His footfalls grew heavier as the jog continued on and he felt his chakra waning, but the feeling wasn’t as terrible as it was the first time that he’d gone out for a run so he dealt with it gritting his teeth through the pain hoping that he wouldn’t get attacked while he was in such a pitiful state.
For some reason that the boy couldn't understand it seemed that no matter how much trouble seemed to come up in his path and he was having to deal with it when performing a difficult task, he’d always managed to push further than he expected because his will refused to let him give up. Another footfall in the mud brought more of the soggy earth swelling up around his ankles attempting to bind him, but the determined eyes of the Genin remained glued in the direction straight ahead as he struggled to push his feet into the ground knowing that it would prepare him for the obstacles he would be facing in the future. Again Kenchu felt the physical pain of the lactic acid spreading through his thighs and he even felt the usual sense of pity that told him to give up the task because it was too impossible, but there was also something more. There was emptiness within him that he had always felt, but he never felt it as deeply or as intensely as he was feeling it now,
"How can I continue on like this...?" Kenchu wondered.
His body responded to his self doubt by doubling its weight once again and Uesugi’s knee dropped nearly into the dirt on his next step and the only that kept him from falling to the murky floor was because he stuck his hands in front of him to counter the fall.
Now that his steps had become even more uneven and lopsided than before leading him to believe that this time whether it was through some terrible assassination or simply due to exhaustion, he’d meet his end out here in the harsh mist of Hidden Mist. With the young boy’s guilt pushing down him with such passion that it should have led him to give up there was some part of his being that refused to give in to these defeatist attitude feelings that kept anchoring down him his soul; in truth it was the most alive part of Uesugi. It was the part that became excited in the thrill of battle, the part that filled up with pride once he’d mastered a difficult technique; it was the part of him that longed to maintain the order of the shinobi world. Instead of focusing on the physical pain that he was feeling, Uesugi decided that he would focus upon this feeling as he planted his left foot into the mud and pirouetted back towards the camp site so that he could get back before the sun came down leaving him to the possible killer on the loose as well as the forces of nature that were against him. As he made his way back he felt the pain of his legs cramping up, but he didn't allow that to stop him and even though it seemed as if every breath brought pain into Kenchu's lungs he was able to simply push through it. Even his body became slightly lighter than it had when he was running in the beginning,
"This must be my resolution to live..." Kenchu acknowledged as he made his way into the camp area; he was slightly happy because he now knew just how important the strength of his resolve was to the success of his overall personal mission.
