Kanae walked around an outdoor art exhibition, browsing the different items on display. Artists of all levels had brought examples of their work, hoping attract customers and improve their reputation. Paintings, pottery, quilts, and many other types of art were on display. Sometimes Kanae brought her clay sculptures and put them on display. Today, however, she was just looking at other people's art. It was relaxing for Kanae and often helped to spark her muse.

After looking around for a while, Kanae sat down in a shady area to rest. Her legs were getting tired from walking around, but she wasn't ready to go home just yet. It didn't take long for Kanae to get bored. Her legs were still tired, so Kanae decided to do something with her hands. She began using her Clay Life technique to form a small bird. Kanae had learned the technique a couple of days before, and it was quickly becoming her favorite.

Kakuro strolled around an outdoor art exhibition. Artists of all levels had brought examples of their work, hoping to attract customers. Paintings, pottery, quilts, and many other types of art were on display. Kakuro was looking for someone to train with. As he walked people were staring at him. He thought it was probably because of his pale skin and black cloak. He also wears a small crossbow on his right forearm.
Kakuro didn't pay attention to them because he was in a good mood. His black hair and blue eyes sparkled in the sunlight. While he was looking he saw someone sitting in some shade. He watched her form a small bird with her hands. He walked up to her and decided she looked liked a shinobi. "Hey my name is Kakuro what's yours?"Kakuro asked politely. "That's a nice technique you just did, are you a clay artisan too?"Kakuro exclaimed.

[Kanae]

Kanae looked up as a thin man who was about as tall as she was walked over to her. She continued playing with her newly formed clay bird, not paying much attention to the man until he spoke. "Hey my name is Kakuro what's yours?" Judging by the weapon he wore openly, Kanae guessed that the man was probably a shinobi. He seemed to be friendly, and Kanae was in a good mood, so she answered, "Kanae."

Kanae was about to say something else when the man suddenly said, "That's a nice technique you just did, are you a clay artisan too?" Too? Kanae thought to herself. She hadn't met another Sankuchi member since she moved to the Land of Waterfall. "Yes, I am. Are you saying that you're a member of the Sankuchi clan as well?"

Kanae wondered if the man had any handmouths. She hadn't been born with one, but she had heard that some people were. Kanae was excited to meet another member of her clan. Although she loved working with clay, she quickly lost interest when training alone. If she had someone else to train with, Kanae believed it would be a lot more fun.

"Yes, I am. Are you saying that you're a member of the Sankuchi clan as well?" When Kakuro heard her say this he realized he guessed right. He wondered how it would feel talking to someone who was in his own clan.

"Yes I am a member of the Sankuchi clan," Kakuro replied. He wondered if she had any hand mouths. He watched her play with the clay bird she made"I was born with one hand mouth, how many were you born with?"Kakuro said. Kakuro decided that since she answered that she was in a good mood. He decided that he wanted to see if she would train with him. "By the way I can train with you if you want,"

Kakuro wondered how she would respond. The question he asked was quite sudden, but maybe she wanted to train too. The only thing he could do was wait and she what she would say.

[Kanae]

"Yes I am a member of the Sankuchi clan," Kakuro replied. "I was born with one hand mouth, how many were you born with?" So he had been born with a handmouth. Kanae was a little jealous, but more curious than anything else. "I don't have any handmouths. Do you mind if I look at yours?"

"By the way I can train with you if you want," Kakuro added. "Sure, that would be great," she answered with a smile. "Hold on a sec," Kanae said as she began rummaging around in a bag she had brought along with her. After searching for a few minutes, she pulled out a large scroll.

"This is a scroll my grandma gave me that has several Sankuchi techniques in it. Why don't we show each other which ones we know. I'll start. I know these," Kanae said pointing out several jutsus, "Katsu, Mouth Control, Clay Infusion, and Clay Life." By this time, Kanae's clay bird had run out of chakra and reverted to a lump of clay. She put the clay back into her clay pouch as she waited for Kakuro to speak.

"I don't have any handmouths. Do you mind if I look at yours?"This was the first time someone ever asked Kakuro that. He pulled up his left arm sleeve and held out his hand to Kanae.

"This is a scroll my grandma gave me that has several Sankuchi techniques in it. Why don't we show each other which ones we know. I'll start. I know these," Kanae said pointing out several jutsus, "Katsu, Mouth Control, Clay Infusion, and Clay Life." Kakuro realized that she knew more jutsu's than him.
I know Mouth Control for both of my mouths and I know Katsu. I am almost finished with Clay Infusion. Since you know some clay techniques we could train together. We could also work on other techniques if you wanted too.

[Kanae]

Kanae eagerly took the hand that Kakuro offered her. The lips, tongue, and teeth all looked like they would in a regular mouth. Seeing Kakuro's handmouth had increased her determination to get her own.

After listing the jutsus she knew, Kakuro did the same. Kanae knew one more jutsu than him - Clay Life. Kakuro would need to learn Clay Life before he could make any bombs. Kanae could also practice Clay Life so she could make larger creatures.

"Do you want to learn Clay Life? I can teach you and we could practice it together." Kanae waited to see what Kakuro's response would be.

"Do you want to learn Clay Life? I can teach you and we could practice it together."

Kakuro pulled his sleeve back down and responded to Kanae's question.

"Yah we should practice together. But are we going to train here? Once we finish training some clay jutsu's, we can train other techniques together."

He then waited for Kanae's reply.

[Kanae]

"Yah we should practice together. But are we going to train here? Once we finish training some clay jutsu's, we can train other techniques together."

"We can train Clay Life here," Kanae said thoughtfully. "It's not very messy or destructive, so we don't need to worry about damaging the art exhibition. As for training other techniques, I think we should go to the Takikage Tower first. I saw a mission there for training a C Rank jutsu, and if two people take it together you get more ryo."

The speed at which a user can infuse the piece of clay is directly dependent of the user rank of "Touji Hyu-zu" (Clay Infusion). The The amount of bombs; the amount of clay slots used to make a bomb; the size of the clay bomb; the maximum distance in which a clay creature may travel; and the amount of hands required to make a bomb will be stated within the bomb itself. (See more below)

Description: Clay Life is the true culmination of what a clay creation can really do. Directly after the user completes the fusion process derived from "Touji Hyu-zu" (Clay Infusion), he or she commands their mouth the spit out the piece of clay into their palm. The user further refines and molds this piece of clay using their fingers as it rests in his or her palms. During this refinement process, the users taps into their memory bank and focuses on a desired shape and characteristic they wish to endow their clay bomb with. This selected design is usually something which they have seen and witnessed from real life already. Once they are completed with the refinement process, a small clay version of what they desired rests within there hands. This refined piece of clay may take the shape of a variety of creatures; from insects to birds to reptiles or even mammals and must be stated by the user. (Some restrictions on what type of creature can be produced will stated by the jutsu itself).

From this point on, "Katsu" is used to enlarge their clay creature to a desired size. While enlarged and fully formed, the clay creature will Permanently act in the same mannerism as the creature it is molded after and Only the mannerism of the clay creature it is molded after. A Clay bird will fly, A clay spider will crawl, a Clay fish will swim, etc. Information and restrictions on the clay creature is stated within the jutsu. This entire process of refinement is far quicker then the infusement process and posting time is not required in this case. The user rank within this jutsu determines which bomb he or she can create. If the user only knows the D-ranked version of "Touji Itonami "(Clay Life) he or she may only control D-ranked bombs. If the user only knows the C-ranked version of "Touji Itonami "(Clay Life) he or she may only control C-ranked bombs, and D-ranked bombs before that; and so on and so forth until S-rank (though some Bombs can state other wise).
Each clay creature has a varying enlarged size and shape:

S-rank Clay life: allows for the creation of creatures of the Epic size, (12ft- in length, stated by the jutsu itself).


The clay creature follows the users will on a near telepathic level. The user dictates which direction a clay creature may go and also dictates when the clay creature will detonate. A clay creature cannot act and attack on its free will and requires the users command. It cannot move to areas which the user does not know or see and detonate thereafter. (This does not apply to certain clay bombs). The clay creature cannot travel great distances from the user or last indefinitely. The maximum distance in which the clay creature can move is the same as the user's visual distance (a normal human visual distance). As this distance increases, it becomes harder to control clay creature(s). Beyond the visual range, the user is unable to maintain control of their clay creature and they become useless as they cannot detonate (though some Bombs can state other wise).The users chakra that has been imbued into the clay creature does not last longer then 1 minute if not detonated (unless the jutsu states differently as well). Afterwards, the users chakra completely dissipates form the clay creature, returning it into harmless lumps of shapeless clay, regardless of what rank bomb has been created.
Limit: Sankuchi blood line. Must be learned Multiple time as the user cannot gain A rank without first knowing D, C and B ranks. Must know "Kuchisaki Seichuu" (Mouth Control)

“Alright,” Kanae began, “the first thing you need to do is take out some clay. I would recommend using training clay since it can be used over and over, but it’s up to you.” As Kanae was talking, she took out about a slot of training clay from her small clay pouch. “Then you need to put the clay in your mouth. You can use either your handmouth or your real mouth, but I’ll be using my real mouth since I don’t have a handmouth yet.”

“Once the clay is in your mouth, start chewing on it. Use Clay Infusion to send chakra into the clay as you’re chewing. It might take you a little longer to do this step since you said you were still working on Clay Infusion. Make sure the chakra is evenly dispersed throughout the clay. Once you’re finished, spit the clay out into your hands.”

After Kanae finished talking, she followed the directions she had just given to Kakuro. She put the training clay in her mouth and began chewing on it. She only needed to chew on it for about 6 seconds, but she took a little longer this time since Kakuro was performing the jutsu for the first time. She exaggerated her movements to make sure that Kakuro was getting a good visual. After about 30 seconds she spat the clay out into her hands.

“Now what you want to do is make a creature out of your clay. It doesn’t matter what kind of creature you make. The creature I made before was a robin. I’ve found that adding details to the clay helps the creature turn out nicer. If you’re using this technique in battle, speed is probably more important though.”

Kanae paused to make sure Kakuro was still listening to her instructions and didn’t have any questions. After a few moments she resumed speaking. “The clay creature will take on the properties of the creature you model it after. For example, a clay fish will be able to swim and a clay bird will be able to fly. Make whatever you want to. I’ll make a kitten this time.”

Kanae began making a kitten out of the lump of clay in her hands. She could easily craft one in a few seconds, but she slowed down to give Kakuro some time to work on his creature. Kanae decided to focus on adding details to her kitten. First she made a rough outline of the kitten’s body. She created a tail, ears, feet, and a small protrusion where the kitten’s nose would be.

Then Kanae began working on the kitten’s eyes. She used her fingernails to make fine indentations. Kanae fleshed out the nose and gave the kitten a mouth. Then she added more details and lines to the ears. Once the face was finished, Kanae began working on the feet.

Once again, Kanae used her fingernail to draw fine lines on the clay. Kanae didn’t make any claws, since they would normally be sheathed and hidden. Kanae then smoothed the clay kitten’s back and tail. She added a few more lines here and there, making sure her kitten was perfect. Finally she decided her kitty was finished.

“After you finish shaping your creature, you use the Katsu handseal to increase the creature’s size. You’ll only be able to make a clay creature that’s 6 inches long because you’re just learning the jutsu.” Kanae performed the Katsu handseal and began petting the now purring kitten. If you didn’t count the tail the kitten was about 10 inches long. Kanae was delighted and looked over to see how Kakuro was doing.

Kakuro listened to Kanae and took out a piece of training clay. He then put a piece of training clay into his left hand mouth. He commanded his mouth to chew after that. He heard her as she said to use clay infusion. He had just learned that technique recently.

Kakuro used Clay Infusion to send chakra into the clay as he was chewing. He was careful not to put too much or to less chakra in the clay. He concentrated on making the chakra disperse evenly in the chislay. Kakuro spat out the clay into his hand. He listened to Kanae for the next step.

Kakuro concentrated on thinking about an animal. He wanted one
that was small and agile. The animal he finally came up with was a snake. He focused on rolling the clay into a cylinder shape. After a few moments he had a cylinder shape.

The cylinder clay only looked like a cylinder. So Kakuro decided to add some details. He shaped the mouth and the tongue. He was careful to create a forked tongue. He then made sharp clay teeth in it's mouth.

He made the eyes and put slits in them. Beneath the eyes he put two small dents with his fingernail. These were going to be the clay snake's nose. He decided that the snake was too chubby. He smoothed it out and took part of it's belly off.

Kakuro smoothed it so it looked right. He took some clay out of the snake's mouth. Now the snake could actually bite and harm someone. He took his time on the snake because he wanted it too be good. He then carefully shaped scales all over it's body.

After he finished, Kakuro listened to Kanae for instructions. When she finished talking, he placed the snake on the ground. He performed the Katsu hand seal. A small explosion of dust surrounded the snake. The dust around the snake quickly disappeared.

Kakuro looked at the snake that was now 3 inches. He watched as Kanae's kitten came to life. He wanted to be able to do that. He looked at the snake and performed the hand seal again. The snake disappeared in a small cloud of dust.

When Kakuro looked again it was 6 inches long.

“Good job,” Kanae said as Kakuro created a clay snake. “Since we’re using training clay, the clay creature will only last for 12 seconds.” As she was speaking, Kanae’s clay kitten reverted to a lump of clay. “After that the creature will look like this,” Kanae said, holding up what used to be a clay kitten. “If we were using real clay, the clay creature would last for a minute.”

“Why don’t you give it another try, Kakuro?” Kanae put the lump of clay that used to be a kitten into her mouth. She chewed on the clay, sending bursts of chakra into it. Kanae made sure the chakra was spread out evenly. This time she only chewed the clay for the required 6 seconds.

Even though Kanae was used to the clay’s taste, she still didn’t like it very much. Kanae thought about what creature she wanted to make as she began kneading the clay. She was trying to increase the size of her clay creatures, so she needed to make a creature that was bigger than a bird or kitten. Looking over at Kakuro again, she decided she would make a snake as well. Kanae carefully began shaping the clay.

Snakes really didn’t have that many features. Kanae used her fingernail to form the snake’s eyes and nose. She drew a curved horizontal line for the mouth, but didn’t add a tongue. Kanae made the tail end in a point and flipped the snake over. She added indentations to the clay snake’s underside to demarcate its scales.

Kanae couldn’t think of any other details to add to the snake. She performed the Katsu handseal and commanded the snake to stand still while she measured it. From tip to tail, the snake measured 20 inches. Kanae was thrilled with the progress she was making. As she had the snake move around on the ground, she remembered something.

“I forgot to mention something.” Kanae began. “The clay creature won’t move unless you command it to. You don’t have to say the commands out loud – thinking them is fine. There is a limit on how far the clay creature can go, though. You have to be able to see your clay creature in order to command it.”

“That means that you can’t detonate your clay creature either. There are some exceptions to this rule, but the clay creatures you’re making now will follow it. Remember that the farther away your clay creature is, the harder it is for you to control it. Why don’t you try moving your clay creature?” Kanae began moving her clay snake around to show Kakuro how it was done.

She moved the snake in simple and complicated patterns, testing its flexibility and response time. After 12 seconds, the snake became a shapeless lump of clay. Kanae hadn’t called it back to her in time, so she had to go retrieve the clay. Kanae wiped the dirt off the clay and popped it in her mouth again. She chewed on it for 6 seconds, shooting small bursts of chakra into the clay.

Kanae spit the clay into her hands and began shaping it. She decided to make a snake again. She was testing out an idea she had thought of when she was ordering her snake to move around. Kanae wanted to know if making the snake longer would make the enlarged clay creature longer too. Kanae formed the snake the same way she had the first time, but made it a little longer.

Kakuro performed the Katsu seal on the snake. He watched as his snake came to life. Kakuro listened to Kanae for his next instructions. He would have to command the snake to do something mentally. He commanded his clay snake to slither 5 feet away from him.

Kakuro waited a few minutes, but nothing happened. He was about to try again when the snake started moving. It went 5 feet away from Kakuro. He then mentally told it to come back. It still took a few minutes, but the snake slithered back.

His snake soon dissolved so he made another one. Kakuro wanted the snake to obey his orders faster. He mentally commanded it in a strict tone. This time the snake went quicker than last time. He started practicing commanding the snake so it would go faster. Soon the snake responded quickly to his command.

Kakuro wanted to see how far his snake could go. He commanded it to slither between stands. After a few minutes he lost sight of the snake. He mentally told it to come back. He waited for a few minutes and the snake was still not back.

Kakuro ran between the stands fearing the worst. When he regained sight of the snake, it came back to him. He then remembered that you can only control the snake if you can see it. He commanded the snake to follow him back. He decided that he was getting the hang of it.

Kanae formed the Katsu handseal and observed the clay snake she had created. It was definitely longer, about 25 inches this time. Even so, the snake looked odd. It seemed like it was disproportionate. It was as if someone had taken a normal-sized snake and stretched it. Kanae shook her head and called the snake back to her.

Even though it was longer, Kanae wasn’t happy with a snake. She didn’t want a clay creature that looked so ugly. Kanae waited for the snake to revert to a lump of clay and picked it up. She carefully brushed off the dust the clay snake had acquired while wriggling around on the ground. Kanae decided she would go with a different creature this time.

After all, she had to put the clay into her mouth. The taste of the clay was bad enough; Kanae didn’t want to taste dirt too. Frowning, Kanae popped the clay into her mouth. Kakuro seemed to have gotten the hang of the jutsu. That was good. Clay Life was a fundamental Sankuchi technique. You couldn’t make bombs without it.

Kanae began chewing on the clay she had placed in her mouth. Using the Clay Infusion technique, she sent small bursts of chakra into the clay. Kanae made sure that her chakra was spread out evenly in the clay. This whole process only took her about 6 seconds. Kanae spat the chakra-infused clay out into her hands.

Kanae kneaded the clay while thinking about what creature she wanted to make. She wanted to make something large so she could test the boundaries of her Clay Life technique. She didn’t want to make something ugly though. After pondering for a while, Kanae decided to make a wolf. She probably wouldn’t be able to make a full-sized wolf, but it was worth a try.

Kanae quickly formed a rough outline of the wolf. The legs, tail, and head were present but lacked details. Kanae decided to work on the wolf’s head first. Kanae began by creating a nose that protruded from the wolf’s head. She added the nose and mouth, using her fingernail to etch in fine details.

Kanae even created little holes where the whiskers would normally be. Then Kanae began working on the wolf’s ears. They were somewhat pointed, but rounded at the tips. Kanae created indentations to denote the inside of the wolf’s ears. Kanae added the eyes next.

The eyes didn’t have very much detail. Kanae just created a slanted oval with two smaller circles inside for each eye. Kanae then created a thick ruff of fur on fur on either side of the wolf’s head. Kanae examined the wolf’s freshly created face and decided that it was finished. She began working on the wolf’s tail next.

Kanae worked on capturing the fluffy nature of the wolf’s tail in her clay creature. She spent a couple of minutes working on it, making sure everything was just right. Then Kanae moved on to the wolf’s paws. Kanae made the wolf’s front paws larger than the back paws, since that’s how they actually are. Kanae carefully shaped each of the wolf’s claws, making them look razor sharp.

After the wolf’s paws were done, Kanae added several small marks to the wolf with her fingernail. These marks made it look like the wolf actually had fur instead of smooth skin. When Kanae was finished, she held the clay creature up to the light to examine her work. She was sure that she had created the most detailed three-inch wolf in existence. The thought made Kanae smile.

Kanae performed the Katsu handseal and admired her much larger creation. The clay wolf was just about 3 feet long, her largest clay creation ever. Kanae commanded the wolf to play catch with her for a little while. Kanae had fun, but too soon they clay creature reverted to a shapeless lump of clay. Kanae idly wondered what it would be like to have a real wolf as a pet.

"Well it looks like you've gotten the hang of the Clay Life jutsu," Kanae said to Kakuro. "Why don't we meet up at the Takikage Tower and take that mission for training a C Rank jutsu? I'll meet you there!" With that, Kanae waved goodbye and headed to the Takikage Tower.
