Kage Bunshin no Jutsu (Shadow Clone Technique)

Effect: This technique creates clones of the user. However, these clones are actual copies, not illusions.
Special: "Clone Seal"
Drawback: The user's chakra is evenly distributed among every clone, giving each clone an equal fraction of the user's overall power.
Description: The clones are capable of performing techniques on their own and can even bleed, but will usually disperse after 1 or 2 solid blows. They can also disperse on their own. The clones will be created in roughly the same condition as the original. Shadow clones cannot be distinguished from the actual person even by the Byakugan because the clones have the exact same amount of chakra and aren't made from any other substance. A characteristic that is unique to the Shadow Clone Technique is that any experience the clones gain during their existence is transferred to the user once they are dispersed. This makes the technique ideal for spying, since the user can simply send a clone to spy on a target, then have the clone disperse itself without returning to pass the information back to the user. (Cannot gain extra training points through training with Shadow clone.) User is able to make up to 5 clones at a time. Takes the amount of time to perform a "B" Rank Jutsu. Shadow Clones may travel between different threads within the same board.
Limit: Universal NinJutsu Technique. Must be Chūnin or gain Village Scroll.

Though the boy had only recently become a Chuunin of the Hidden Sand, after being the one who had managed to score the most points out of all of his fellow village peers, he had decided not to waste any time on utilizing his new privileges. One of those privileges was the one that allowed him to read up on and into the village scroll. Though it sounded like it wasn't that big a deal, Hamura knew quite well that this particular scroll contained one of the most versatile and universally applicable ninjutsu techniques in the known world, and that was what made it into such a big deal for the young ninja.

Though he had never seen it up close, he had heard the stories about it in the academy, back when they were in the process of learning the generic clone technique. Since the difference between the two was clear in that one was merely an illusion and the other was a solid clone, there were several other differences between it and the techniques Hamura had learned since mastering the regular clone technique. Having learned to utilize clones made from elemental compounds like water and earth, there were still other differences between them in spite of them both being physical doppelgangers.

He had learned around that time that the shadow clone was one of the tools most fit for the sake of recon and spying purposes due to the fact that it not only copied the user completely, including their thought processes and talents, but it also had a pretty nifty trick built into it. This trick was planted in the fact that this clone did not need to return to the user or to the village, meaning one did not have to risk it being captured or killed. Once the clone got killed or dispelled, it would return as a surge of chakra, making its way back to the user as a rush of memories.

Making the user feel like they were there and witnessed it with their own eyes, it would even allow them to break down reports and explain the situation as if they had actually been there in person. And in a way, that was more or less exactly what the shadow clone was, to send a portion of oneself out for the sake of fighting, figuring things out or otherwise retrieving information. Aside from that, there was one particular reason as to why Hamura also wanted to learn the technique, and that was for the benefit of his training regiment and the furthering of his own skills.

Since increasing the pace of his own training was always a welcome bonus, he had taken the scroll and started looking into the finer details of its execution. Finding that the concept itself was not all that different from other clone techniques he already had in his possession, though the distribution of chakra was somewhat more difficult and taxing on the body, that much was for sure. Knowing that the shadow clone exactly distributed the chakra of the user between the amount of clones they chose to create, it in turn created a potentially dangerous situation in exchange for some extra hands.

While they might be useful for intel gathering missions and the like, utilizing them in battle was not going to be something one should always do without properly thinking it through first. After all, if they created one at the wrong moment and had it wasted, they basically burnt through a very large portion of their chakra. Considering how that could mean the difference between winning a longer, drawn out kind of battle or losing it, and his life along with it, he already started running simulations and forming strategies around them in his head. Being capable of doing so while practicing the more physical accents of the training was probably what allowed him to be an effective shinobi.

Since the hand seals for the technique were really simple, the only thing he thought was odd, or at least rather special was the fact that it had a hand seal that was created specifically for this technique. Whoever had created the technique must have really meant business, or so Hamura thought to himself as he started forming the seal several times over to the point where it would eventually become a thing his body could do almost without thought. Muscle memory was an important thing, that much he had learned when working on his taijutsu skills, though he figured that it was just as handy when it came to the formation of seals.

Once he was done with that part of his training, he started applying what he knew about the lesser clone techniques he possessed knowledge and started properly distributing his chakra. Having to factor in that he shouldn't split all of the chakra he had now due to the technique itself also require some of it to actually initiate the cloning process, he performed the technique as described on the scroll. With a poof of smoke popping up directly next to him, an identical Hamura was standing right beside him. Looking it over to see if he had done anything wrong that might have resulted in deformities, it seemed that this was not the case.

As he tried talking to it, the clone responded in a way one would expect when dealing with Hamura, at exactly the same tone, albeit somewhat more submissive due to it knowing that it was just a cloned version that had to obey the original. Feeling rather content with how things had turned out, he hadn't really imagined that he would get a jutsu as difficult as this right on the first try, though that was what it seemed like at this point. Thinking of some ways to test whether he had truly mastered the technique on the first try, he came up with a proper test.

Feeling that the best way was to try and fight himself, Hamura figured that this clone would need to possess the exact same level of skill, wit and talent as the original. So if he were to go at it with all he had, he wouldn't be capable of disarming or outright beating it on the first try. Hell, if things went the way he thought they would, he could expect some heavy resistance, which was exactly what he was hoping for. Drawing his tanto, he told his clone to do the same, telling it that the two of them would be sparring until he was content with the outcome.

Though one might argue that sparring with bladed weaponry was not that wise a decision, Hamura considered it to be the perfect test for the clone, as well as seeing exactly what he was worth by taking himself on in a one on one battle. When the fight initially started, both he and his clone held back a bit, trying not to take one another out or actually injure the other. Doing so could either dispel the clone, or injure the original for real, two outcomes both did not really look forward to at the time. But as they got more used to one another and realized that they were actually fighting against themselves, the output of the fighting increased exponentially.

Trading one blow for the other, the clashing of blades could be heard from quite a distance due to the sound traveling unchallenged across the sandy surface of the desert. Continuing for at least fifteen minutes before Hamura eventually got tired of challenging himself, he came to the conclusion that the clone technique was in fact perfected to the point where it really did create a perfect clone. Content with how things turned out, he put his tanto away. While the fight itself was done, he wasn't done with the clone just yet, so he refrained from dispelling. Figuring that it might come in useful in his continued training, the wise thing was clearly to keep it around.

With the clone standing next to him, Hamura discussed one of the useful techniques Ajari and Sōjōbō had left with him during his time in Sōjōgatani. Since they were techniques he could unfortunately not have finished while still in that place, for reasons he himself was all too familiar with, now would likely be one of the best moments to continue training them. With the aid of his clone, he figured that he could speed up the process by momentarily discussing it and then continuing to perform this particular style together. Claiming that it was a style that only Hamura and people like him might be capable of performing, he had no idea as to what that really meant, though it made him feel somewhat more special.

Trying what he had learned against his clone, the clone in turn did the same to him as they were trying to hit one another by bypassing each other's defenses. This time however, they did not do so with their tanto but with their hands and feet, believing that this might create a less hostile training environment. Exploiting the openings in the defenses of the other, both Hamura and his clone got bent into some strange positions and dives just to avoid getting a fist or a foot to the face or the abdomen. As time progressed, the both of them got a bit more tired, making it that much more difficult for them to evade the strikes sent towards them.

Relying heavily on their senses to at least try and see the strikes coming, fatigue and a gradually increasing skill on both sides made it into a rather fruitless endeavor. Luckily for him, they were both not going at it with their full might, seeing as the clone would only be able to take so much before it would be dispelled. Aiming to keep the clone alive long enough for the both of them to learn as much as they possibly could from this particular training session, he figured that anything the clone might pick up that he himself had somehow missed would eventually make his way back to him in order to fill in the gaps and increase his own level of skill. And just like that, they kept on going.

As hands and feet were being thrown around, neither Hamura nor the clone were willing to let up as they tried to land some superficial blows on their adversary. Due to the fact that the body of a shadow clone was a lot less durable than Hamura's own, this was really the only way to go about their training without accidentally smashing the clone into nothingness. But since this was something they had discussed before they actually started their sparring session, it was at the very least something both of them were very much aware of as they continuously clashed against one another.

While only being a natural outcome when two young and adaptable minds were put to the test, both Hamura and his doppelganger were getting increasingly more skilled at trying to undermine the defenses of their opponent. And as much as Hamura disliked playing against someone with the exact same set of skills as him, there was no denying that for him, this was by far the best possible way to increase his capabilities and become more knowledgeable about what he could and could not do. More so, it showed him what his weaknesses were, as any weakness he could exploit on the clone was a weakness he possessed by proxy.

Trying his best to make up for the flaws he saw in his clones was one thing, but to do so while still fighting someone who also knew what kind of flaws to look for made it that much more hard to do so, as well as being that much more necessary. So as he tried to cover up his own flaws, he actively tried to look for those made by his clone, finding that he was getting hit increasingly more often now that he was trying to multitask in a fight against his equal. Continuing for several more minutes, Hamura eventually called for a break, feeling that all of the prolonged fighting was really starting to wear him down.

Normally the user takes a -20 penalty to acting checks when made to feint a non-humanoid and -40 penalty on acting checks made to feint a creature of Low or lower intelligence.

Were it not for the fact that he was a very fast learner, chances were that he would have learned a whole lot less than he did up until now. Aside from having taken a few hits and reminding himself of just how many openings he had left when he was actively attacking, he had also been given the chance at improving himself a lot more than he might have when he had fought any other opponent. Taking the time to catch his breath and discuss a couple of things with his clone, he felt that it was rather nice to speak to someone with the same level of intellect as him. After all, this clone was him, at least as far as any jutsu could copy another person in terms of perfection.

Speaking of perfection, both Hamura and his clone had their own points regarding the improvement of the combat style they had been utilizing, which was to be expected. After all, Hamura had been trying to multitask by finding gaps to abuse, as well as trying to spot his own lapses in defense and making up for them. As such, the clone had some insights as to how they could improve themselves as well, which were more than welcome. After switching out some of their findings with one another, they returned to the sparring session, both trying their best to utilize what they had learned to the fullest. Trying to exchange hits became even harder now that both had gotten some more insight into what their weaknesses were.

As exposing weaknesses became a lot less frequent, it became a proper hand to hand fight in which either one of them could potentially end up getting hurt, though they knew this beforehand. After all, the clone had more or less served its purpose, and it was really just a means to get Hamura to learn at a faster rate. Once it got defeated, it would do exactly that, though it had no intention of going down easily because it had too much of Hamura's personality embedded within it. Though it did not take them more than five minutes to properly conclude their fight, it eventually ended with the clone getting hit in the gut with a rising knee hit after taunting it with a high punch. As it disappeared, Hamura experienced a rush of memories and information for the first time in his life.

Effect: This extraordinary special quality allows a creature to detect approaching enemies, sniff out hidden foes, and track by sense of smell.

Description: The creature can detect opponents within 10-meters by sense of smell. If the opponent is upwind, the range increases to 20-meters; if downwind, it drops to 5-meters. Strong scents, such as smoke or rotting garbage, can be detected at x2 the ranges noted above. Overpowering scents, such as skunk musk, can be detected at x3 normal range. When a creature detects a scent, the exact location of the source is not revealed—only its presence somewhere within range. The creature can take a movement to note the direction of the scent. Whenever the creature comes within 2-meters of the source, the creature pinpoints the source’s location. When finding Herbs and Animals (random), Scent may improve searching for them (must have Scent of object previously before searching). Learning "D" Rank allows the user to search for Common things, while "S" for Nearly Impossible. Each rank user learns increases chance of finding by 2% for the Rank of Herb, and increases per Rank thereafter. With the collapse of his clone, a lot of thoughts and memories came rushing from it into Hamura's own brain, exposing him to a rush that he figured could only be emulated by someone who was on some seriously high-end designer drugs. Gaining greater insights into the wolf style he had been practicing along with his clone, he realized a few of the things it had brought up during their conversation to a point that he couldn't by just having it explained to him, which truly proved to him the usefulness of the shadow clone technique. Though with that insight, there was something else that washed over him as well, hunger. Whether it was because the clone had been as hungry as him when it poofed and amplified it within himself, it surely cut his training short.

Having nothing on his person, the fact that he wasn't exactly close to the village or any nearby settlement made getting food a bit tricky. Luckily for him, he knew the terrain quite well, so he made his way from the black rocks towards the oasis he had been to a couple of times before. Once there, he knew that he would find something that he could eat, whether it were a fruit, a vegetable, a root or some kind of animal. Preferring the first over the latter, he really didn't want to kill anything to sate his appetite. Sniffing the air, listening to any sounds carried on the wind and staring out across the oasis, his nose was the first to catch a whiff of something ripe. Being quite certain that it was not of animal origin, he decided to follow it.

Following his nose to a small pear tree, he could see that several of them had already fallen down to the floor where they started getting eaten by bugs and small lizards while other parts of it rotted, releasing a strangely sugary and sweet fragrance into the air. Sifting through the ones on the floor to figure out which ones hadn't started rotting yet, he used both his eyes and his nose to pick a couple of ripe ones. Once he had found a handful of them, he found a nice spot in the shade of the tree and started eating. Trying to work down the appetite that had been building over the past few days, he thought about whether it was wise to return to the village or stick to his nomadic ways for a little longer.

The body reacts in such a way to where they are capable of withstanding so much. This technique makes it where the Throwing Specialist is incapable of being surprised attacked, a sudden second sense kicks in as their body screams out to them yelling at them telling them to move, duck, dodge or anything else within that manner. This works on whenever they are being attacked. This technique however has a major flaw. The user is capable of dodging only whenever the opponent's class is equal or lower to that of the rank of the technique they know. This means that a "D" Class user that knows this technique cannot use this against an opponent that is "C" Class or higher.

Eating more of the fruit that he had found, he came to the decision not to go back yet. There was still more that he could learn, and staying confined in the same village would just get in the way of that. Though he did not hate it in the village or hate being part of a village, his training process of the past months had made it hard for him to just return to his everyday life as a ninja. So as the afternoon turned into evening, Hamura had already created a sleeping spot for himself by digging into the sand and using his cloak as a sleeping bag. Being ready to settle in for the night and heading out again in the morning, he closed his eyes.

But suddenly, he felt a strange sensation moving through his body that told him that something was not right, that things were not as they should be, and above all else, that he was not safe where he was. As if by the basest of instincts, Hamura reacted to it and made his way from where he had been resting. Diving to the side with his cloak still around him and acting like a sleeping bag, he landed in the soft sand roughly half a meter to his side before several senbon got buried into the sand that he had managed to turn into a semi-decent sleeping spot.

Having no idea as to why anyone would choose to attack him within the land of wind itself, he figured that the deserts were just way too big for anyone to really be able to oversee all of it. The one attacking him might have been a wandering shinobi, maybe even several wandering shinobi, or someone might have seen him here and considered them a threat to their own wellbeing. There was even a chance that these were the same people he had warned the village about when he met them some months ago before he went to the valley of the great priest in order to train.

Of all the possibilities that rose in his head, the last one seemed to be the most sensible one by far, though it made him a bit pissed at the village. He had been away for such a long period of time, yet no one had done a single thing to see to the safety of this oasis, which was one of the few places of life and fresh water within several tens of kilometers of white and hot sands. One would think that they would have made more of an attempt at keeping it accessible and safe for the locals. But as he thought about it, his line of thought was broken when the same sensation washed over him yet again.

Dashing away a second time from a flurry of shuriken, he put his cloak on as it should be and wrapped it around his body as he wandered into the undergrowth and foliage. With the abilities of his cloak, he'd have a less hard time remaining hidden and would be given a few more seconds if not minutes to assess the situation and figure out where the attacks were coming from. Thinking of how his senses were even capable of doing this, and why he actually knew what it meant when they started to tingle, he would only have so much time to ponder on it before he'd have to face the problems right in front of him.

Sitting around for a moment, he could gradually feel his heart rate going down a bit, opening up a plethora of possibilities. Moving around in the darker portions of the oasis, finding the ones that were after him was not that hard once he had regained his composure and could accurately utilize his senses to focus on one thing, something that did not work as well when in his earlier fight or flight state of mind. Crouching through the undergrowth until he could clearly see the people that had attacked him not once but twice now, it was time to come up with a plan.

Locking himself onto their position, he started closing the distance more rapidly before dashing out of the shrubbery and revealing his position to the people that had been attacking him. Recognizing at least one of the people he had reported on to the village, it made sense that they had come through here again as it was likely one of the best routes through the desert as it provided shade, a place to sleep or stash items for later points in time and allowed people to at the very least drink or even eat somewhere. Though there were some potentially dangerous animals around, those should not cause that much trouble when left unbothered.

Considering that this was something these people knew well enough since they've been through here at least once before that he was aware of, he believed that they had probably made this trip many times before that, and at least twice since the time he had caught them smuggling goods around. Thinking of looking around and seeing whether there would be anything useful hidden that he might keep for himself, the first thing he would do was take care of the people that attacked him. As soon as he left the bushes and dashed out of his cloak, he was met with a certain amount of resistance, but nothing he couldn't handle on his own.

From what his eyes could see, there were exactly three people in front of him, including the man that had been through here before. Though what his eyes could not see, but could still be perceived by his ears and nose was a fourth person moving around the bushes where Hamura had initially disappeared from sight. Making use of this moment in order to attack the three, believing the fourth one to be the guy that assaulted him, he used one of his more powerful unarmed attacks in order to strike the guy closest to him in the chest, sending him backwards roughly five meters while hearing two of his ribs cracking upon the initial impact.

As the man hit the sand, Hamura did not need to see it to believe it as his ears told him everything he needed to figure out that this particular threat had been incapacitated. And so he moved on to the man directly next to him, wasting no time in trying to take out the guy that had been smuggling here in the land of wind for some time now. With an agile step, he moved in low, preparing to sweep the man off of his feet with a kick and properly taking him down once he hit the floor. But as he was about to make the move that should have taken the guy down, he experienced the same tingling sensation as before.

Now that he knew exactly what this meant, instead of going for the sweeping kick, he brought both feet together and dashed behind the man he was aiming to hit, listening as several projectiles flew past him. While behind his target, he firmly punched him into the back of his knees with both hands, causing the man to sink into a kneeling position. As he lowered himself, Hamura rose to his feet, looking over the man he had brought to his knees and over to the one that had thrown projectiles at him for a third time now. Venting his frustration by knocking the guy in the temple with his elbow, his face sank into the sand.

With two out of the four men down, he figured that the guys he had taken out were merely there to haul the goods and help the guy he had just knocked out in selling the merchandize. The guy who had been throwing weapons at him was likely some kind of hired muscle that was tasked with taking down potential threats they encountered along their trade route. Likely having considered Hamura to be one such threat, he had decided to take care of him as he was falling asleep. Had he waited until the boy slept, he would most likely have succeeded in killing him, which was exactly what made Hamura rather angry.
