Botany (Specific Region) - Grassland
Rank: "E"
Skill: Skill
Effect: A skill that allows the user to identify plants.
Special: ---
Drawback: ---
Description: A character with this skill has a basic knowledge of plants and how they grow. They know how to tell various species of plants apart and under what conditions each type of plant grows best. Most of the time they can tell poisonous plants from non-poisonous plants. User must choose a specific Region each time they go up this Skill. A successful Botany Skill check provides knowledge of plants, while failure indicates the character does not know or cannot recall anything about that plant. This knowledge is broader than the Agriculture skill, as it extends to plants (including trees) without obvious food or textile uses. Each Skill level allows the user knowledge of each Herb category (Example: Novice can identify Common Herbs, Master can identify Nearly Impossible Herbs) within a region. Here is some Difficulty Examples.
Limit: ---

It was a frigid morning, a sharp chill in the wind as it swept through the village, whistling between buildings as it sped past. The sun was low in the sky, a yellow orb giving off just enough light behind the clouds to read. Settling down in a relatively empty area was a young woman with bright blue hair and clothes that were perhaps a bit risky during this cold time of year. The raging cold didn't seem to bother her, however, and the young woman settled down in the clearing next to a small lake. The perfect spot for training just about anything she wished, whether that be ninjutsu, genjutsu, or skills. Today she decided to dwell on the latter: Skills. She knew exactly what she would read up on today. Herbs and alchemy seemed to be a useful thing. She had a small bit of knowledge pertaining plants and berries from her younger years, but she had gone so long without practicing them that she was completely at a loss... She would change that, however, and restudy them today.
So, sitting down a stack of books at her side, Seira took her spot on the ground, folding her legs underneath of her. Glancing through the top books, she pulled out a book on Botany. It was a thick book of rather small dimensions that she had obtained from the man she called Master and even father. Bound in blue leather with a clasp to keep it closed, it had a title and plant etched on the front of it that clearly labeled it as a book on Botany. With gentle fingers, she lifted the clasp and opened the book. Upon opening, aged pieces of paper tumbled out from between the pages. Papers with notes on the surrounding areas, on the plants themselves and things that just weren't included among the text that her master had scribbled down in a hasty, messy scrawl. With a slight cluck of her tongue and a shake of her head, she picked the notes up with care and stacked them in a neat pile, placing them in the back of the book.
Honestly, he could have probably made his own small novel with the notes he had written among the paper and within the confines of the book. Leafing through a few pages revealed depictions of herbs and several other illustrations. She went back to the beginning of the book after a moment and began to read. The first section was an introduction to Botany in general. She read through the book, which detailed the definitions of a Botanist and a few other basic things. She held the book carefully and gently as she read, treating it with great care as if it was something of great importance. Which, to her, it definitely was.
Botany, also known as plant science or plant biology, is the science of plant life and a branch of biology. According to the text, a botanist, as people well versed in the skill were known as, is a scientist who specializes in the field of botany. That much was pretty obvious, to be honest. The term botany is derived from the Ancient Greek word botane, which meant pasture, grass, or fodder. That term was in turn derived from boskein, or "to feed" or "to graze". The book explained that botany is the study of fungi and algae, which is studied by mycologists. The book went on to talk more about Botany and its history. Botany originated from herbalism (something else she would be learning in the future), which was the study and use of plants for their medicinal properties. There were apparently quite a few ancient and sacred texts from various counties dating as the earliest recorded memory of botany.
She read through the brief section on history before moving on to a section she was more interested in. The first region of herbs that she would be teaching herself to recognize: herbs found around the grassland regions surrounding the countryside. She would focus on the local regions, as they would be the easiest herbs to obtain, and maybe later after she mastered the skills she would learn other regions. First though, she decided to start on the grassland regions. It appeared there were quite a few of the herbs in this type of region. A lot of them had medicinal properties or could be considered more rare than others. But not all of them were for medicines. Some had other properties, such as to protect eyesight or to poison. Some were even used in foods for cooking. A few of the herbs even had the ability to rebel insects. Something that could come in handy in multiple situations.
So she leafed through the pages, reading over them, glancing at the herbs and slowly teaching herself to recognize the herbs and plants of appearance. The first step into mastering the skill was starting with the basics.

This "trait" increases the amount of die rolls by 1.5 rounded to the highest number at 1 die roll per learning, however any number higher than 1 die roll is rounded down. For example: User learns Botany and gains 5 die rolls. With this Trait they will gain 7 die rolls. However if a user learns Lockpicking they normally get 1 die roll, however with this Trait they will gain 2 die rolls.
