"Prepare yourselves, the bells have tolled. Shelter your weak, your young and your old. Each of you shall pay the final sum. Cry for mercy; the reckoning has come."
____
Every year around this time, it was as if the things one would consider to be strange became less strange, steering more towards becoming normal. While it was not something everyone accepted, many sages, gurus, druids, witches and clerics could all agree on the fact that hard to explain events and situations presented themselves a whole lot more as of late. Whether the same had happened last year or the years before was not something Hamura could really remember at this point, though he could almost sense unrest in the very air he breathed. Still being in the outer portions of the land of wind, near where the borders of the land of wind, stone and rain met, the young boy had temporarily taken a breather at a small village.
While he said small village, it could better be explained as an outpost of sorts, surrounded by walls made up of thick wooden poles against which tons of sand had been compressed. With four gates in total, there were plenty of ways to get in, each one guarded by two sentries that kept an eye on the place, making sure no shady folk would get in without properly being questioned first. Once inside, one could find a small shack just large enough for about five people that sold Bento, Yakitori and Kushiyaki skewers. Aside from that, there was a bar that had apparently been around longer than the settlement itself, leading many to the assumption that the place had actually been built around it at some point. Finally, there were several residential homes and an orphanage.
Spending some time sitting around in the food shack, he thought about the stories people had told about the surrounding area, as the land near the three borders was rather peculiar. The area to the northeast was basically one big marsh one had to traverse before entering into the land of rain. The area to the northwest was a mountainous region with many caverns that most people would not venture into. Finally, the was the whole southern region was more or less just a whole lot of sand stretching out as far as the eye could see. But in regards to the northeastern and northwestern areas, there had been a bunch of stories from past years that had made their way to his ears.
One such story was about how an entire group of children from the orphanage had at some point disappeared into the caverns to the northwest, claiming to have been led there by a strange looking old woman. Another similar story spoke of strange blue lights popping up in and around the swamps to the northeast, followed by loud shrieks and cries coming from deeper inside the marshlands where many a shinobi had fallen and disappeared beneath the murky waters during the days of old. Truly, the name that had been bestowed upon the settlement itself did it justice, as many had at the very least heard of the "Mittsu no kokkyō". One thing was certain though, many came to this place around this time of year in order to figure out some of the mysterious things that had happened.
Shinobi, hunters, samurai, monks and others came through the settlement, asking around in order to get as much information as they possibly could before venturing into the marshes or the caverns, though many did not come back, while those that did often ended up in the bar, never speaking to anyone about what they had seen. Over the years, fewer and fewer had started coming to Mittsu no kokkyō, though the people of the settlement still welcomed those that did come with open arms. Hoping to make a bit of money on them by offering them to spend the night in one of their homes for a small fee, drink a bunch of ale in the bar or fill their bellies on skewered meats, there were also those that hoped that someone might solve the many, many mysterious that surrounded the place so they might sleep better at night.

To those that join, I feel like i've created a fairly decent description of the surroundings and the settlement, but also allowed for some personal input. Now, people can use this place as a stepping stone into other missions if they feel so inclined and can return at a later time after the mission is finished, or just stay here for the sake of conversation and none-mission related things. Just try and keep things civil without destroying too much or killing a ton of people.
Also, if someone wants additional info or whatever that one might get from questioning the locals (Maybe to get ideas for stuff to RP about or do a mission about of some kind), feel free to PM me or ask me in the chatbox so I can help you on your way.
