The sun slowly rose as it peeked over the dim horizon to reveal a desolated town known as the Hidden Mist Village. Bodies of drunkards lay stretched out in the middle of the streets. Their breath heavy with alcohol and their body wretched with the smell of corrosion and death; whether or not they were alive was unknown. The streets marred with motionless bodies and stray animal remained silent except for muffled cries of newborns as they lay abandoned in trashcans and brothels. It was a brisk and rare morning. The usually mist of the village remained thin and the warm light of the sun shone brightly on the land. It would prove a good day for tanning the pale, training the weak, and growing frail plants deprived of solar aid.
The squeak of an old wooden door cracked the silence of the tranquil morning as a young boy opened the door of his home and stepped into the streets he was home to. His azure hair hung loosely down the back of his head while the metal plates on his black gloves gleamed in the sunlight. The Hidden Mist Village insignia was bore on them showing that this tall young man was a ninja of some sorts. His azure eyes were filled with an unconditional passion that was rarely seen in a place such as this. However, he wouldn’t be spending his time here this morning. He quickly but silently moved towards the roof of a crumbling building. The structure was riddled with holes and any drastic actions would cause it to collapse. Shinji pushed gently off the building to avoid destruction and flew high into the air. His azure eyes scanned the area as if searching for something.
“Yes, there it is.” The boy said to himself as his eyes locked onto a vacant lot. There was nothing special about this lot except for a small mass of water which rested in the center of the dirt circle. The area was surrounded by a white picket fence which paint was beginning to peel off. The fence itself was beginning to give way to old age. It looked as if it was from the first making of this village, but that was impossible, however, one couldn’t doubt such a thing.
Shinji landed in the center of the small pool. He stood a top it and looked down into the deep abyss which he’d soon embrace. He formed the rat hand seal before he closed his eyes and slowed his breathing channeling his chakra so that he may perform the Jutsu. First he focused on the lungs and mouth and eased his chakra into them letting it flow naturally. His breathing rate steadied and he relinquished his water walking technique so that his body may fall into the pool.
His form remained constant as he slowly sunk into the abyss. He opened his mouth and as expected he could breathe within the water. He tried speech and breathed in and out as if he was above surface. Suddenly a pain became to pulsate from his ears which were beginning to suffer from the depth he was sinking into. This, however, marked the next part of mastering this Jutsu.
“Alright focus Shinji this is the easiest part. You’ve already got the breathing down now all you need to do is focus your chakra into your ears and eyes.”
Shinji made another slow breath and channeled his chakra into his ears. He formed a thin coating within both ears so that it will protect him from any further pain. Slowly the throbbing lessened and in a few seconds the pain which pulsated from his ears diminished. Shinji made a soft smile at his success, but he wasn’t done yet. He had to mold his chakra into a protective coating for his eyes as well. He slowly opened his eyes, but when he did all he could see was blue chakra. He closed his eyes and his smile ended.
“Too much.” He thought to himself before lessening the amount of chakra so that he’d be able to see. “Alright, I hope it works this time.”
Shinji opened his eyes and though he was several feet below water he was greeted by something beautiful. He found himself floating in an illuminated room which consisted of a numerous amount of glowing plants. He’d never seen underwater plants such as these, but at the tip of their thin green leaves rested small luminescent bulbs of light which shone in the dark abyss. They produced a beautiful pale light and Shinji slowly reached out to grasp one before stopping to think, “I’d rather not mar the beauty I see here. I doubt that many will journey to this place so I just pray others will appreciate this scene as I do, and in consequence refrain from the destruction of the aesthetic.”
Shinji looked back up at the faintly shining surface and began a brisk swim towards it. Suddenly, however, the technique ended and Shinji realized that he’d been beneath the surface for nearly twenty minutes. His swimming accelerated as a he rapidly swam for the surface; his lungs screaming for oxygen. He shot through the surface flying onto the dirt which surrounded the lake. He breathed exasperated as he rapidly inhaled and exhaled gasping for air. After about a minute his breathing began to return to slow and the soaked child sat at the edge of the small body taking of his shoes and socks so that he may rest his feet in the cool, refreshing water.
