Leaving the establishment and the city of Yozamu was a relatively easy venture. The three of them had entered, and the local thugs would have quickly heard that they were very capable of handling most persons of that nature, so aside from security watching on their exit, there would be no further harassment to the foreigners. At least nothing ordinary. Kininata felt a degree of relief being away from what clearly had been a sample of what his grandfather had been trying to artificially recreate, and glad for the company he had been keeping of late.

He would turn to look at the city, a place he had vague memories of from his early childhood, and felt relieved that it was not worse than he recalled... though it had not improved either. It was a place he felt was nice to visit from time to time, but had no desire to remain. And given the people that resided here still harboured some clear animosity towards him, as much as Amegakure no Sato, then visits in the future should be lessened.

'Well, the village should only be a twenty, thirty minute hike north of the city. Won't take long to get there. It was a fairly small place, maybe twenty homes, a few workshops. It was relatively close to a mine shaft, might still be in use.' He said, trying to bring back memories from his last visit, to recall faces. 'It should go relatively smoothly, with you hear.'

'We are doing well so far. Let's just hope it keeps up that way. Especially since we're at foreign grounds' observed the female. Being in disguise meant they could not rely on diplomatic immunity. Then again, the chances of becoming targets were smaller.

"Glad I could help. I want to meet your relatives as well. Not sure how he'll react to you being a married father though" replied Marii. There was a small smile on her face. Her voice sounded a bit more relaxed than earlier.

Her eyes glanced up at the skies. They were slightly clouded with a little sunshine. 'Looks like we got the weather on our side. Good thing we're heading into spring' observed the young woman. They kept walking up the hill that would lead them to the village.

'I wonder how the village is like. There are not many villages left in most countries. Especially the top five ones. Guess that's the result of urbanization' concluded the Raikage. She looked over at her loved one to see how he was doing.

"Glad I could help. I want to meet your relatives as well. Not sure how he'll react to you being a married father though" replied Marii. He expected it to change his uncle's view quite a lot, though not remove the issues between them. On the way there, he remembered something else.

'If I remember, there was a shrine for the Yuki-onna near the northern urban area of Yozamu. We could swing by there on our way back, say our prayers. We both know people that have been lost in this land. If you want to...'

As much as it did bring him pangs of anger, he did still care about his family lost here. His friends lost because of it. His brother did deserve someone to speak for his soul, for when he was still Kininata's brother.

After ten minutes further, they crested a small hill, looking down into a small valley where nearly two dozen buildings lay. Smoke could be seen faintly coming from a warehouse workshop building - where he recalled the foundry and smelting was done for this mining town. He recognised the larger structure of the village hall, the main road that ran through the centre of the village leading up to it, and the remaining buildings being either small local stores, supplied by the other villages, or homes. On the far end of the village, lay the target of their trip here.

'There it is. Hasn't changed since my last visit.' He adjusted his pack, ensuring his weapons were as stowed away as possible before resuming the walk with Marii. 'Let's go see my uncle and nephews.'

It would be another ten minutes before they would reach the outer buildings of the village, but they would see people moving around - small shopping stalls on the road with the owners homes behind them. Children running around, playing in some of the remaining snow as the weather changes. Then there was a face he recognised.

'Uncle Kini!' Came a yell from a young boy, around the age of eight; short brown hair, slight curls at the end of the hairtips, brown eyes, a little pale but otherwise reasonably proportioned for his age and size. The boy ran up excited to see him as the other children he had been playing with looked in a little shock.

'Hi Tsuro-san!' The red-haired man said as he knelt down and grabbed the boy, lifting him into the air and spinning him around. 'You must have grown a foot since I last saw you! And you're getting heavy!' He said, getting laugh and giggle from the boy. 'How's your dad? He still working at the forge?'

He noded in response, and then looked at Marii. 'Who's the pretty lady?'

Kininata looked at Marii, and then back at Tsuro. 'That is someone very special and close to me. You can call her Aunt Marii.'

They crested a small hill that provided them with an excellent view. The female saw about two dozen buildings in the valley. Smoke came out of the chimney on a warehouse building. Marii looked at the larger building with a more elegant structure. 'Probably the city hall or something similar' concluded the young woman.

"If I remember, there was a shrine for the Yuki-onna near the northern urban area of Yozamu. We could swing by there on our way back, say our prayers. We both know people that have been lost in this land. If you want to..." suggested Kininata.

"I want to. Bet my uncle will be happy for it" replied the Raikage in a low voice. There was a tinge of sadness in her eyes. Her uncle died when he was only a year older than she was now. His sacrifice had not been in vain fortunately.

Both shinobis walked through the small village. There were several local shops plus charming little houses. It reminded her of that village she went to on an "A"-ranked mission. 'I wonder how they are doing now. I hope they're not a ghost town now' pondered the female.

"There it is. Hasn't changed since my last visit. Let's go see my uncle and nephews." told the young man. She nodded as she walked with him. A few moments later, nephew number one appeared.

"Uncle Kini!" shouted a boy in the crowd of children. He sported short brown hair with slight curls at the end of the hairtips. His sepia brown eyes were as bright as his smile. Apart from the pallid complexion, the boy seemed healthy. He seemed to be seven or eight given his stature.

The redhead knelt down and grabbed the boy, lifted him into the air and spun him around. "Hi Tsuro-san! You must have grown a foot since I last saw you! And you're getting heavy! How's your dad? He still working at the forge?" inquired the male.

Tsuro nodded in reply. Suddenly, his eyes made contact with hers. "Who's the pretty lady?" inquired the child. The Chuunin looked at her, and then back at his nephew. "That is someone very special and close to me. You can call her Aunt Marii" told the man.

She cleared her throat. "Hello Tsuro-san. Pleased to meet you" greeted the young woman. "Nice to meet you too" replied the boy. He gave her a small bow, hitting his uncle's shoulder with his head.

"Sorry uncle" apologized Tsuro. The brunette could not help but to smile. 'He seems to have good manners and awareness. That's good. Children tend to mimic their parents after all' observed the female.

She thought of her boys back home. Ichiki already shared one favourite food with her husband. Shuji however, was not uncomfortable in his own company. Marii looked at the people around them. Was there a man here who resembled her husband or Tsuro?

After Tsuro's little headbutt and apology, Kininata smiled at him and put him down. 'Is you grandfather at home, or is he at the town hall?' He wanted to spend more time with his nephew, but he needed to ensure that this wasn't going to be the last time he could visit. Especially if he wanted his own children to meet Tsuro and the rest of the family.

Tsuro nodded and pointed towards the far side of town, towards where the town hall stood. 'Thanks Tsuro-san. I need to have a talk with your grandfather, but I will make sur eto come around and say hi to you later, ok?' The yong boy nodded, a little sadness in his look, but quickly turned back to his friends and ran off to play with them after giving Marii a goodby wave.

Kininata would start the walk over to the townhall. 'Keitaro Yugoji is a fairly proud man, has a strong sense of family. It's one of the reasons he had issues with me the last time I saw him. My grandfather, my brother... regardless of the reason, he couldn't agree with what I did.'

Kininata looked around as the building came into view. 'I'm hoping that after a few years, and knowing the life I lead now, he will be more accepting, more forgiving maybe. At least I can try to make amends.'

As they came close to the town hall, an older man stepped out of the building, maybe in his early fifties, garbed in clothes befitting an elder of a village. He had short greying hair with flecks of red still showing through, and deep ajde green eyes. The eyes of the older man glanced over and saw Kininata.

'Hello uncle Yugoji.' He said, giving a respectful bow towards him. The older man held a stare that held some anger, but something else.

'Newphew. Why are you here? and who is that with you?' Keitaro Yugoji asked, in a more demanding, commanding tone.

"Is you grandfather at home, or is he at the town hall?" inquired the male. The boy nodded while pointing at the city hall. 'Hm...so he works at the city council huh? That's a little interesting' observed the female. She glanced at the people passing them.

"Thanks Tsuro-san. I need to have a talk with your grandfather, but I will make sure to come around and say hi to you later, ok?" told Kininata. Tsuro looked a little disappointed. She could not blame him. It had probably been years since he had seen his relative.

"Bye Tsuro-san" told Marii with a small smile. She walked towards the city hall with her husband. "Keitaro Yugoji is a fairly proud man, has a strong sense of family. It's one of the reasons he had issues with me the last time I saw him. My grandfather, my brother... regardless of the reason, he couldn't agree with what I did" informed the young man.

Marii nodded as she listened to him. A part of her could understand given she was the contender for clan leader. However, a Kazeraikou who tried to kill one of their own was unheard of. The few exceptions who did acted in self defense. Or trying to defend someone else.

"I'm hoping that after a few years, and knowing the life I lead now, he will be more accepting, more forgiving maybe. At least I can try to make amends." told the man. "That's the most important thing. Especially since Tsuro-san will be our twins' second cousin" replied the young woman.

Suddenly, a senior man exited the city hall. He wore a rather formal garb that contrasted with the villagers. His short hair was taupe gray with auburn flecks. It was his eyes that made her own widen. They were nearly identical to the ones her loved one had.

"Hello uncle Yugoji" greeted the redhead. He gave him a bow to show his respect. "Nephew. Why are you here? And who is that with you?" replied Yugoji.

She noticed that his voice had a more commanding tone. 'Why is he - no. Hold on a little. He's not a shinobi. He does not know who I am' realized the Raikage.

First, the female took a deep breath while she steadied her nerves. Insulting a man who took pride in his work would equal a social death sentence. "My name is Marii. I am...married to Kininata. I'm pleased to meet you" greeted the Raikage.

She gave him a polite bow to show her respect. The brunette would straighten her back after the man gave her permission. 'I hope this is good enough. This is the fashion my grandmothers use for polite people' recalled the young woman. Her ice blue eyes glanced at the man before they looked at the building behind him. Staring was impolite after all.

Marii introduced herself, and Kininata took a somewhat more submissive stance than she would have seen him take with anyone publicly. 'Uncle Yugoji, I am here to try and make amends one more time. Not for my sake. For the sake of our children, so they can know of their family.' He would pause a moment, letting his words be absorbed by his uncle. The older man did show signs that he was surpised by the statement.

'Our children are not much younger than you grandchild Tsuro-san, both boys like him. I have not taken a life since the day I left here, and aside from protecting my family, I have not raised a hand in violence since. Marii is a good woman, kind hearted, strong, and an incredible mother. I don't want both of our families to suffer from never knowing each otehr because of my mistakes.'

Kininata slowly got down onto his knees, and lowered himself to a deep bow before the older man. 'Please don't let these children never know each other.'

Keitaro Yugoji stared down at the bowing Kininata, his gaze barely changed from the moment he set eyes on the young man. He took three careful steps around him, moving towards Marii. 'Marii-Chan. Tell me of your life. Of him,' he said, his eyes affixing to Kininata briefly as he spoke the words. 'My decision will be based on your honesty.' His commanding tone now mre defined, it was that of a head of a family, rather than someone of political or military power, a tone that Marii would be familiar with given her own background.

"Uncle Yugoji, I am here to try and make amends one more time. Not for my sake. For the sake of our children, so they can know of their family" started the male. He took a rather submissive pose. She noticed that the older man looked rather surprised by the statement.

"Our children are not much younger than you grandchild Tsuro-san, both boys like him. I have not taken a life since the day I left here, and aside from protecting my family, I have not raised a hand in violence since. Marii is a good woman, kind hearted, strong, and an incredible mother. I don't want both of our families to suffer from never knowing each otehr because of my mistakes" continued Kininata. He lowered himself to a deep bow in front of Keitaro.

"Please don't let these children never know each other" finished the young man. The man stared at his bowing nephew. His gaze barely changed. Next, the village elder took three careful steps around him. Marii felt a chill run down her spine when their eyes connected.

"Marii-chan. Tell me of your life. Of him. My decision will be based on your honesty." informed the male. The young woman took a deep breath as she re-arranged her thoughts.

She could not see or hear any enemy shinobis here. Besides, she did not have to tell him everything. "All right. I will tell you what you need to know. You deserve to know since we're family now" replied the Raikage.

"My father is a Kumogakure shinobi. My mother is from Amegakure. She moved to Kumogakure when she fell pregnant with me. I have several aunts, uncles plus cousins living in Kumogakure. We're very close" started the female.

"I got promoted to Chuunin right before turning 19. Funny thing is, I met Kininata at those exams. At age 21, I got promoted to Jounin. This was when I started to take further education. A shinobi career can be scuppered easily after all" continued the brunette.

Her ice blue eyes remained locked with his jade green ones. "I had been single for two years at that point. My ex decided to cheat on me. I decided to dedicate my time to train to become stronger. This was the time I met Kininata again" informed the young woman.

"We met at an onsen. Both of us realized that we were in love with each other. This was the start of our long-distance relationship. Having someone who loved me like he did made a huge difference. Firstly, my life was enriched in a way I could never imagine" admitted Marii.

"Having Kininata in my life made me stronger as well. I later became a Sannin, meaning I became more independent. What I needed was emotional support. This was what I was lacking. Or - until Kininata was able to move in with me" told the female.

"I got promoted to Raikage right before he moved in. We got married after we lived together for a few years. I hope this answers your question" finished the Raikage. She relaxed her stance a little, but kept her eyes steady. This was a very important event for her family.

Keitaro Yugoji listened to Marii, his eyes scrutinizing her stance, her tone, her very words as she talked of her life, of how the two met, of their life together. As she drew to a close, the older man started to walk slowly up to, and around to the left of Kininata. The red-haired man maintained his position, not looking up to meet his uncle's gaze.

After a moment, the elder stopped behind Kininata, his left hand reaching into his winter coat. He pulled out a kunai, though not one of any modern or normal design. The handle and pommel were of traditional size, but the blade was oddly designed - it appeared to be two halves of a kunai formed onto a small crossguard, with two curved points reaching forwards by half an inch. The kunai did not look designed to be thrown, but as a off hand knife for close combat. It was also old, given the marks and damage to the edge. On each half of the blade marked the symbol of the Hyouketsu family symbol.

'You seem to have found someone worth the effort.' The old man said, holding the kunai as a man with experience. 'I find her words to be truthful. This does not mean I will forgive or forget your crimes, nephew.' He raised his let hand, a posture of that of someone intending to strike. 'Why should I change my mind?'

Kininata raised his head slowly, followed by his chest to a more relaxed kneeling position. 'I'm not asking you to forgive or forget. I'm asking you to not punish the children we have because of it.'

The old man lowered his hand, and dropped the kunai to the side, falling into Kininata's line of sight. 'In one years time, I shall be stepping down as head of the family. Your cousin will take my place. At that time, I will announce that you are to be forgiven so the family can mend the bonds. Once you return, have a messenger send us the address where you and your family live, and we shall come to you. You may now take youe mother's kunai.'

Kininata bowed, tears foming at his eyes, and his hand slowly reached for his mother's kunai. He hadn't seen this since the day she died... his father having sent it to her father. When he had died, it was passed to Keitaro Yugoji. He could feel the touch of winter as his fingers gently wrapped around the grip, and he moved to slide it into his own coat. 'Thank you, Uncle Yugoji.'

The old man then turned to Marii, and smiled - it was a total opposite of how he had been, as though winter had broken into the heart of spring in an instant, warmth eminating from him like a midday sun. 'Raikage Marii-Chan. Welcome to the family. I look forwards to meeting your children in a year from now.' He then moved in to give her a warm hug.

The female felt uneasy when the older man scrutinized her. She knew why. This guy had more influence here than her. It was an unfamiliar feeling. Marii usually went undercover or got instant respect in many instances.

The female felt her jaw drop. It all made sense now. 'That symbol...it must be the Hyouketsu family symbol! That's why it looked familiar!' realized Marii. Her husband slowly reached for his mother's kunai while his relative looked at her.

The warmth in his eyes made her own widen in surprise. His eyes resembled dewy grass on a spring morning. Speaking of which - his smile was radiating with happiness. "Raikage Marii-chan. Welcome to the family. I look forwards to meeting your children in a year from now" inquired the man.

He reached forwards to hug her. She noticed he was at least six inches taller than her. However, Keitaro was not very fat or bulky. 'Thank Kami. He probably won't squash me' observed the Raikage.

She leaned in while raising her arms. He smelled like cedar wood, nutmeg, cinnamon and...white roses!? The female blinked as the male bent down. She managed to look above his shoulder. What she saw made her eyes go wide in pure surprise.

Standing between the two redheads was a copper haired woman dressed in a white gown. The gown was so long that it covered her feet*. She looked at the two men before looking at her. The Raikage just managed to give her a small nod. The other female gave her a wide grin.

She snapped her fingers before she turned her head towards her son. 'Looks like we're full circle' realized the young woman. Her head tilted a little downwards as the male let her go. "I-I look forward to see you too Keitaro-san. I am happy you want the best for Kininata" replied the brunette.

Kininata held the kunai in his hand for what felt like the longest moment. His memory flickered to when he was a boy, when the blade was cleaner, more intact. He recalled how he watched his mother used to flow chakra into water, freezeing it to fill the void and edge the metal, making it a long cold blade.

He felt a light, cold touch in the air. For a moment he brushed it off, his hand moving to place the kunai within his coat. He felt the breeze again... and a sound. It was soft, gentle in the sound of the breeze. There was something eerily familiar about the sound. He rose up to his feet, and moved to turn around. As he did he caught a glimpse of a figure. Only for a moment, as he turned away reflexively as his eyes caught it.

It was a lithe woman, an inch or so shorter than himself. What seemed like flowing copper hair just below their shoulders. Garbed in a pure white gown from shoulder to floor, feet obscured. He caught the eye - it was mostly hidden by the copper hair, but he saw the jade green gem of her eye. He didn't turn away in fear, but in confusion. That... that is... his mind was full of emotion.

He recalled a similar sensation years ago. He wanted to turn and look. He wanted to see her face one more time... and stopped himself. The fact she was here, meant something. It meant she approved of what he was trying to do. What he had been doing. Maybe this was the sign he had been looking for.

He felt the cold breeze once more; knowing what it meant, he turned to look at hi suncle and his wife. A tear in his eye rolled down his cheek, and he moved over to stand by his wife.

'I look forwards to seeing you and your family in a years time, Uncle. Marii-chan, shall we depart?' He smiled and reached out his hand to her. He had family, home and away. Home... and home.

The female let the older man go. Reuniting the Hyouketsu family was not the only reason coming here. Her husband had reconciled with his uncle as well. She glanced over at the male. There was a stray tear running down his face.

"I look forwards to seeing you and your family in a years time, Uncle. Marii-chan, shall we depart?" inquired the man. "Yes, let's go. It was nice to meet you Keitaro-san. I wish you all the best until we meet again" told Marii.

She gave him a polite bow before they left the small town. 'We still got one more meeting to go. This will be the hardest meeting. Something tells me it may reveal something nasty too. Oh well...I better not suspect the worst' concluded the young woman.

They reached the top of the hill after a short while. The Raikage looked across her shoulder for a moment. 'Stay put Tsuro and Keitaro. We'll meet again soon' thought the female. She turned her head forwards as they headed towards Yozamu.

"Yes, let's go. It was nice to meet you Keitaro-san. I wish you all the best until we meet again" told Marii.

She gave him a polite bow before they left the small town. He was so glad that this turned out well in the end. He was glad he made the right choice years ago - to lead the village, to cease being active as a shinobi, to focus on what he wanted in his life for a change. there had been doubts, there had been fears of if he was doing the right thing.

His marriage had taken the edge of his fears. His children had made his doubts small and faint. His uncles' acceptance - and that of his mother - had drained away the last of them. He still had his own demons to deal with, but he had no other weights bearing down on him.

He was finally what he wanted to be - a father, a husband, and to as much as he could be, a good man.

They reached the top of the hill after a short while. The pair looked back towards the small village, both having their remaining glimpse of the little place where their extended family lived, and then turned to return to Yozamu.
