Festungstadt, Embassy of YukigakureAs an act of friendship by a Daimyo many years ago, a great fortress was handed over to the Lord Yukikage. Festungstadt is one of the greatest sturctures in Yozamu, and is an architecural marvel. With its grey stone walls, ranging from 10 meters to 20 meters tall, its tall domes and towers, its clocks and its bricks, its fences and its gilt, it is one of the most vibrant buildings in all the frozen north. While slowly fading, it still is a tremendous monument to the greatness of the Nix people. While the embassy takes up only a small portion of the tremendous space which is contained within the walls of Festungstadt, the whole thing, by right of inheritance, belongs to Yukigakure, and they may expand their operations within it as they please.
The outer gate is heavily fortified. The wall is thick and twenty meters high, constructed of smooth stone, and therefore is very difficult to scale. The only truly viable way in is through a gate, which is guarded and closed most of the day. The gate is cast iron, two inches thick, and two guards are there at most shifts. Torch scones are placed liberally, providing ample light for those who might need it, but little of shadows for thosethat prefer them.
The top of the wall is platform which guards walk periodically. While they carry torches, most nights around sunset the braziers are lit. Of course, during the long nights of the Yuki no Kuni winter, there is very little time when they are not burning, so the warm ashes which pile up are spread on the wall, melting the snow and the ice and guaranteeing traction.
Once one is through the wall, they are in a giant and enclosed courtyard. Only the bit around the main entrance is decorated of course. That part has stone statues, decoration galore, a glass roof to keep the snow out, a few fireplaces placed around, benches, and a walkway paved with stones that match the wall perfectly. While the ground is heaved by frost and thaw every year, its still a relatively nice courtyard, and not a bad place to be.
Once you reach the actual building that is the embassy, which can be done by opening one of two large doors, you a greeted with a posh foyer full of marble and chandeliers. A tremendously nice feel, full of chairs and benches and paintings, with a reception desk at the end. The receptionists generally dress to match the color scheme, as they are selected based on personality and functionality as a public face. While they are capable of insight and observation, they do not know much of the inner workings of Yukigakure. The desk is full of books listing the names, signatures and times of arrival of all who enter. The receptionist also has, in a small hidden compartment, a list of all the ninja who are currently active under the Hidden Village of Snow.
One of the most important rooms is the meeting room. Also known as the crisis room, it is the premier location for large meetings between powers both foreign and local and the Yukikage. It is a nice room with yellow walls and maroon details. The table is a large oval shape and polished wood. Nearly undetectable marks in the table show it can be reduced in size, and portions of it can be taken out to allow for smaller meetings. The windows, while present, are cut and etched so that none can see exactly who is inside, but the lighting is wonderful during day time. At night the chandeliers are lit, and the mood is more ominous. A famous painting sits at the end of the table. The chairs are surprisingly comfortable. The place also contains four bedrooms. They are lavishly appointed, full of the fanciest furnishing available, truly suitable for a lord. The nicest one of them all has a wintry theme to it, with paintings of snow capped mountains and a beautiful blue and white rug. Littered with village symbolism, it is where the head diplomat lives most of the time, but when the Yukikage visits, the room is deferred to him.In the basement, a sort of a dungeon has been created. It contains a small handful of holding cells, each appointed with a small cot, a small receptacle for waste and iron bars. There is a small bench here for guards to linger on when they are on duty. A small fireplace keeps the room from becoming unbearably cold; although sometimes the room is intentionally allowed to freeze.Gatehouse
