was given food, and some time to sleep. Tomorrow he'd learn about how to set a bone, and how and when to amputate a limb. So he slept restlessly while thinking about the skills he'd be forced to learn tomorrow. He was less than excited.

As he arrived in the ward downstairs, he was greeted by pained wailing. There was a man standing in front of him whose leg happened to be pointing in the wrong direction. Tomo eyed the process carefully, making mental notes while the doctor set the bone and began the process of preparing a splint.

The yelling grew in decibels as the bone was set into place. Tomomi couldn't help but wince as he watched the man scream in agony. It was painful even to watch. The color seemed to fade from the fellow's skin, leaving a pale yellow tone. The man would die if they didn't stop the bleeding. But before Tomo could finish that thought, they were done. Everything happened so fast.

Before he knew it, the bone was set. The wound was cleaned, stitched shut, bandaged, and a make-shift cast was created and applied to the leg. The man fell unconscious as the nurse inserted an IV drip in order to allow the man to recover his lost blood. It was incredible.

It was really impressive how the doctors and nurses managed to perform emergency care on patients so perfectly. Tomo didn't particularly care for helping people. However, his ambitions required these frustratingly dull days of learning and being taught. So he trudged through his days of watching medical professionals performing their duties. But eventually, they allowed him to participate.

Tomo became proficient at treating basic injuries extremely quickly. Cuts, bruises, gashes, light burns and other insignificant ailments were nothing for the aspiring medic. Tomo was ready to move on with his mastery.

Tomomi continued progressing with his skill in giving care to those who need it. Now that he'd become proficient at dealing with minor injuries, he was ready to move onto some more critical injuries and ailments. And just as he was thinking this, one such individual came through the door. A man with a broken leg was wheeled into the ward, and Tomo was going to be placed in charge of helping this man.

As Tomo examined the injury, one of the nurses reassuringly explained to Tomo the exact process required for treating the broken bone. If he completed the process correctly, the fellow would be entirely healed very soon.

Tomo rolled the man into a divided room, and sedated him completely. Tomo didn't want the man screaming while he went to work on his leg. The first and most important step in the process was to completely drench the injured portion of the man's leg in alcohol. This would thoroughly disinfect the wound, and allow them to set the bone without worrying about future concerns.

This was debatably the most painful step of the treatment. And the man winced and flinched slightly during the disinfection. But soon the man would be completely treated.

Now that the wound was completely disinfected, Tomo needed to set the bone. This was where Tomo stepped into uncharted waters. He'd never set a bone before, but the nurses were confident that he'd be able to do it. He couldn't help but cringe at their positive attitude. But Tomo was willing to delve into potential failure, if it meant future success. He'd get this done one way or another.

Quickly and gently, Tomo pushed the bone back into the opening it stuck out from. The young man started to groan in agony, even while asleep. But Tomo wasn't done yet. The bone was yet to be set completely

Tomomi's next course of action was to fix the two portions of bone together. This way they'd mend themselves during the healing process. This of course was only providing that the man kept his weight off of the leg until it healed. This is where Tomo's Byakugan comes in handy. By seeing into the leg, Tomo was able to press his hands onto the outside of the man's leg, and thereby adjusting the bones.

Tomo's efforts resulted in the bones being placed directly where they're supposed to be, allowing them to heal efficiently. Tomo quickly stitched the wound together, and began preparing the cast.

The cast Tomo made for the man's leg was simple, really. Tomomi hurriedly, but carefully began the process of thoroughly wrapping the man's leg with bandages. First he positioned the braces carefully so that the man's leg wouldn't move even a little. Then he wrapped the braces mightily with over an inch of bandages. After this was all done the bandages were somewhat hard.

This left a cast on the leg, so that even if weight fell onto the man's leg or foot, he wouldn't have to worry much. Obviously the fellow can't put much weight on the leg for very long, otherwise it'll hinder the healing process, but he should be fine.

Tomo's job was complete, and he did a great job too. The man's leg was completely treated. As long as he left it alone till it healed he'd be fine. The nurses gave him a pat on the back and directed him to the doctor for his next lesson. It was during this meeting that Tomomi was told that his knowledge of anatomy was extremely limited. Although it wasn't missing entirely, he did have things to learn.

Because Tomo possessed byakugan, he'd been able to see inside of a human for as long as he could remember. This didn't entirely help, because he hadn't been focusing on anatomy to this point.
