For a time, there was drink and merriment. Richard was pleased that everyone was enjoying themselves, apparently young Fjord didn't want to wait for tomorrow. That was fine. He was tired from all the action, but didn't necessarily need to sleep just yet. It was good to see morale up, at least for a short time.
He took a Short Rest by the fire, relaxing for a few minutes and observing the scene. Another newcomer arrived, a fox type beastfolk dressed like some kind of high end prostitute, and kept company with Fjord and Satu. He wondered briefly how much she cost besides the free booze, but shook the thought away. Nothing wrong with the profession, but it was rude to make assumptions about people, in case you were wrong.
Leaving them to their revelry, he withdrew the ring he was given by the elfin girl in the Weald, staring at it in the firelight. He still didn't know if she had made it back safely, and that bothered him. In the whirlwind of action as he somehow ended up taking charge of the situation, he had forgotten to ask after her. He slipped it onto his ring finger on his right hand. It fit perfectly, like it was meant for him. It looked good. Felt good.
Then he pulled his lute into place from his back. He knew from before that it was enchanted, that it seemed able to somehow drive back the gloom that assaulted his mind, but not how to activate that magic properly, nor what else it could do. What he WAS pretty sure of though, was that it could play music like any other instrument. And what better way to accompany lamb and ale than with song?
