The Creation of a New Team [P]

[Ryuuchou Meimu]

Towards the center of the Land of Waterfalls is a tranquil, wide open field surrounded on all sides by trees. The diameter of the field is about 45 meters give or take, and after that the forest opens up, thick to begin with and thinner as one travels back toward the village, or thicker as they head farther away from it. The field is plain and simple as of now, having just been decided upon as the rendezvous point and regular training grounds for the fresh, newly formed, and undeveloped team. Within the forest, however, are various animals and insects, and several decent sized streams. Throughout it there are several small clearings as with any forest where training dummies and other training accessories will be set up.

[Hoshigake, Takeru]

The earth fell heavily beneath his footing, crushing both grass and soil as the Hoshigake came to the scene. A scowl crept across his face as he glanced around at the open beauty of the area. That was it, though. It was open. He was the only person in sight. Here, he was supposed to meet his new team, yet already they showed their abilities with punctuality. For the record, it was horrible. Laying the gourd upon the earth, Takeru found himself within the center of the field, waiting patiently so that he could meet the ninja he would soon be forced to call "team."

With my new buckler holstered proudly over my shoulder, I would proceed directly toward my next objective; the area that had been designated as my "team"'s meeting place. I wasn't sure precisely how I felt about this; on one hand, my teammates were probably idiotic dolts; on the other, it might be useful to have someone to back me up if, say, I went on a 'particularly dangerous' mission.

...Nope, probably they'd just be dolts.

Regardless of this notion, I proceeded swiftly to the chosen location. I had been sent a messenger kunai yesterday when I came home; 'twas quite a fright when it struck into a board inches from my position. And when I had read it I felt no more reassured. Yep, this was a heck of a bother.

I entered what seemed to be a small forest at present, jogging through bushes, under branches and leaping over small boulders. The trees gradually thickened, until it was quite dark among them and I stumbled a couple of times. But all of a sudden there was light up ahead, and then a whole field opened up before me. This was the place, alright. I'd been here once before. Only I wasn't the first person to arrive.

A guy was already standing within the middle of the area; a big guy. Not so much in the fact that he was tall - I was almost as tall as he was - but in the fact that he was just... big. His whole body bulged with muscles; not even my athletic physique could match his.

...Fuck. A real challenge. I felt some kind of primal instinct to defeat this new challenger on the spot. 'Not the place, not the time.' I reminded myself forcefully, biting my lip. It seemed he hadn't noticed me yet, so, keeping my voice casual, I slung my hands into my coat pockets and called to him.

"Hey you. You're part of the team, right?"

[Hoshigake, Takeru]

My head turned slowly, eyes creeping over my shoulder as I cast my gaze onto she who had spoken. It was a gir-- boy? No, definitely a girl. Hold on, perhaps a boy? I continued to turn my whole body to glance over my new so called "comrade," and as I came to my conclusion, I finally spoke. "Yeah, that's me. Name's Takeru. And yours...

"... little boy?"

Even with enhanced eyesight I couldn't make out the particular distinctions of this person. This person before me, from what I could see, was fairly muscular, leaving the impression of a man. Their face, too, had the boyish impressions that lead to my conclusion. Yet the frame in general had a certain feminineness about it that couldn't shake my mind. My muscles tensed for a moment as I regarded the person before me, waiting for their response. If I was right, all would go well! If I was wrong, well, my chakra had felt a little unused lately, anyway.

[/i] - gills and tinted skin and everything. Out of some deeply buried sense of politeness I tried not to let this show on my face - my perfectly bloody normal human face.

The fish-man talked now. "Yeah, that's me. Name's Takeru. And yours... little boy?"

Oh. Woops. There goes any pretense I had of kindness.

Little boy? Suddenly anger, the kind of which I'd scarcely ever even felt before, erupted like a volcano inside of me. Who the fuck was he calling a boy? And who the fuck was he calling little? Anger boiled in my features, and I gritted my teeth, my face suddenly looking a lot less human and a lot more like some sort of feral beast.

"What the hell? I'm a girl, moron. Ain't never seen one before? And don't go around calling me small just because I'm not an over-sized shark on fucking steroids!" Acid seeped through every syllable. I'd already been pissed enough about coming here and having to 'meet up' with a few dumb-asses, ruining my whole goddamn day.

And now the bastard had called me a little boy. In the small recesses of my mind that weren't burning with hatred, I wondered where the other guy - or guys, I didn't know the specific number - were. And I hoped they weren't morons like this one.[/ul]

"I hope I didn't get put on a team of 12 year olds. If they're all a bunch of 12 year olds, I'll walk away." Ryuuchou said to himself as he walked through the thinner part of the forest. The forest he had been told to travel through in order to meet his new team. "If what I was told is true, then the forest will start to get thicker and thicker, and then open up into some field. Hopefully it was just a joke." As if on cue, as he finished the thought the branches began to come together in greater volume, the trees grew closer together, blocking most of the sun from the forest floor, and there were more insects than he had thought could be in the same place at one time. He didn't get by without his share of scratches and nicks, not to mention the occasional poke in the eye, but he didn't mind too much. He was finally being put onto a team, perhaps he'd be able to get some more experience this way.

Soon enough he found light breaking through from the edge of the forest, and within minutes he was back beneath the warm sunlight, breathing fresher air than what his lungs had taken in during his time through the foliage. He was surprised to see that two others had arrived before him, but then again he had managed to sleep in and wake up late that morning. He did a quick once over of himself to make sure he hadn't lost anything in the thick brush, and found that he had all his gear and his back pack still on his person. With his checklist finished, he took another look at the two people and saw that they were already talking. He took a quick breath and began the short walk towards the two.

Even from a distance he could tell that the smaller of the two seemed angry. At first glance it looked like two guys getting into a fight. The one, large and brawny, standing slightly higher than the other, less muscular one, though almost certainly possessing more muscle than Ryuuchou. Ryuuchou's first thought was little dog syndrome, where small dogs pick fights with larger canines, thinking that they're just as big if not bigger. He had no doubt that both were skilled, but the difference in size caused the thought to linger, along with the thought of two dogs fighting over territory. "What the hell is up with these thoughts of dogs? I don't even have a goddamn dog." He said himself quietly, shaking his head as he moved closer to who he assumed were his two teammates.

Upon closer examination Ryuuchou saw that the larger one had the appearance of, well, a fish. A shark to be more specific. His skin looked as if he had just come out of a walk in freezer, a sort of sad blue color, his neck had crinkles that looked like gills, seemingly squirming every now and then, and his eyes, though looking at them from the side, looked completely round to the medic. He'd never seen anything like it and it peaked his curiosity. So much so that he almost didn't look at the other bo... Girl. After getting a bit closer, and hearing the voice a bit more clearly, he had no doubt that, although tough in appearance and personality, the other, more normal looking person, was female. If not for the voice he probably wouldn't have realized she was a girl.

Feeling the tension as he stepped up to them, he let out something of a guttural noise, clearing his throat which had become full of whatever it is that builds up in and needs clearing from the throat. "Hi there." Said the ninja, his voice a mix of excitement, anxiety, and nervousness. "My name's Ryuuchou Meimu, but you can call me Ryuu if you want. I'm guessing you guys will be on this team too?" His voice became more steady as he introduced himself and questioned the two, but then he realized he might have just possibly made himself the center of attention, and therefore, the target of hostility. "Any idea who the team leader is?" Continued the teen, hoping to change the subject from whatever it had been before he had come to stand with them and diffuse the tension.

The thing before me seemed to shapeshift before my very eyes, leading me to question what kind of jutsu could create such a hellish creation. The boy morphed from a seemingly normal human to the most monstrous of beasts. My eyes widened as before me the Satanic spawn gritted its teeth so loudly that it could be heard from my current positioning. I swallowed, hard, and watched as the foul maw of this creature opened up, bursting with its mighty roar!

This would be about the time I realized my mistake; the female before me exploding with fury at my mistake, at my diction. I actually smiled in amusement as she released her emotions, and my crossed arms moved to rest behind my head as she finished, and for a moment there was silence. In the distance, someone was starting to move through the brush, but I was too focused on the girl before me to truly notice. This moment of silence, however, would be abruptly disrupted by my maniac laughter. Hands moving again to fold across my chest, I bore a mocking smile as I shouted back to the girl, almost completely ignoring he who was coming to us now.

"You sure got a big fuckin' mouth! You should learn to control it before you get hurt!"

It would be then that our new friend came upon us, and my mocking smile would turn quickly to a scowl as he announced himself. I had no words for him, but instead kept my gaze upon him while still keeping this girl in my sights; one could never be too careful.

[/i] me? Laughing? Laughing? Anger frothed and bubbled within me, and I gripped my hands into fists - embodiments of hate, trembling with the want to - "You sure got a big fuckin' mouth! You should learn to control it before you get hurt!" Oh yeah. Yeah, right. You struck first, moron.

But this wasn't the way to settle anything with fellow shinobi. I bit my lip, trying to muster up some sort of control over myself. The heat inside my head eventually steamed itself out as I looked down from the fish-dude to the high grass undulating gently in a passing zephyr. Breathe in. Breathe out.

It now came to my attention that we weren't alone. A second figure had approached, almost behind me. With a last quip of "Pfft. Whatever, gills." I then turned my attention to the newest arrival, a spark of annoyance still glinting in my eye, which were, for once, not masked by my usual red goggles. He was another boy, and once again slightly bigger than me, though at least his grandad hadn't been a hammerhead. He wore a red and white outfit and had a - perfectly normal - white complexion and light brown hair. At least he was more pleasant to look at that than the fish.

Erm. Okay. Maybe I was having a little trouble grasping the fact that my teammate had gills. It was going to get some time to get used to.

"Hi there." He said simply, though his tone rang with a whole mixture of emotion. "Hi." I managed to sort of mumble through my irritation. Gills said nothing. "My name's Ryuuchou Meimu, but you can call me Ryuu if you want. I'm guessing you guys will be on this team too?"

At that, I almost chuckled, but it came out as a sort of derisive snort. Some team we were. "Hmph. I guess so." I glanced furtively back at gills, afraid that if I stared at him long enough I would become enraged once more. I still couldn't judge if Ryuuchou was as dumb as the other one, but I decided I'd introduce myself anyway. I hadn't given gills a proper introduction, so, reluctantly, I turned to face a direction in which I was facing side-on to both of them, though I mostly spoke to Ryuuchou.

"I'm Kaoru. Takeuchi. And yeah, I guess we're teammates from now on." I let a hint of reluctance slide into my tone on the last words. "Any idea who the team leader is?" He replied.

Resigned, I closed my eyes, not really afraid that gills would actually strike back, and after a moment, flopped down onto the shin-high grass, crossing my legs and leaning on my arms behind me for support. "No idea." I said simply, and looked up at the sky. It was pretty sunny, no clouds or anything. In the light, my hair looked kind of like tongues of flame. I wished I could be enjoying the good weather a little more. [/ul]

As Ryuuchou stopped in place and made himself as comfortable as he could by shifting his feet in the grass, he looked up to see the fish faced man looking at him with an expression that showed less than pleasure. His features were somewhat unnerving, but not to the point that Ryuuchou was scared or driven to sickness. He felt some nausea at the less than human appearance, but he figured that was only natural. He said nothing in response, so Ryuuchou just stared at him for awhile, trying to get himself used to the man's appearance. As the girl responded he turned his attention toward her, catching sight of her eyes. He was almost stunned as he looked at them, the dark lashes sort of made them pop out at the medic.

He soon realized that he had looked longer than might have been normal so he directed his gaze elsewhere, down toward his feet as he shifted them once more. He barely paid attention to her chuckle, he could tell already by what he had interrupted that the team would be off to a rocky start, and that was probably putting it lightly. He listened to her closely as she introduced herself, deciding it might be better not to outstretch his hand for fear she might try to rip it off in her less than happy mood. "Nice to meet you." He said, figuring it would suffice as a replacement for a handshake. As she, too, was less then aware of who the team leader would be, so he figured he would try asking the shark man.

"What about you?" He asked, turning ever so slightly back to him, trying not to stare at his eyes or gills for too long. "If I hadn't heard what you said to Kaoru before I'd think you probably couldn't talk above water, but since I know better..." What he said had slipped through his lips before he realized that it was coming out wrong, and there was no stopping it. Subconsciously though, he was glad that he could do what he felt was sticking something to the shark man after hearing what he had said to Kaoru. "Anyways, do you know what's going on with the team?" Asked the teen a bit awkwardly. "And do you have a name? I mean, I suppose even fish have names, right?" He said, biting down on his lip before he said anything else that would come out wrong.

I couldn't help but smirk at the name bestowed upon me. I, for one, had no actual hostility towards these people. I saw them as comrades, however reluctantly, and however they chose to regard myself was for them. We were in a team; they would learn to deal with it. This new team mate, Ryuuchou, appeared to be a nice enough guy. Funny, too, as his question was followed by a swift quip. "What a bunch of clever little bastards!", the thought raced to my head as my hands clenched with a small bout of anger.

"I'm not aware of any team leader." I seemed to spit the last two words, showing my evident fury towards the fish remarks. Glaring at the boy before me, I winced slightly as he asked my name, for the manner in which he had done so would make me kill any other person. I forced a great grin, pulling my lips apart so as to show the sharpness of each individual tooth within my mouth. I extended my hand, walking forward slowly so as to close the distance between us, waiting for him to grasp onto it so I could give a rather firm grip.

"Takeru Hoshigake. A pleasure to meet you." Once he had shaken my hand (or refused it), I would move a few paces back to my original position, trying to keep away from the female as she dropped to the floor, obviously trying to relax in the weather we had. Her hair cast out, and with the reflection of light came the appearance of flames bursting from her head. That would essentially be how I'd love to see her in this moment; on fire, dying on the floor. Sadly, that wouldn't be the scenario today. I slowly turned my gaze back to Ryuuchou, my ever-maniacally smirk coming to fruition as I spoke to the two of them, but more so to Ryuuchou.

"Neither of you two have ever seen one of my kind, have you?"

I let the other two play meet and greet while I simply stared off into space, up at the sky. They seemed much more friendly to one another, though I cracked a smile when Ryuuchou made a few fish-related comments that sounded as though they'd come out somewhat before he could stop them. Then I was serene once more. Maybe I'd been too hard on gills. He'd probably had a lot of the fish insults throughout his life, and I suppose I wasn't exactly an 'Ah! I broke a nail!' kind of girl. A fairly easy mistake to make. I sighed.

It seemed none of us new anything about the fine details of our team; only that we were all instructed to come here, and that we were to work together. I wasn't even sure how far that phrase would extend to either; missions, I guess, the usual kind of thing.

"Neither of you two have ever seen one of my kind, have you?" Takeru then said, addressing both of us. I had caught the word 'Hoshigake' among the short conversation between the two boys. It rang a bell.

"Now that you mention it," I said, not looking at Gills, "I haven't. But I might remember reading up on something called Hoshigake." I turned to him now, and sat up a little more properly, folding my arms over my knees. "You need a ritual to become like that, right?"

I let that question hang in the air for a sec, before I slowly breathed out. "Sorry, f- Takeru." I said reluctantly, but wouldn't elaborate any further.

There was my apology. Take it or leave it.

[Ryuuchou Meimu]

Ryuuchou let out a small sigh, pursing his lips slightly. "That's great. None of seems to know anything about this. Blind faith seems to be a fitting term." He said, taking a small step back as the tall man seemed to come forward toward him. He extended his hand and, not wishing to be any more disrespectful, Ryuuchou grasped it firmly, trying not to wince at the strength his new teammate showed, and the force that had been exerted on his digits. "You um, have nice teeth." He said, forcing something of a smile onto his face, though it clearly showed anything but happiness or pleasure.

After Takeru revealed his name, Ryuuchou would mimic Kaoru in taking a seat on the grass, holding his right hand behind his back as he attempted to recover feeling and get back the circulation. He could easily heal it with a simple spurt of Chakra but he felt that that would show some sort of weakness or wimpishness, so he immediately decided against it, squeezing it several times instead. 'This is going to be a fun team. Hopefully we don't go on some important mission, get into a fight and die a horrible death.' Thought the teen, chewing his lip yet again so as to keep himself from saying anything less than polite once more.

As the Hoshigake posed his question, Ryuuchou shook his head. He'd never seen a fish man before, he'd never heard of such a Clan, or any ritual that could do that to a person. He'd seen fish before, and he'd seen pictures of sharks, and as these thoughts flooded his mind he thought of responding by saying that he had seen fish, and not fish people, but he made sure to bite down on his lip even harder to keep his lips from forming the words. "Never even heard of it. I really wasn't aware that such, uh, amazing transformations were possible." He managed to say, giving a weak smile as he looked up at the man, sunlight causing him to squint in the sunlight.

It would be at about this time in the group's interactions that they would perhaps begin to notice a slight disturbance in the woods nearby, close by but a different area from which each had entered. Movement, just far enough inside the wood line that nothing could really be seen (even by Takeru), since the forest was so dense. Definitely movement though, and by something fairly large, or perhaps several somethings....

Anyone looking at the sky might notice an extremely distance figure high, high above, what would appear to be a very large, strangely shaped bird of prey. From this distance nothing more could be distinguished, although its appearance would certainly be considered strange, and may spark curiosity. Its wingspan rivals that of the largest eagles, and it floats on the thermals what seems to be at least a mile up.

I snickered briefly at the boys comment as he fell to the ground beside Kaoru, his hand tightening and releasing from the brief pain I had put it through. I, however, was able to hide my smile at my slight revenge to his remarks. Seeing the two upon the floor, I pushed my gourd slightly closer to them, eventually seating myself upon it as I looked from one to the other. Kaoru had appeared to calm down at this point, and the other, Ryuuchou, had this weird habit of biting into his lips. Taking a closer look, I could see they held an unusual tint to them, probably due to all the biting he had already been doing.

My head came to rest within my hand as I looked at the two before me, awaiting their replies. Kaoru was the first to come forward, and as she spoke, she refused to even look at me. It was obvious; each of them had a hard time understanding I was some kind of hybrid. Not that I had cared, nor will I; it was just an easily made observation. But, even so, it seemed she tried to make the effort as she slowly turned to face me, and to my surprise she had actually heard of my clan; a family of Sharks. Although her diction was slightly less than appealing, I had to smile at what she had said. I replied, this time with my own voice becoming calmer and more even, "You heard right. A ritual is needed to become like myself. I received rather young, I suppose."

Not long after my response, Ryuuchou would also reply. Still bearing my smile, I turned to him in order to speak. "You'd be surprised at the things that inhabit this world." With a light chuckle, I'd roll off of the gourd and lean on my back, staring into the clouds above as I, too, took some time to relax. "The best part is that I'm not even the weirdest one." My eyes closed for a moment, merely taking in the serenity of the moment. As much as I loved fighting, it was nice to have some down time every so often.

Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale, open eyes. As light flooded back to my existence, my eyes narrowed in on a point within the sky, which was apparently some bird. Not just any bird, however, for this one was fairly large. Moving one arm to point to the sky, I would pose the question, squinting against the glare of the sun as I tried to get a better look at the beast that flew overhead. With a hint of worry in my voice, I spoke out, trying to get their attention on what was above us.

"Does anyone else see that thing?"

[/i] was surely not a cloud. In fact I couldn't figure out what it was. A little alarmed now, I sat up more properly, squinting up at it. "Yeah, I see it. But what is it?" I said curiously, sort of captivated by it now. It looked more like a bird than anything else, but far too big to be a normal one.[/ul]

[Ryuuchou Meimu]

Nodding slightly as Takeru spoke to them, Ryuuchou let out a quiet sigh, his hand finally returning to normal, or near it, anyway. "I suppose you would be right, I probably would be surprised. I've never really left this village. Just once, and although that was quite the experience, I'm sure that there are weirder, badder, worse things out there than you." He said, his eyes going wide for moment. He quickly bit down on his lip again. "Sorry, that came out completely opposite of how I meant it to come out. I just meant that I'm sure that if such things exist, such as your ritual, bigger things do as well. I wouldn't put it past the world." He said, hoping to rectify whatever damage he had done before he was put on the menu as Ryuuchou Flavored Shark Bait.

He sat quietly for a moment, glancing at the grass, toward the opposite side of the field from where he had entered, at his feet and back. Anywhere that didn't really hold anything to actually see. His breath was slow and calm, deep and elongated. He was starting to feel less than hot about the things he had accidentally said during the first team meeting. Not only that, but he was a bit nervous about how none of them knew anything about what was happening. It made Ryuuchou's mind wander. Were they really a new team? Was it a test? Was this just some kind of trick to lure them out to the middle of nowhere and into the open? He couldn't help but wonder. He took comfort in the thought that each of them probably didn't hold anything of value. At least, he didn't, so if it were a trap why would he be there?

His eyes continued to wander along with his thoughts, almost in a triangle. Grass, feet, forest, repeat. As he peeled his eyes away from the forest for the fourth or fifth time, however, he noticed something. At first he thought that his mind might be playing tricks on his eyes. He couldn't see anything beyond the trees, there were no creatures or people to behold, but he definitely noticed something move past the forest line. Key to detail was something that went along with his Genjutsu Specialty, so he decided to trust his eyes this time. Better safe than sorry.

He turned his attention toward the sky as Takeru asked his question. He continued to look up at the high flying outline, and as Kaoru asked her own question, Ryuuchou couldn't help his reply. "Its a bird, its a plane, its a Jinchuuriki." Whether the humor was lost on the two or not, he peeled his eyes away from the bird to look back toward the forest once again, squinting his eyes as if somehow by doing so they would turn into telescopes and extend his vision. "I don't know if you guys noticed, but there was movement over there as well." He mentioned, nodding his head in the general direction. "I couldn't see who or what, but I definitely saw something." Said the medic, his senses alert and his muscles ready to spring and react to whatever might happen.

The figure in the sky would hold its course, gradually approaching the equivalent to their position high in the sky. Soon it would be pretty much directly above them, although there was still little detail to discern at this distance, not without some sort of zoom.

From the forest more sounds would be heard, at first softly, and then louder. Finally with a significant crash (the sound of a tree splintering and falling), a Grizzly Bear would stumble from the treeline. It was maybe 20 meters away if that, and looked up at the group in that moment, eyes blinking from the sun. It looked a bit confused, but not surprised to see them, if they could tell such things. This bear is a bit small for a Grizzly, about 4 feet tall and 6 feet long standing on all fours, although such size is still quite significant, and would not be uncommon for any other type of bear.

(BTW Takeru would see the grizzly right before it exited the woods, before anyone else would see it due to his 'Frightening Eyesight'. You would also easily see the tree as it broke and fell, but you would not be able to see exactly how it was broken.)

As the soft beats grew into thunderous stomps, I was of course forced to draw my attention away from the bird, looking instead now to the forest. Peering into the darkness with my enhanced vision, my eyes would quickly widen as I jumped to my feet. The dark mass plowed through the forest, and within moments the great crash would echo throughout the air. The creature came forth, tearing down an entire tree on its way. I quickly moved to the other side of my team, taking a battle-ready stance should the need arise.

The creature looked, quite honestly, domicile. It was confused, in some way, but in tearing down a tree like it had, it had shown enough danger. My teeth gritted together as I stared at the beast, trying to catch its eyes. My hands were ready and clasped together, watching as this bear, a Grizzly, stared directly at us. Looking back at my team, I would motion towards the bear, smirking as I spoke, "If he attacks us, this could be our first team exercise."
