0/10 – Aku
0/10 - Masa
The earth below their feet’s was soft but strong, only a thin layer of dust had settled over the top creating a smooth fine texture which warmed the feet. The sun above warming up the dirt significantly with the time he had to sunbake. Even the heat had penetrated the beast’s coat, warming his skin beneath slowly. The two had decided to race, the distance being 20 meters, 10 forward, a turn, then 10 back. It wouldn’t take them long but it would be something to try and test their potential
The two companions had taken up at the beginning line side by side, only a foot of air separated the two from contact, which while shunshining could be potentially chaotic. Aku stood to his right, while Masa stood to his master’s left, his shoulder still higher than the warrior’s head when they stood side by side. An amusing image. Both crouched low and prepared to shunshin forwards and then back, the distance was negligible but reflexes would call forth the true winner of the race. Hands and feet planted themselves to the ground, the tips of his fingers digging into the earth while masa’s paw twisted and gripped the not-so loose earth beneath.
The Kamyuja had to lift a hand to signal the beginning of the race, there was no other method by which he could signal. His body hung low, resting on the muscles required to make him cross that distance so rapidly in preparation to warm them and get them ready for the abuse. Then with the drop of his hand, the warrior and beast crossed the ten meters before turning drastically, dust kicked up and flying through the air as they did so. The time taken was next to nothing as they both came to a standstill at the line.
A small scuff of dirt was kicked up by each participant as he crossed the line, throwing small pebbles and dirt away from the finish line. Overall the trip took less than a second, but to them it felt longer. Their running was incredibly quick, too quick to follow, but when they both came to the finishing line, it was quite clear who had won. The young warrior smirked and held his head high, but his victory wasn’t quite what he had thought. The young companion had beaten him, but only by a whiskers length.
Skidding to a stop, Aku turned to his companion and realized the defeat he had just been handed. A slight frown accompanied his young features and he turned back the way they’d just come. The beast had already gathered his master would want a rematch, he knew his master too well to know otherwise. He approached the line carefully and placed his feet back into the ready positions. Aku did the same and grinned, ready to beat his companion this time.
This time the warning came a bit slower, and both gained the same advantage as the other, so essentially no one had an advantage. Both shunshined the distance, turned and shunshined back. The race was close once more, near impossible to determine which of the two had successfully beaten the other without being at the finish, waiting. The mute warrior was sure this time, or so he had thought, but once again his expectations had been higher than he wanted and the companion had slaughtered his own speed once again.
