The time it takes to react to an attack is essential. If you take one second to react, you have five more seconds to counter it. If you take two seconds to react, you have four, and so on and so forth. Susumu based everything off of a six-second time base. If he took six seconds to attack then he had no time left over to do anything else. That wasn't really a problem, but the quicker he could react to an attack the faster he would be able to counter against that attack. This, the last phase of training, would teach him just how essential it was to react against attacks. He had called upon some regular villagers of the Snow Village to come out and hide in the trees of the forest with basic weapons like kunai and shuriken. They had complied, mostly because Susumu was a ninja and therefore basically demanded respect from them.
Stepping into the forest, Susumu still wasn't exactly sure how brutal this was going to be so he was prepared to extend bones or leap whenever he would need to do so. As soon his both feet were in the forest a kunai was launched straight for Susumu's head. Reacting slower than what he should've, Susumu tried to leap out of the way, but the kunai still skimmed across his shoulder. It ripped straight through his robe and created a small cut. “Damn it,” he whispered to himself before cautiously approaching the kunai laying in the snow. He picked it up, but as soon as he did three shuriken were launched straight for him. Susumu managed to block the first two and threw the kunai at the last spinning star, nailing it against one of the trees.
Two windmill shuriken came flying, criss crossing over each other as they did, cutting through the air with ease. Timing this perfectly, Susumu jumped to the side, but pointed his right hand at the side of one of the windmill shuriken. He fired off five finger bullets. The bullets hit the closes windmill shuriken and glided into the other one, knocking both of them to the ground. The sound of the metal hitting on the snow was barely even audible. Susumu quickly relocated himself so that his position wouldn't be completely compromised. He had rallied up a lot of people so he wasn't sure how long this was going to last. Good thing none of them could just jutsus, otherwise Susumu would be really screwed over.
Walking deeper into the forest, Susumu suddenly heard a bunch of shifting noises above him as he twirled around, trying to figure out the exact location of all the noise. It finally clicked in his head. The noises were the people preparing themselves to attack him. They had, whether they meant to or not, lured him into the middle of the forest, which would be the most vulnerable for him since there were lots of trees. They would provide cover, but they were also too hard to get around. Quickly, Susumu pulled a bone out of his shoulder and went into the second dance he had learned. He twirled around as arrows, kunai, shuriken, and more windmill shuriken were shot at him from every direction. Time slowed down just so that Susumu would be able to destroy all of these things.
Using a body flicker, Susumu knew that this dance was made just for the user to weave in and around his opponents, even if those opponents happened to just be basic weapons. He jumped all around the air, kicking off of trees in order to smack the weapons away with the bone sword. His feet only touched back down upon the ground maybe twice during this entire ordeal. He cut arrows in half, pinned shuriken and kunai into trees, and deflected windmill shuriken. By the time his body flicker was over, Susumu was surrounded by weapons. In truth he had only been touched by a blade once. His blood was still dripping against the ground. “Finished.”
