(OOC: I know next to nothing about making a building, so don't be surprised if my character does something wrong or leaves things out.)

Upon reaching the construction sight for the new herbology institute, Mikio slowed to a halt from his earlier running and took in the scene. It seemed as if the only the skeleton of the structure was set up, there didn't seem to be much of anything else done. Well, he would have a lot to do at least, it didn't seem that he'd have to worry about getting bored with so much work to be done. Civilians could be seen walking around and slowly doing various tasks, the speed at which they were working was close to a stand still. "Well, at least we know why they called in for help, right Gilligan?"
The black and white feathered bird didn't bother to respond, it just continued to fly around and ignored everything at the moment. Mikio shook his head slightly at his pet and walked over to towards where the majority of the workers were gathered. After receiving instructions on how to do the various tasks that he was assigned, he set off to work on building the brick walls first. How would he be able to construct a roof or set up the interior wood without that anyway?
The location of each wall was already marked by the foundation that covered the area that the structure would be on top of, at least he didn't have to worry about any of the measurements. Gilligan followed its owner and watched curiously as he begun to lay down the first layer of bricks, with some mortar placed in between them. Compared to the pace that everyone else was working at, he was working much faster, but that wasn't very surprising considering that he was trained in speed. Once he was done with the seventh layer of bricks, some movement near his feet caught his attention.
On the ground beneath his feet, there was a small mouse that was scurrying around, apparently looking for food or something. A rather loud squawk could be heard as Gilligan eyed the mouse with a predatory glint in its orange eyes. A smirk formed on Mikio's face as he looked back down at the mouse and picked it up by the tail, ignoring its squirming as he met the bird's gaze for a moment. The only warning given for what happened next was a single, loud word. "Catch!" The other workers around watched, slightly disturbed as he chucked the rodent into the air.
Panicked squeaks could be heard as the mouse soared through the air, but they were quickly silenced as his bird caught the furry animal and crushed the small bones between its talons. Landing on a nearby pile of bricks, the bird set down its mean and then ate it. The construction workers choose to ignore what had just happened, simply continuing their assigned tasks and not thinking about the poor little mouse again. "Good boy Gilligan, perhaps I can teach you some more tricks as well?" The boy's voice was laced with sarcasm, making it quite obvious that he wasn't being serious.
Gilligan, however, wasn't that familiar with human emotions, so he just tilted his head to the side in a confused manner. "Oh yeah that's right, you've never listened to me despite you being my pet for how many years now?" Mikio laughed lightly as the bird appeared to only get more confused, finding it amusing that the animal actually tried to figure out what he was saying. "How about you make yourself useful while your here instead of just staring? You could get me some more bricks with your feet or something."
Mikio was well aware that his pet didn't know what he had just said, so he demonstrated what he wanted Gilligan to do. Since he didn't have bird feet, he used his fingers to represent talons and showed the animal how it could help out. After about the fifteenth time of him repeating the demonstration, his pet finally caught on and began to try it. The bird wasn't able to lay the bricks on completely straight of put down mortar, but its owner helped with both of those. Whenever a brick was crooked, he simply moved it into the correct place and he took care of laying down all of the mortar.
As the bird got the hang of moving the bricks between the two places, it started moving faster and even tried being faster than its owner. Mikio realized what they were doing and smirked, there was no way he'd let an animal beat him. The two started a sort of competition to see who could set up the most bricks, with the human at a disadvantage because he still had to correct the animal's mistakes. Just because he wanted to win didn't mean that he'd let the job get sloppy, it'd look bad if he screwed up on his first mission.
By the time the brick was set up around the exterior of the foundation, the construction workers were simply staring at the duo in disbelief, how could anyone work that fast? The checked on the wall and noticed that there weren't any mistakes either, which made it even stranger for them to get done in such a short amount of time. Mikio was laying down on the ground, breathing heavily and trying to regain the energy that he had just spent on constructing the walls. Gilligan was perched on top of his head, also resting from all of the work, even ninja birds need rest sometimes.
Noticing another mouse walking by, the young ninja picked it up and simply gave it to his pet, not really feeling like throwing it this time. Gilligan lazily ate the small animal and continued to just sit on its owners head, ignoring the stares that the construction workers were giving them. A few moments passed before a condescending voice rang throughout the air, accompanied by a smug smirk. "You know I won, right?" The animal couldn't tell what exactly was said, but it still pecked at the boy a couple times because of the tone that he used. The red head chuckled at his pet's antics, who knew that birds could be fun?
