(OOC: Link to where I found the master: narutoforumrp.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ouzuisland&action=display&thread=70416)
Kysuugi and Kojiro walked into an isolated, grassy park, filled with colorful flowers, trees, and small animals that flitted about anxiously. This was the day when Kysuugi would, in essence, become a member of the Yamanaka clan, and he was ecstatic.
Then, his master spoke, "You know, I was lying to you in that shop about not wanting to teach you."
Kysuugi was slightly surprised. "Really?"
"Yes. I just wanted to see how serious you were about learning these techniques. It's going to be very difficult, so I needed to know how commited you were first."
"Oh yeah, I'm very commited. No need to worry about that," Kysuugi said with a smile.
"Good. Then let's begin."
Kojiro walked about 10 meters away from Kysuugi, then suddenly performed a flurry of handseals, ending with a strange seal that Kysuugi had never seen before. It sort of looked like an oval, perhaps imitating the human brain. At first, nothing happened, except that Kojiro had slumped over on his knees, seemingly dead.
"Master Kojiro?" Kysuugi started to walk towards him, but suddenly, he couldn't move anymore. He felt the presence of something in his body. At first he didn't know what it was, but then he realized it was Kojiro in his body; he was the one in control now. Then, although Kysuugi didn't want to, he was forced to take off both his butt bag filled with his secondary weapons, his vest under his shirt, his flute on his back, and even the headband around his neck, dropping them on the ground around him. After what seemed like ages, Kysuugi could finally move again, and Kojiro had gotten up off of his knees to face Kysuugi, smiling.
"Just to give you an example of what you're going to learn first."
"Did you HAVE to do it like that!? I mean that was so freaky!" Kysuugi asked irritably while picking up his belongings.
"Yes. How can you perform this technique if you don't even know what you're supposed to be doing?"
"Oh alright...God...talk about an out of body experience..."
"No need to get feisty. We've barely even started. But anyhow, what you've just experienced is something called the Art of the Valentine. What you have to do is sever your mind from your body temporarily, and then use it to push your target's mind into submission. From there, you can control your opponent until you have to leave his body and return to yours. Simple."
Kysuugi was awestruck. "Simple? That's like trying to play football while balancing china plates on your head!
"Well, if you think about it that way, you'll never learn how to perform this technique."
"Okay...I guess. Let's go."
Slightly reassured, Kysuugi watched as Kojiro showed him the handseals required to perform the technique, including the strange handseal, which Kojiro identified as "the oval seal." Kysuugi mimicked him, going slowly at first, and then speeding up until he could perform them at full speed. Kojiro had to correct Kysuugi a few times on the oval seal, but eventually, Kysuugi got it right.
Next, Kojiro explained how to control the chakra needed for the technique. He said that it had to be focused in the heart almost like a knife, cutting through the bond between the soul and body until it was completely severed. Kysuugi then grabbed a kunai out of his butt bag and made a shallow cut across his arm. When Kojiro asked why, Kysuugi said that "it helps me get a feel for what my chakra has to act like." Using the cut as a reference, he embraced the pain and imagined his chakra as cold and sharp, like a steel weapon.
He then made the tiger handseal with his master and practiced focusing his chakra into his heart. It had to be focused in a precise place, at the seat of the soul. Since it was in a slightly different place in each person, it would take a while to figure out exactly where it was. So, Kysuugi searched with his chakra, probing his heart, trying to flush out the hiding place of his soul. Finally, after quite a while of searching and patient encouragement from his master, he found it in the deepest recesses of his mind and heart. Letting his chakra unfocus, he then searched for his soul multiple times so that it would be easy to find when he needed to perform the jutsu.
Pleased with Kysuugi's progress, Kojiro decided that he could practice the jutsu for the first time. He stood close to Kysuugi, only a meter or two away, facing him as he said, "Now make the handseals, sever your soul from your body, and take control of my own." Kysuugi nodded, and his hands detonated in a miniature explosion of handseals, ending with holding the oval seal. However, as he tried to separate his mind from his body, his chest and his head began throbbing with immense pain. He fell to his knees with clenched teeth and labored breathing, trying to imagine what went wrong.
"You're not doing it right at all," Kojiro said bluntly. He obviously had seen this type of reaction in training before, so he seemed relatively calm. "You're severing your soul too crassly. You're cutting only parts of your soul out of your body, leaving the rest behind. When you sever your soul from your body, it has to be precise and clean, like a surgeon's incision. Take your time."
Kysuugi managed to nod his head through the pain and waited for it to subside. He didn't know how at this point, but he simply had to do this right. He made the handseals once again, and this time severed his soul from his body very slowly. His cuts were much more precise this time and, though he still felt pain, the pain was greatly lessened. As he continued to cut with his chakra, he noticed that his legs were getting weaker and becoming numb, as if someone had given him anesthetic. Eventually, he couldn't hold his body up any longer, and he dropped to his knees, still holding the handseal. His chakra continued to sever his soul from his body, and the numb feeling traveled up his abdomen and back. Also, his eyesight and other senses were getting weaker, and his face and hands felt the same numbness as the rest of his body. Finally, with one last effort of chakra, his soul was completely separated from his body, which was laying half-lifeless on the ground behind him.
In his soul form, he heard nothing, saw nothing, and felt nothing. It was a void, and Kysuugi felt like he was suspended in it, helpless. He was slightly scared; he didn't know how to move, and he even if he did, he wasn't sure even where to go. All in all, Kysuugi was stuck. Then after a while, he felt like he was being sucked upwards out of the void. He suddenly found himself back in his body, lying down on the ground dazed and confused.
"What happened?" he wondered wearily.
"It's alright. You just forgot to follow the flow."
"Follow the what?"
"Didn't you feel anything trying to push you while you were in your soul form?"
"Yeah, a little."
"Then that's your problem. You didn't follow that force, which caused you to be stuck until your body pulled you back in. Thankfully it did. I remember one ninja in my family who-"
"Oh god, please don't tell me what could have happened. I'm spooked out of my wits already Master Kojiro. Can we take a little break?"
"Sure. Just remember I have a shop to run and all."
"Ok then." Kysuugi was still a bit confused from the whole experience, but he knew one thing: he wouldn't stop until he had finished learning this jutsu. He was always stubborn about this sort of thing, and he wasn't about to stop now.
