Jyodai's house is a cozy little place that was probably once a farmer's house. The previous owner didn't say much about it before handing it over to the boy. Jyodai didn't ask questions either.
It's a mostly wooden house situated about half a mile inland and to the west of Degarashi Port, sitting on two acres of fertile but out-of-use land. It's a single floor, bathroom and bedroom with a roomy 'den' type of area. Jyodai would usually use this space for meditation. In the den is a pair of small but ornate wooden chairs and a table. Not that he was ever expecting company, but suprises do happen. Jyodai tended to keep to himself, and only ventured into the port if he was in need of a good meal or something to busy himself with when not training. A very quiet life really.
But that of course changed when he met a stubborn raven just outside Degarashi Port one day. She was part of a flock that was continually annoying residents for weeks. Well one day the people fought back, assaulting the birds and killing most of them. This particular raven fought her way into the street where Jyodai witnessed her fight off her pursuers, despite a broken wing and other injuries. Jyodai decided that she deserved to live, and took her away. Needless to say the people were less than approving. But Jyodai assured them that he would take care of the raven, and if anyone tried to touch her...he would kill them. Not a complaint after that.
Jyodai sat in front of the bird, still recovering but patched up. He crossed his arms and leaned forward, squinting at her. The particular flock she belonged to was unique. For one, they all have bright red eyes. They were also very intelligent, often playing pranks on the wary. This particular raven has long tail feathers that are tinted red at the very ends. She stared right back at him, unblinking.
"I'll call you Akai." Jyodai said with a satisfied nod.
She let out what could have been a disapproving CAW! and ruffled herself into a sleeping position. Jyodai smirked and retrieved a bag of almonds he was hiding behind him.
"Found these over in town earlier. I was going to eat them but you can have them if you want."
Jyodai spilled a few of the almonds out into his open hand and held them out to the raven. She stared at them, uncertain, for a few moments. Then she glanced at Jyodai's blank face. With a sudden hop, she plucked one of the almonds from Jyodai's hand and turned away. Jyodai heard the sounds of her beak crushing the almond and laughed lightly. He got up and ran to his rickety cabinet, drawing out a single wooden bowl. He dumped the almonds into it and sat it a few feet away from the raven. She glanced at it and turned away from him again.
"Fine then. But i doubt you'll get as good a treat outside. Especially with the whole town wishing for your death and all."
With that, Jyodai went to his room. He smirked when he heard the frantic crunching of the raven accepting his gift.
