The art of doton jutsu had always eluded the kunoichi, perhaps even more than the suiton that she had always dreaded. For whatever reason, doton had never been as large a priority for Hanakora children to learn as suiton, though Hotaru guessed the whimsy and versatility of water was more the “style” of the flower clan. Now that she was able to pull water out of thin air, perhaps she would work towards a mastery in doton. With almost no instruction given to her on the subject from her home, she would need to once again turn to the tomes she had “rescued” from the grand library.
Flipping the chestnut cover of the book open, her fingers ran along the worn pages of the text titled “No Stone Unturned…” She wasn’t feeling particularly dangerous at the time, so she would stay with the lower ranked techniques until she had established some sort of basis on which to begin more difficult training. Thumbing past a few useless techniques and ones she had already mastered, she came across one she found a bit interesting. It was a rather simple technique and one used in so many other jutsu, she figured it was best to pick this one up first. Titled “Mud Field Technique” this jutsu did just what its name implied, turned the desired area into a thick and unpleasant mud.
She had never minded getting dirty as a child, and the fact that her normal ivory kimono had been abandoned gave her no excuse to get a little dirt on her hands. Studying the handseals in the book, she would perform them once she had committed them to memory and practiced them a few times. After a cleansing breath, she would attempt the jutsu for real. Completing the complicated dance of seals, chakra of both suiton and doton nature would flow from her body. Combining the two different types of chakra was something she had always done, but this time, they would need to be combined without becoming one entity. Her eyebrows knit in concentration as she strived to keep the two elements separate.
The energies mixed and flowed from her chakra coils and accumulated in her hands. With steady and controlled breathing, she had managed to amass quite a bit of doton and suiton chakra in her palms without forming the mokuton element. “Deido Nohara.” She proclaimed to no one, calling for the technique to finally begin. Bending down and placing her hands on the ground, she released the chakra from her palms into the earth below. As the energy mingled with the existing earth, it began to transform into the gooey mud she had sought. Keeping the chakra flow steady, a wave of mud formed in front of her. After the flooding of the area finally finished, a large square of mud had been created. With dimensions of 10 meters by 10 meters, she had succeeded in completing the jutsu with just one attempt.
