Two gaunt figures would be found trekking haplessly through the muck that was a well known trait of Mizu no Kuni and their faces would be wrought with the desire to give in to their weariness; however some unseen faith or force, for it was hard to tell which, would be forcing their beaten figures onwards. The smaller figure in the shape of a half naked boy would glance at his taller counterpart as if looking for acknowledgment of some sort though the larger man to give some sort of direction. The larger counterpart would not glance towards the boy instead they would be focusing upon each step as if the step in itself required an immense amount of concentration, the likes of which could not be interrupted with the trifles of a small boy. In apparent understanding the boy would cease to look at the larger person for a time at least until both came to a stop within the omnipotent mist, it seemed to be everywhere and clouded everything.
“Oi, Uesugi” Ickichumo would say with a casualness that was tinged with worry, “…eh…try that jutsu again I think I just saw the top of a gate a while back…” he would say while tapping his chin slightly in a serene attempt to recall what exactly he’d seen.
“Uh…” the response would come from Kenchu before he would leap into the air delivering an angry kick to the man’s head flooring him on the hard packed earth, “…stupid sempai…” he would grumble before walking over and kicking them felled man several times in his stomach.
Finally the playful brawl between the two shinobi would come to an end with both of them heaving a heavy sigh as Kenchu would prepare to perform ‘Sonar’ yet another time. He wouldn’t be expecting much as his hands slipped agilely to form the hand seals of the ‘Bird’, ‘Boar’, and ‘Ox’ respectively. He would end with a flourished clap that emitted thin, wire-like waves of sound in every direction from his body illuminating the world that resided behind his closed eyelids in brilliant silver light. The sounds were projected into images by the chakra channeling through the inner lining of his ears; Jigoku no mimi, the Hell’s ears jutsu. Using this whatever objects the wave would strike became observable through the sound produced and now he would wait as the sound waves made a quick pass over the area roughly the size of two football fields. Suddenly he would become aware of a hulking wall only a few feet from where they were standing and he would step back uncertainly while craning his neck upward to stare at the precarious cap on the top of a gate like figure.
“Sempai…” he would murmur as the man would have followed his example staring up to notice that it was indeed the very top he had referred to seeing only seconds ago and the jutsu that Uesugi had activated went unnoticed as it would become dispelled by its master’s lack of attention.
The two would step through the mist and come to stand within a few paces of the entrance to Kirigakure, their home village. They had made it back.
