Before meeting Ickichumo in a marked spot upon the map that the older nin had given to Uesugi, the young ninja was under orders to return home to gather the katana that he had inherited from his father. Rummaging through his old things finally Uesugi came to the black lacquered sheath that held his family heirloom within it. For a long time he sat cross-legged surrounded by a mountain of his now strewn clothing and other paraphernalia staring intently at the blade as he had done since he was a child. From it a gathered a sense of ease that he couldn’t comprehend as a child and the only memory that he could associate it with was the warm embrace of his mother, never anything having to do with his father. After some time he stood up and went to where Ickichumo had designated that they meet for the training,
“I’ve seen you using the Shunshin no justu quite skillfully for your age. I mean it’s not often that a Genin like you has an understanding of the technique…” he began as he walked towards Uesugi and gently removed the weapon from his grasp,
“…but I wonder how you would fair against a weapon in a REAL fight” Ickichumo mused aloud as he turned towards Uesugi with a wide eyed stare. Obvious thoughts of violence settled on Ickichumo’s face as he unsheathed the katana and struck out at Uesugi in one swift, fluid movement that almost resembled that of a dance. As the vertical slash struck the ground where Uesugi had previously been standing, the lanky youth’s image reappeared and he wheeled around only to find Ickichumo already upon him with another strike,
But why?! What have I done? he wondered as he poured chakra into his limbs and instantly disappeared towards a thicket in hopes that he could away from Ickichumo. Shivering as he crouched in the growth, he struggled to mute his breathing as he heard the cruch of the Chunnin’s footsteps in the grass just outside the bush that he was trembling in. Why had the training suddenly turned so dangerous? Perhaps Ickichumo actually planned upon slaying the Gennin for the sake of some unknown vendetta.
