It had been far too long since Yoshi had been able to grow, not only as a person, but also as a shinobi. Having spent a riddiculus amount of time either in prison, or out on a dangerous quest to destroy this weapon that would fall into the hands of snow, but ironically ended up being placed onto Yoshi herself, the girl had finally found some time to rest and relax. The first thing she had done was contact one of the herbalist and botany teachers around Yabunkashou - Eleron Tailwhisker - to assist her with the practicing. Being too impatient to wait for him however, she had started reading. Figuring that the most important thing to learn, if she was going to find the ingredients she needed for her medicine, would be the different regions that would be considered special.

This first paragraph will discuss the different regions in which these elusive plants can be found. For each individual plants effects and remedy, please turn to page fourty-two. First mentionable region that one would refer to as being special, is a typical type of fauna that is most commonly found around jungle areas, although there are some exceptions to this general rule. It is a fauna where the temperature is always constant, warm, and there is an abundance of water and therefore insects and other wildlife. This type of fauna allows a rampant growth of carnivorus plants. This growth allows the Cephalophage, a very rare and small herb, the exact conditions it needs to grow. Although these fauna are rare, the herb itself is even more delicate. This fauna is most often represented in the land of Tea, Rivers, Fire and Bear.

Scratching her head softly, Yoshi wasn't quite sure she knew of a place like that, but surely some of the locals would have a better idea of what to find out in the wilderness than she did. One thing was certain, without this book she'd have had next to no chance to learn of these herbs, nor how to identify them.

Flipping the pages, the girl continued to read on, she still had at least a good fifteen minutes until Eleron would arrive. That is, if he arrived precisely on time. Having done a few deals with the Rogue's in the past, she knew not to expect that he'd arrive on time. Usually they arrived a good five minutes too early, or a good five minutes too late. The girl had figured it was about keeping you guessing what they might be up to...

The Cephalophage can best be described as a pale, light blue fungus. Consistency wise it is akin to rubber, and should one attempt to pick it, they will find it tough and durable. The fungus itself grows on cadavers, be it of animals or, more commanly, humans. The fungus is believed to be a parasite, capable of leeching onto the life-force of those who it has spread its spores upon. This parasitic connection is what botanists believes to be the reason for the fungus rather unique abilities. Absorbing the memories of those who have perished, it can grant those who eat it insight into another persons memories. Though the most common duration for this transformation is up to eight hours, it is not uncommon for a host to experience recurring memory-loss or flash-backs for multiple months afer consumption. Though this fungus has been declared unholy by some fanatics, there is no known permanent effects of eating the fungus, though its practical uses are rather limited.

The girl was scratching her head after reading the description of the fungus. Didn't exactly sound like something s he wished to get close to. The girl had enough trouble remembering everything that had happened in her own life to deal with the misery of the departed. In one word this fungus could be described as creepy. Luckily, it wasn't the plant that she needed for her medicinal mixture.

Plants were a scary thing, and they seemed capable of doing so many different things. The idea of filling ones head with memories of someone deceased wasn't exactly the first thing that the girl had wanted to do, but it was a thing nonetheless. Perhaps it could be used by someone capable of growing the mushrooms to extract all the memories of someone who had died? It was quite an interesting theory, and could possibly have its uses in figuring out why someone had died. Alas, not a herb that she wanted to get her hands on. Flipping pages, she continued to read, the clock ticking ever forward.

The second special region we wish to discuss, is an island off the coast of Kaze no kuni, an island that hasn't had much interaction with the outside world for many years, and therefore holds plants and wildlife that isn't seen anywhere else on the planet. The island of Nanakusa. On this island, there are three herbs that on other islands would be considered normal. First, there is the Nanakusa carrot. It grows during the summer, but isn't ready for consumption or usage until it has matured closer to Autumn. Appearing like a regular carrot, this can be one of the harder herbs to tell apart from the regular counterpart, although there have been no known examples of regular carrots growing on the island. The special properties of this carrot comes from the soil in which it grows. Due to special nutritional minerals and the like, the energy within the carrot can be acquired almost directly into the bloodstream, meaning it removes fatigue and exhaustion, allowing one to continue working through what others will find impossible.

Now that was an interesting herb that Yoshi could see herself using in the future. There were also, as far as she could see in the index, more herbs growing on this island, so if the other herbs were as interesting or useful to her, she might consider going there for a little trip. One could never have too many remedies and failsafes, right?

The learning process of how to identify plants was coming along rather smoothly, and the girl felt like she was getting a rather good grasp on how things were hanging together. There were a few more plants on the Nanakusa island which she'd check out, simply because she was on the pages of the book, but what she really wanted to do was read up on Dreamfoil. It'd be the last plant she'd check out, just so she had something to compare it to. Smiling to herself, she continued to read about the Nanakusa specific plants.

Nanakusa Moss, which is also exclusive to the Nanakusa island, has some of the most potent healing properties of any plant known by todays science. The moss finds its home in pools of water, thriving especially well in areas with plenty of mud. The moss rarely has time enough to fester, but when it does, there'll usually be plenty of it around. The moss can be applied to any kind of wound, and no matter how critical or dire it may seem, over the course of a couple of hours the chemical reactions the moss produces when coming into contact with the haemoglobin in blood, will cause the wound not only to close - but to heal back to an unwounded state. It has been theorised that mixing the moss together with potent antidotes can create mixtures that not only beats down any infection, poisoning or the like - but also completely restores the body back to a healthy state. Unfortunately, due to the rarity of the Nanakusa moss, not many experiments have been made.

Tilting her head to the side, the girl looked towards the bloodpills that she had in her bag. This moss was essentially capable of doing the same thing, but many times better. Not knowing if it'd ever be something that she'd need, if she did decide to ever visit the Nanakusa island, she'd be sure to keep her eyes out while approaching watery areas for this particular moss. If nothing else, it could likely be sold for quite a bit of money. Smirking to herself, she turned pages once again.

Sitting there with her head buried deep into her book, the girl didn't even realise that someone else was approaching. As it would turn out, the one she had hired to assist her in learning how to pick certain herbs, had arrived a good five minutes early. He placed his hand on her shoulder, smiling toothlessly. Eleron was ancient. The kind of herbalist who had been out there discovering the worlds herbs, writing countless of books and earning himself quite the fame amongst herbalists. Today though, all that was left of his legend were those who he taught, for new discoveries were constantly being made, and noone dabbled in the old too much...
Packing together the first of her books, she fished out the second one. Herbalism, Special Regions, and placed it on the table in front of her as Eleron hung up a blackboard on a tree and started drawing on it with white chalk. His voice was old and raspy, as if he had drank a glass of dust before coming here to teach her, but she much appreciated his assistance.

"The most *Wheeze*... isn't neccesarily being able to pick the herb, as much as it is to attempt it safely. There are many excellent herbalists who have lost their lives trying to maintain the herbs properties over their own safety. Considering there are plants out there that can near instantly claim your life, such as the Shank Shrub, you'll always want to be... *Wheeze* ... careful when approaching plants. Since you've taken interest in very rare plants, let us start by discussing safely picking those. The first step is, naturally, to identify the shrub..

Nodding silently, it made a huge amount of sense, especially for someone who was completely new to picking up plants, like Yoshinee herself. Considering that she could always spend another month or so searching for the herbs she needed if she failed to maintain the herbs properties, it would be a much more acceptable outcome than being dead. Once dead, there'd be no amount of picking herbs that would save her. Well, aside from Dreamfoil, which according to the books could actually bring someone recently dead back to life. An interesting plant...

"Is there any kind of safety gear that one could wear to reduce the chances of getting hurt, professor Eleron?" Yoshi then asked in a gentle tone, continuing to look at the blackboard and adding notes to the book she was reading in. Sure it was a rare book, but now it belonged to her, and any and all notes she could get on the subject was going to be beyond belpful when she had to go out in the field.

"For the most part any additional equipment makes it harder to handle the plans, increasing the chance of ruining the herbs properties. That is why your knowledge and skill is so important. There's no known plants that cannot be handled if you know what you're doing my dear. Lets move on to the next subject, though. Most of the plants maintain their properties only if they're handled properly. Naturally this properly changes from plant to plant. A good example is the Nanakusa moss. It thrives in mud and water. Thus, adding a bit of those ingredients to a vial before harvesting the moss itself allows you to artificially prolong the duration through which the ingredients can be utilised. Eventually though, all ingredients will go bad, unless they're of a sort that can be dried..."

Tilting her head to the side, this made Yoshi wonder wheter she needed to actually create the medicine right at the spot of where she was to find the dreamfoil. Groaning lowly to herself in frustration, she nodded in understanding, adding the notes to the book. The book, for the most part, was concentrated on picking the herbs - not using them.

Sitting there, she was scribbling notes with the pen, calm and collected as she was listening on to the lesson. A lesson that had come hard earned. A lesson that, although the old man was wheezing and coughing quite a bit, she caught a lot of good information from. Raising her hand, she looked at Eleron and waited until he nodded in her direction so that she could continue to ask questions.
"How does one know if a herb can be dried while maintaining its properties? Is there any rule of thumb?"

Eleron chuckled heartily, before coughing lowly, looking as if he was about to fall over at any minute. It was often that he had to teach a bit of botany and herbalism to people. It was rare however, that people kept asking technical questions that should only be asked by masters. A peculiar girl he had found here. A girl that he very much enjoyed teaching.
"The more water a herb requires to live, the less likely it is to retain its qualities when being dried up. It is believed that any herb can maintain its qualities though, it just requires the right form of handling. The Nanakusa moss for instance practically grows and thrives in water, but if you're cautious and dry it over a long duration, it will maintain enough of its properties to create salve, or even be used in the bloodpills you have in your bag. The Nanakusa carrot on the other hand, would have to be dried up reasonably fast, or it would go bad to mold and rot. The more skilled you gain with herbalism, the more capable of handling these materials you'll be. This was where the girls ears truly sharpened. Eleron had just mentioned the herb that she was the most interested in, the dreamfoil. Although the gathering of the other plants was indeed interesting and something that she wished to eventually master, the true goal for these training sessions and all the reading, was finding the dreamfoil. So tilting her head to the side, the girl went right at it, asking the question straight up. "Truth be told, I am hunting the Dreamfoil. If you'd be so kind as to tell me how I am to handle this rare herb, I would be much satisfied with your assistance.

Chuckling, it wasn't that Eleron had figured out what the girl was truly after, just that it was a herb which was quite a ways different to most other herbs. A herb with a truly terrifying skill and uses that went beyond this realm of mortals. "Well, the Dreamfoil, huh. One of the rarest plants, with the ability to restore life, or take it away. In fact, the dreamfoil is rather easy to harvest once you come upon it. It claims the chakra from the ground itself, using it to sustain its own existance. Due to this connection, attempting to remove the Dreamfoil from its soil, will cause it to die. Once the herb has died, all the useful energy will be spilled. The plant itself however, isn't important. Its the plumes. As long as you're capable of removing the plumes from the plant without disrupting the connection between plant and plume. Succesfully harvesting the plant can yield between ten and thirty hops at once. Though, the hops have to be prepared after usage, or they'll go bad quickly. Each plume should give one dosage, if handled right..."

It sounded reasonably simple. As far as Yoshi knew, she'd only require a mere three plumes to create the medicine that would spark the final stage of the cursed seal on her. Rubbing her chest where the seal was planted, she groaned lowly. This was quite a pain to learn, but it had to be done. There was no other way around it.

Preparation: The dreamfoil plumes must be soaked in the catalyst for 2 weeks before use. The creator must first put on gloves to protect them from the potential hazard of the Belladonna leaf. The leaves of the belladonna are collected and then ground together within a mortar and pestle. These ground leaves are then placed into a pot of boiling water and left to simmer together with water for ten minutes. After that, they are stirred and taken off the stove. The user will then dice the dreamfoil plums into tiny pieces. These pieces are then placed into the boiling pot and placed back on the stove, stirring every five minutes. While this is occurring, the creator should take ten bulbs of the hops plant and soak them in alcohol, letting them soak for ten minutes. After they have soaked, the user will dice them and place them into the boiling pot of water. They are stirred for another ten minutes together then taken off the fire. The alcohol from before is dumped into the pan, and is then stirred. The heat will have caused all of the plants to dissolve into a liquid syrup. Looking up to him, everything had been noted. The girl knew everything she could about the herbs in special regions. Knew everything there was to attaining what values their stash held. So the only thing left for her to do, was learn how to prepare the medicine that she was in desperate need of. Aside from the dreamfoil, the other ingredients were relatively commonplace, simple to acquire. It was the handling of everything that needed to be absolutely perfect. It was an old, ancient recipe, unrelated to alchemy or rituals. It was a specific recipe, meant only for those who had acquired the cursed seal. Sighing softly, the girl rose her head, looking at Eleron. "The real reason why I have called you here, is this. It is called the Seishingan, and is a medicine made for pulling out everything within a person. To reach the absolute eclipse of chakra manipulation, to reach the heights of enlightenment. I request your assistance and direction in mixing this drug. There are certain herbs that have no other usage but in this formulae. I beseek you of your knowledge."

Handing over the ancient script of the medicine to Eleron, the old man almost fell backwards onto his ass as he started to read. A very volatile mixture, and even the slightest mistake could cause it to backfire, killing whoever consumed it. Let alone the fact that it seemed to activate every chakra point in the body. It would drain your average person completely dry, before leaving them to die, unable to fend for themselves, unable to produce chakra, simply withering away like a plant. Looking to the girl, then back to the parchment, he took a deep breath, waving for the girl to follow him. So they travelled, not long, but for a while, coming upon an old wooden shack. Unlocking the door, Eleron went inside, allowing Yoshi to follow in his footsteps.
"I can teach you to follow the recipe, but I cannot guarantee that you will survive eating the result. This kind of combination is at a level where even I can expect to make mistakes the first couple of times. Mistakes you cannot afford to make with such rare ingredients. So, we'll attempt to do it with fauxes. I have other ingredients that will have the same reaction to being handled, so you can practice on those. First, allow me to follow the whole description."
With that said and done, Eleron stood over to a small laboratory that he had kept within his home for years. It was obvious to Yoshi. The man hungered for more knowledge, and had just been given a rare treat. A treat that not many would see or hear of in their lifetime. It was clicking in his brain, wheter he could or couldn't do it. In either case, it was an amusing prospect, sitting back into the chair and watching the old man work, keeping an eye out for his process so that she could copy it as efficiently as possible.

The first thing he did, was clean out his mortar and pestle, burning them both under a bright hot flame. Removing all the impurities, before going to work on a series of leaves. Grinding them into a fine dust, the old man had made sure that there wasn't even a single speck that wasn't ground into dust. Specks could effect the medicine and cost the girl her life, he had to be thorough, even if it was only an event running through his mind. It amused Yoshi quite a deal.

After having grounded the leaves into an extremely delicate dust, Eleron carefully poured the mixture over into a vial. A vial that he could have over open flame, with the intent of making the water burn and have the grounded leaves settle. Waiting there patiently as the water began to boil, he took out plumes that were clearly meant to signify the Dreamfoil, cutting them into delicate pieces before adding them to the boiling water after the time indicated on the note had passed. A strange smell was coming from the vial, though the girl could only assume that it would have a vastly different scent once it came into contact with actual Dreamfoil. Simultaneously as the Dreamfoil lookalike had been added to the vial, Eleron started soaking hops in a strong alcohol. The purposes which it was meant to serve seemed to elude Yoshi. It didn't seem to make sense for the recipe, but it was a point that she was willing to forfeit. As long as the medicine in the end came out the way she needed it to, she'd soak the damn thing in liquid gold.

"It is very important that you turn down the heat once the water starts boiling. Continuing with the same heat you'll just end up burning all the minerals out of the mixture, instead of having it condense into an actual pill. Keeping on the heat isn't going to serve you any good. The alcohol soaked hops may actually catch on fire from the rising steam if you're building too much pressure in the vial. Gotta be gentle with it y'know."

Eleron spoke, probably as much to himself as he was speaking to Yoshi. An amusing thought, as he turned down the bright flame to instead gain an essence of yellow within. The mixture continued to boil, but there was a larger interval between the bubbles within, and there was less steam coming out the top. It was an age old knowledge that if oil caught on fire and water was added into the mix you could have a fireball explosion. It probably wasn't much different if the same thing was done with alcohol and water. Caution and patience seemed to be the name of the game. Except, being too patient would lead to the ingredients being ruined. Chuckling to herself, it was a lot harder actually getting this done than it first appeared. Then again, not everyone could follow a simple cooking recipe either...

Eleron was working slow, yet competently, as he further turned down the heat of the flame around the vial. Taking a sniff over the top of the vial, he nodded to himself, content with how it was scented. Raising an eyebrow, Yoshi couldn't help but ask him of that little movement. "Excuse me, but what is the point of taking in the scent of your mixture? Don't you risk all sorts of sideeffects?" Eleron chuckled, amused that the girl had caught onto his little quirk. While slicing up the hops that had soaked in the alchohol with scarily precision for a man of his age. There was no doubt that he was used to handling knives and tools.

"Truth be told, there are some mixtures where you definitely do not want to have your nose close to the fumes. Alas, this is not one of them. If you scent the fumes carefully, you can tell if the ingredients are being properly boiled or not. Even if there is a timer, that doesn't always mean you can expect the same result. Gear and nature can play tricks on you. If you don't pay attention to small changes, you'll wind up dead just following the recipe, dear. Come here, take a whiff."

Getting up from her seated position, Yoshi stuck her nose over the vial, taking a brief whif of the fumes that were leaving from the slowly boiling mixture. Much to her suprise, she could actually tell the difference between the scent of fresh hops, and the ones that were currently boiling at the bottum of the vial. Eleron continued to speak, giving her some serious lessons in herbs and their uses. "Once the scent no longer changes, the herb has been properly boiled. It is at that exact moment you'll want to stop exposing the vial to the flames, or the herbs within will go bad."

The transformation within was rahter obvious, as the alcohol was added to the mixture. Everything was so thick, and had practically boiled together to become a single essence thing. After the alcohol was added, Eleron stood there in place, simply stirring until it all came together completely. Pouring the mix into a tray that was formed like a pill, he then closed it together and placed it within the fridge with a soft sight. "The real thing will have to cool for a lot longer than what we have going here. We'll want to get a pill with a smooth surface. It indicates that there are no impurities within. The impurities are whats dangerous, do not even attempt to eat a pill that has cracked or isn't whole!" Eleron said, Yoshi merely nodding and adding it into her notes. This was turning out to be the most boring lesson, but also the most important one. Sighing softly, the girl sat there, waiting for the beep of the clock, that would indicate the pill could be removed from the fridge.

Sitting in the chair, the girls head was literally starting to bop, as there had to be nothing more boring than waiting for an event to take place. Just as the girl was about to fall asleep on her chair, having sat there, waiting impatiently for at least half an hour, the clock finally came alive with a series of clicks. For a short moment, Yoshi might've expected Eleron to come around with a pair of oven mitts and exclaim that the cake had finally finished, but instead he turned to the fridge, opening it and pulling out the pill. Placing it on the table in front of Yoshi, the girl could see what he meant. The surface was absolutely clean, like a materpiece. If the light shone properly onto it, she was certain that she could see her own reflection within it. This was how the pill was meant to look, and this was the only thing that she could get away with eating. Anything below this standard, would more likely leave her for dead than do the things she wished it would. Nodding softly, the girl looked to Eleron. "You truly are a master of your craft. Please, instruct me as I attempt to replicate the process."

Eleron nodded, taking the seated place that Yoshi had been in while she prepared herself at the tiny laboratory. The first thing she did, was naturally check that she had all the ingredients and tools that she needed to create the pill. Then, with the flame, she started burning away the impurities left by Eleron when he had created his own pill. Cleansing the vials with boiling water to top it off, the whole process took a bit, but it had proved that she was well aware of how careful she needed to be that everything was in the most perfect condition. After having cleaned the instruments, the girl placed them all on their seperate piece of paper, to ensure that they didn't come into contact with the table, should Eleron have dropped anything while he was preparing his own batch just a moment ago. Then the girl started, taking a series of leaves and starting to grind them in the mortar with the pestle. The girl wasn't working fast, and wasn't trying to squish the leaves as quickly as possible. No, she was slow and thorough, having realised that this particular step to the process didn't require her to be fast. As the leaves had been ground down to a fine powder, and she had made absolutely sure that there was nothing that could create humps or clumps of leaf, she carefully poured the dust into the vial. Waiting for the water to begin boiling, she then carefully added the hops to the alcohol. At least now it'd line up with each other properly...
