The moon's pale rays shone through the bare branches of the surrounding woods, reflecting eerily off the swirling mist that constantly covered the island. His Akumu mentor had brought him out here to learn what he had described as the first step into the stealthier aspects of the clan. As was their custom they were meditating clearing the mind of unnescecary thoughts.
His mentor, Kuro, spoke, "Ishido, you have learned how to step from shadow to shadow, in reality the technique you are about to learn should have come first. In assasination the whole idea is to not be spotted, should you fail in that regard it is best to not be recognized. This technique will help you do avoid recognition." Ishido had been listening carefully, "You intend to tech me how to use the dark mask then?" Kuro was suprised, "Yes, though I thought we kept that technique fairly secret. "Ishido smiled, "Anything can be found in a book, but no matter I do wish to learn the technique so if you don't mind?" His mentor should not have been suprised Ishido was quite often buried in a book. "Right first you must reach out with your chakra and feel for the darkness."
Ishido relaxed his body, gathering up his chakra he released a fine mist of it from all over his body. He had long ago learned how to sense the darkness with his dark ki. His mentor could see that Ishido had no problems with grasping the darkness. "Ishido grasp the darkness with your chakra and mold it to your face, a handsign might help you with this." The young genin's face grew grim, he knew this would be the harder part, the darkness was not like chakra, easily molded to his will. Darkness shrank from light hiding in nooks and crannies where light could not touch it, pulling it out into the light would be no easy task. He wisely decided to add some more chakra to his ties on the darkness. He slowly interlocked his fingers to form the snake handseal, focusing deeply he pulled the darkness out of it's hiding place.
At first the darkness came easily he felt it shrinking back against the light but he was still stronger than it. The swirls of darkness were but inches from his face when they snapped. What had been a cakewalk become a turbulent to even hold the darkness where it was. To the outside observer it would appear that the cloud of darkness was merely standing still by the boy's own command, however on the inside Ishido was frantically molding his chakra down to the connections and re-cementing them. However his chakra control had been sloppy and he used much more than he had needed. Ishido pulled the mask to his face and formed it perfectly. However he was not done with this technique. He had used far to much chakra and was now feeling the fatigue that came with it.
Kuro despite Ishido's slip was immpressed, many of the Akumu took days to master this technique yet Ishido was set to master it in but a few hours. Now he spoke, " Ishido... rest for now we will finish this technique when you are recovered." Ishido was gratefull, laying down he dozed off into a light sleep.
He was awoken by his mentor's voice, "Ishido, we only have a few more hours of darkness you have to get up and try again." Ishido rose, he was not one to slack when there was work to be done. His mentor spoke again, "Now try it again with less chakra." Ishido reached out grasping the darkness with strong bonds of chakra and pulled it towards himself. Whenever he felt small tears in his connections he would mold small pulses of chakra to repair the damage. Before he realized it the mask had formed on his face. He had done it! Smiling he turned to his tutor, "That has to be a record." Kuro knew the boy was correct but was reluctant to show it, if the genin became to cocky nothing good would come of it. "Ha! Black Walsh mastered it in half an hour. Keep dreaming boy you're not even done with this technique yet." Ishido was shocked. "What haven't I done?" Kuro wasn't surpised that Ishido didn't know of this stage, it was something that usually required much more practice and was not even neccesary. "Ishido, your creating the connections from all over your body and as such the darkness is sticking there too."
Ishido, looked down at his darkened hand and merely replied, "Oh..." Kuro began to speak, "You need to be able to..." But he was interrupted by a slightly irritated Ishido. "Yeah only the face I get it." Without waiting for a response from Kuro Ishido began molding the chakra out from his head, attaching it to the shadows and pulling it around his face. Soon the mask had been formed without any residual darkness.
