Katsu sprinted from the white dome in Minarai, snatching his Hoverboard from its buried hiding place just near the entrance and firing up the engines in a single moment, zooming off and out of the empty city. If he was going to train he wanted to do it far away from the empty city. Creeped him out! As Katsu sped across the terrain and out of the city towards a forest he began to think of exactly what kind of jutsu he should be training. There had always been a certain kind of Ninjutsu that had interested Katsu and that was the Earth Release. It had rock hard defenses and heavy offense that would certainly help Katsu fill up some of the gaps in his short-range defense and offense. Smiling to himself Katsu soon reached the arctic forest near the city, hopping off of his hoverboard and settling it next to a tree so that he knew where it was.
The first step for Katsu to complete was to learn how to form Doton chakra. Unfortunately he didn't really understand how to do that. He'd never even seen much Doton jutsu in action, let alone being told how most people formed the chakra required by them. Leaning against the tree Katsu held his hands up in front of him, trying to imagine what Doton chakra looked like. Katsu, who already had a certain level of knowledge about elemental releases, knew that in order to start forming elemental chakra you had to imagine the chakra. For Raiton chakra, for instance, Katsu imagined a great orb with a line of chakra spinning around the orb at intense speeds, blasting everything out of its path.
Concentrating Katsu tried to imagine what Earth chakra might look like. He imagined a stone in a pond, as that was the favorite representation of Earth right? Still, ever enduring stone. At least it was somewhere to start. With that Katsu changed the image in his head, making the stone motes of chakra, tightly bound together and completely immobile. Completely inert the motes of chakra weathered everything that was thrown at them, taking everything without any weakness. But Katsu could feel in his mind that this somehow wasn't right. He couldn't feel the surge of chakra that he felt when he created other types of elemental chakra. However just to be sure that this wasn't just his imagination Katsu kept up the image he had in his head, trying to sense for even the tiniest surge of power from within himself.
Finally Katsu had to admit defeat and to come around his goal from a different angle. The image in his head faded from sight as he tried to think of what he was going to try next. Yet as the minutes ticked by nothing came to mind, only for a fully fleshed image to suddenly pop into his head unbidden. The chakra stone he had formed appeared once more, but this time there was movement. Lots of it. The stone appeared to be trying to rush itself! The motes of chakra kept fighting to reach the center of the stone, crushing each other tighter and tighter together. That was not even all of it, for thousands upon thousands of motes of chakra continued to appear and rush towards the stone, becoming part of the stone and increasing its mass but never taking up more space as the motes continued to crush themselves into an ever more dense chunk of chakra.
The surge! Katsu felt the surge of chakra well up from within him, the uncontrolled burst of energy discharges from his body wildly, sinking into the earth. The earth heaved beneath Katsu, and he felt himself thrust up and away, landing on his rear as he saw the new stone his chakra had forced up through the earth. Dusting himself off Katsu gave a little whoop of victory as he stood. However he knew performing a feat once was an accident, and he had to recreate the effect before he could move on. Calming himself down with deep breathing techniques Katsu closed his eyes and began to imagine the stone crushing itself under its own power, realizing that just like the other elements Earth had a flow. It was slower, and more controlled than that of air or lightning, and far more rigid than that of water, but a flow it still had. The surge of chakra built within Katsu's chest once more, and this time Katsu deliberately tried to channel it outward and forward, trying to see if he could further raise the stone in front of him.
This time however the surge did something completely different. The stone did not raise further from broke free from the earth holding it and flung itself high into the air. Yet this was good in a way. Katsu was manipulating stone and earth! He had succeeded, he had learned how to form Doton chakra.
