He stepped out of the village and into the sunlight, his eyes adjusted to the light as the artificial lighting of the cave network that is Kusa was not quite as bright as the real sun. The wind, blew past him, into the trees and rustled the grass around him. Leaves began to fall towards the ground as the wind ripped over the ground and around the teenager. His red hair tilted to his right as the wind pushed against it and he smiled, he would be going right along with the wind and thus would fly on the wind. He smiled and began to form handseels. His fingers flipped through the seals and then he began to feel an intense feeling in his back.
After a few moments a pair of white long wings flowed from his back and flapped powerfully as he jumped into the air. He looked out over the ground as he picked up altitude and speed. The plains of grass spotted by small lengths of wooded area and ponds and streams. The plains and rolling hills of grass were beautiful to behold. This was probably one of the most beautiful landscapes in the entire continent. He saw the Grass Country Capital in the distance, a tall fortress set on a hill of rolling grass surrouned by large wooden homes and buildings. He saw the grass towns, small villages of huts set in the peaceful fields of grass.
He was soon reaching the edges of the Grass country, his eyes looking out at Fire Country. He began to fly towards the he side, he had gotten to the edge of the country, he was in no means going to fly around it but he was going to make a few rounds around the eastern border of the country. His wings flapped a few more times, it had taken him much less time than it would have taken a walker or even a shinobi running. He smiled as he began to make a turn and saw people walking along the ground, they were just villagers carryin products to another village in order to trade.
Within a few minutes he was flying near one of the villages at the foot of the only true mountain in the country. A single mountain, tall and icecapped, surrounded by forest and at its feet a few villages clustered in order to mine ore from it and its depths. The entire mountain had small caves and chambers that had been carved out by miners that were now empty or held animals and bandits. It was one of the few areas in Grass where bandits could hide without getting caught. The Grass nin kept sharp eyes on this mountain and were the reason why Grass was still safe from these bandits who tried to take from villagers and merchants. He flew one time around the mountain and then landed. It was time for a little break. His wings folded back into his back as he walked into one of the smaller villages at the foot of the mountain.
He had some Ryo in his back pocket for a good meal at midday and it was about that time. He stepped into the small village and smelled the acrid smell of smoke. It seemed the village had been up for quite a while and people were up and about doing their daily business, mostly working a craft or tending to farms and the like. This part of Grass mostly kept alive due to the men of the village working in the mines to gather precious metals while the women worked on clothing and making meals and farming. Only sick, injured, old, or exceptional craftsmen stayed home from the mines.
As Tenshin made his way into the village he saw a few elderly women sitting around a fire knitting and talking. He smiled and waved to them. One of them barked something into the door and out ran a little girl. Blonde ponytails flailing in the wind and a little teddy bear under her arm.
"Mister Tenshin!"
She screamed as he ran up to the tall boy and grabbed onto his leg. She was about eight and wore a small pink and yellow dress with frills at the bottom and on the slaves. Tenshin smiled and patted her on the head,
"Hey, Tara, how are you? Everything go well about here today?"
She pulled away from him and her little lips began to flash up and down as she spoke quicker than any man could even comprehend.
"Well, Daddy is in the mines again, his leg healed after the rock fell on him...I told you that story right?" She stopped for just long enough to see his head begin to nod, "well he is off again, and I miss him...but now i get to see you. its been over a week since your last visit. Where have you been?"
Tenshin smiled as she began to breathe, finally giving him a shot to speak, "I was off on business. Nothing to bother you. Its sad that your dad is gone today, I was looking forward to speaking to him. Maybe I will come back in the evening some time. Well I am off to speak to Varina, alright?" He smiled and kneeled down, hugging the little girl and then pushed off to turn around and head deeper into town.
His feet trotted towards a large building in the centerr. Varina was the wife of the Mayor of the town. He was the coordinator of the mining project and she administrated the goings of day to day life. Their son was also growing into a competant doctor and trade administrator. Due to his being a craftsman he didnt need to go into the mines and Tenshin had taught him the basics of medicine so they owed him. Tenshin saw Varina before she saw him and he whistled,
"I have missed that beautiful smile" he shouted as Varina turned, the middle aged women beaming, "Tenshin!" she shouted as she hugged the boy, "It has been a long time. You did a good job in training Noru (her son) and we have no need of your services, thankfully. How is everything in Grass Village?"
"Wonderful, ma'am. I was wondering if I could buy a meal today. My runs have kept me busy, but I also get hungry when flying around all day!"
She smiled and nodded, "I would say that nearly everyone in the village owes you and that you could eat for free. But you would never accept it."
"Ive told you before, If i accept handouts I will be responsible for you guys losing money and thus I will feel like ive hurt what ive worked hard to help you with. But I apperciate the offer."
He smiled, kissing her cheek, and then heading out towards the village. He headed over to the bar and then stepped inside the small restaurant/bar that would be his meal for the day. He smiled and grabbed ahold of a seat and swung up to the bar. "A chicken leg, a bowl of spicy ramen, and a biscuit. Then a cup of tea and that will be all."
The old man behind the bar smiled, "Of course. How have things been, Mister Tenshin?"
Tenshin answered, "Working hard, and often tired but I am enjoying life. Nothing could be better. I love my job of guarding Kusa. It is what I plan on doing for the rest of my life."
He recieved the meal, ate it, drank, chatted with the bartender and then stepped back outside. He had spent too much time here. It was time to fly away again. He waved goodbye to everyone and walked off, before doing his handseals and soaring up into the sky again, right over the village and heard a chorus of cheers as he flew off into the distance back towards Grass village. Before long he was soaring in the distance and saw a training ground where he knew one of his old gennin friends would be training.
