A mere blur dashed through the village, silvery orbs searching for the mine that the mission told him of. Apparently, workers were isolated within the collapsed debris. Itaru wanted to arrive at the site quickly, hopeful of there being absolutely no deaths at the location. Would the mission be a failure if Itaru allowed a worker to die? Whatever might have been awaiting him at the mine, he wasn’t willing to waste any time.
Finally the mine shafts were in view now. The Chuunin looked up towards the sky, taking note of where the sun was currently set. He would use it as a clock device, and by the end of the mission, he would understand how long it took him to complete this mission. At Itaru’s feet, dirt began to build up as he came to a skidding halt at the site.
“Please, Stone Shinobi, you need to help; there’s still workers trapped inside the mines.” A villager’s icy cold fingers took Itaru’s upper arm in their grasp. Itaru merely pulled his arm free from the hold, and he approached the collapsed shaft. There was no possible way inside, at least from where Itaru was standing there wasn’t. He would need to find another way, and it only took him moments to find a solution.
Turning his head, Itaru looked over his shoulder at the workers and villagers alike. “Stand back.” He instructed those who stood around the area Itaru had situated himself. Everyone quickly obeyed the Chuunin’s command, and once Itaru was assured nobody would be too close to get hurt by his Jutsu, Itaru straightened his figure and set his eyes on the rubble before him.
Hand signs commenced, running swiftly through the alternation of his fingers, and Itaru could feel his charka responding well to the seals. Now, before he would complete his technique, he needed to remind those who stood behind him of one important detail. “Everyone needs to stand clear of this area, as I will be blasting an entrance through here once I’m within the mines. I will need the opening for the workers inside to escape through.”
Once Itaru was assured everyone understood with several nods, his body shot directly downward, creating a crater within the foundation that was approximately the same size as him in diameter. Itaru wandered through the dark soil, heading straight towards the mines. He kept his aural sharp, waiting to hear the voices of the workers that were trapped inside of the shafts.
This didn’t take too long, and Itaru began to borrow himself upward until he pulled his upper body through the dirt. The vocals above were silenced almost instantly, and the Chuunin finally slipped through the opening in the soil. He didn’t bother to dust himself from the contamination, and he instantly turned back towards the same direction he traveled. Now he needed something powerful enough to create an opening through all the rubble.
Itaru quickly thought of just the technique for the job too. Dragon, dog, monkey, tiger, dragon, rat. The hand seals were completed accurately and without a moment wasted. “Please stand back.” Itaru’s voice warned the workers, and Itaru began to concentrate an immense amount of charka into his right hand. Now all that was left was unleashing this technique: Ranpugan.
He wasn’t entirely sure if this technique was too powerful or not, but he would soon find out. He put his faith in the villagers and workers outside the collapsed shafts, just hoping they had taken his warning seriously. Flashes of lightning sparked from his palm, and he thrust his arm towards the debris. How smoothly would this go?
The A-ranked Jutsu created just what Itaru hoped for, and the sun’s beams were allowed to shine light into the collapsed mines. The workers who were previously trapped within dashed out, but Itaru needed to be sure these were all of them. Itaru joined the workers quickly, and he questioned, “You all should know who you work with. Is anyone missing?” He demanded to know. Leaving a worker trapped inside would surely mean the mission would fail.
The workers spoke and looked amongst themselves, and a particular worker was the one to speak up. “Yes, two of them at least.” He informed Itaru, who waited for anymore responses. There was none, and Itaru gave a single nod to them in response. He would now have to venture further into the mines, and find these two workers.
“You’re all sure there’s only two.” He needed to be assured again, and when there were no objections to his statement, he returned to the shafts. He would need to repeat his Underground Fish Projection technique, and he completed the same hand signs once again. Into the ground he returned, and he borrowed his way through the tough soil. His ears attempted to pick up any sort of cry for assistance, but so far, there were none.
The Chuunin had created such a tunnel, he was beginning to struggle for oxygen. It was just at the right moment though, and in the distance, he could indicate voices. He followed them, and he was beginning to feel light-headed at this point, but he wouldn’t stop his search until he found the sources. At long last, he created an opening.
As he stepped up onto ground level, he used his gifted eyes to clearly see through the darkness. Once he did so, he identified the two workers that didn’t escape with the others. They both ceased to speak amongst themselves, and Itaru placed one hand on one of their shoulders. He led them toward the large tunnel he created, and he assisted one after the other into the hole. “Follow the tunnel, and you’ll find your way.”
Neither of them bothered to argue with Itaru’s instructions, and after the second worker disappeared within the hole in the ground, Itaru channeled the chakra within his right hand again. It was time to unleash Rapugan a second time. Itaru completed the hand signs that were unique to this technique, and he snatched his right wrist with his left hand.
After he readied the technique, he blasted a large opening within the collapsed mines, and quickly found his way into the opening, but he was quite a distance from where the other workers were. He climbed a lengthy distance from a gathering of boulders, but with his balance and agility, he was on the ground within a few seconds. Now it was time to find the cause of the destruction. Itaru walked around the mines, examining it up and down with his eyes.
However, from the outside, he saw absolutely no issues. That is, until he noticed tracks in the soil that headed east, down a path that traveled between jagged boulders. Itaru thought of this to be a strange path, since there was absolutely no reason to travel in that general direction. The village was located in the opposite direction, and all that Itaru could see in the distance, was a forest.
Now that he had saved the workers from the rubble, the mission also called for Itaru to find the reason that the mines had failed to support the structure. Itaru pumped chakra into his feet as he dashed toward the east. He glanced at the sun high above, and he already noticed it was beginning to set. If the sun set completely before Itaru had found the reason for the mines’ collapsing, he would need to use his eyes to find it in the darkness.
All that would do was set him back to completing the mission, so he wanted to find it as soon as possible. All Itaru really needed to do was follow the footprints in the soil, but when he ran into a grassy foundation, he was left to wonder where the steps would go now. This wasn’t too hard to find out. Since the prints were so new, there were still small indentations in the long grass.
Itaru then began to follow this new form of footprints, and he soon noticed what seemed to be a small shack. From the looks of it, it had to be just recently built. Itaru quickly used his Hidden Camouflage technique to keep himself secret, and he approached the poorly built shack. He kept quiet, and he walked up to the window to peer inside.
Then he understood everything completely; these thugs were the cause of the mines collapsing. But what reasons did they have? Surely some sort of money management had to be involved, just as it always seemed to be. Itaru threw his body threw the glass window, shielding his face and head. He rolled across the grounds, and after he drew his kusari-gama, he revealed himself.
The thugs looked surprisingly at Itaru, and coward to the other side of the tiny room. “Explain yourselves, and keep it honest, for if I even get the smallest impression either of you are lying, I will simply end your life where you stand.” Itaru’s voice was deep and threatening, which was something a bit new to what was common of him. Usually Itaru’s voice was calm and well kept. He simply wanted the mission to end.
His threat to kill either of them was a lie in itself, since he knew he needed to return them to the Stone Village unharmed for the most part. Itaru was patient to waiting for them to explain how and why they committed such a deed. The moment he figured he had all the information he needed, he looked around the small structure.
His eyes caught sight of a long rope; just what he needed. After forcing the criminals to bind together each other’s ankles as tightly as possible, keeping only little slack for them to walk. This would keep t hem from running off, and then Itaru would tie a powerful knot that constricted their wrists, which was tightened behind their backs. Now Itaru was sure they wouldn’t be escaping, and now all he needed to do was present them to the assistant.
