The distance augmentation ritual was next on Yoko's list. The reason for this and the name of the technique should have been pretty apparent to all who listened to it. But the general idea was to boost the weapons range so that they could be of more use on the battlefield. This served a two-fold purpose for the young Mizukage, the first being her long-distance sniping attacks could attack from a marginally higher distance and the second was that her close range quadrant, although obviously the effect on this was lower.

The seal itself was very basic as one would expect from something in the minor class, however, unlike the blood tracking ritual she had just learned there was no noticeable modification to the weapon. Nothing that gave away the fact that its range was increased. Further adding to the element of surprise, especially if added to something like a kunai. An opponent could expect the weapon to only travel a set distance and thus not guard against it, leaving them exposed to the distance enchanted weapon.

Unlike the some of the other rituals that Yoko had read over this ritual did not require a specific inscribed into the weapon, instead, you formed a ritualistic circle around it performed the enchantment and then went on your merry way. No visible sign what so ever that the technique had been carried out. This, of course, means that you would have to test the weapon out to see whether or not it had been a success, as it was rather difficult to fully understand whether it was a success without measuring the range you could now fire it from.

Yoko had decided to study the art of gem crafting, with a clear purpose in mind she knew that she wanted to fashion her very own set of gemmed gear. Something that was well suited to stealth activities. Now, of course, the young already wore several gems, and could indeed have purchased more; however, what she wanted was a higher grade than what could typically be purchased from a store. She wanted a perfected version of the gems. Thus, she set about learning the skills that underpinned the crafting art.

It was during this study, no more than a few pages into her book that the youth discovered the existence of various “paths” that alchemists apparently progressed down: Brewmeister, Crystalmancy, and Demolition. Upon reading through the various notations, the youth decided upon the Crystalmancy path, as further brewmeister techniques offered no real benefit to her. The technical path, on the other hand, boosted an impressive benefit in certain skills.

Skills that Yoko used on a regular basis, as a result, she would be able to make use of almost all of this particular version of the technique perhaps with the exception of adding a hidden meaning, as at the moment she saw no real purpose in applying this to her gem. The other advantages, however? Well, she needed to read up on them more to fully understand what they could offer her, and whether or not she would benefit from applying them to her gem.

Yoko had achieved her goal of becoming a master alchemist, yet her desire to create had not been sated. Instead, it seemed that she should turn her attention towards one of the artisan paths. There were many paths that the youth wanted to study and learn, from the intricate art of creating garments, to the way in which blades were forged. At present, she only possessed a rudimentary understanding. Thus, it was essential in her mind at least to commit herself to a singular path for the time being at least.

To aid her in this endeavour the youth used one of her trusty books, it promised to offer a rather basic description of all the crafting works she believed that if she read through it diligently then she would gain a better understanding of where she was to start, which art to study. She skimmed through the book for a good thirty minutes or so building up an idea of all of the different processes and means of working the materials.

It was through this diligent study that she built up an idea of what she wanted to pursue, for the time being, namely, the art of making jewellery. By specialising in this particular type of crafting she would no doubt see a benefit in her work and speed of crafting. She remembered when she first started her training of alchemy the tasks could take her several days to complete where she was now able to complete them in a few minutes. Thus, if she was to do this to a high standard she would need to replicate her success with this new type of crafting.

Now that the youth had a clear idea of what she wanted to create she simply had to research the means by which to craft it at the optimal speed. During her training as an alchemist she had learned how to create two potions at the same time, and even four explosive devices at any given time allowing her to achieve economy of a scale where here other peers could not: she could produce more items in a given period thus allowing her to reduce her overheads and consequently charge less while still maintaining a high-profit margin.

If she was to replicate this with the crafting of physical items then she needed to find a means by which she could work on two separate items at any given time, items that did not have to be the same. Naturally, this meant that she needed to be conformable with equipment in its various forms, and given her first project was to be a set of jewellery it made a lot of sense that she started there. Consequently, she set up at her station and started to review the pattern that she was to be working off.

In her mind she needed to be able to visualise both of the objects at once, to avoid a large slippage in time between the projects: if she lost where she was on a project and had to spend time finding where she left off then any advantage she could have obtained would have been negated. Thus, she decided to start off with a set of rings, rather unremarkable rings that she intended to fashion from silver. This was after all the basis of her design that she intended to carry out.

It was around this time that she started to realise the key components that overlapped in the design that she could work on at the same time. Clearly, it would be difficult to work both metals at the same exact time, but there was nothing stopping her from heating them at the same times. Or, she could elect to have one metal heating as she worked the other, changing them so that her dead time of waiting around was minimised.

Now that she thought about it there were plenty of ways to optimize the production of various items, especially when they were made from the same subtype of materials: metals could be easily worked together, but wood and a metal perhaps not. Thus, the question was raised, what if she wanted to use a metal for one ring and a wood for the other? Well for a start the lava forge was out of the question, its powerful heat would ignite the wood.

Instead, she would need to find a way in which she could split her time without the use of a shadow clone or similar cloning technique. She sat for a few minutes contemplating this idea trying to visualise which things overlapped in the perpetration of the materials, what could she do at the same time? People had been known to work a caster's staff at the same time as a fighter's armour, and it was this optimization that she needed to acquire.

Perhaps a theoretical understanding would not be sufficient to correctly put this technique into practice, instead, the youth jumped to her feet and fired up the forge with the intent of getting to work on a prototype. Once everything was set up she made one final check to see that everything was in hand along with to mentally plan out the process that she was to follow. Once she was confident that she knew the sequence of events that needed to be carried out she set to work.

The first step was to heat the metal to a workable temperature, that meant that the iron had to be taken from its cold state to a red hot one. This in and of itself required quite a bit of time, but thanks to the use of the specialised equipment the youth processed this time was ere considerably reduced, instead of allowing her to start to hammer away at the first ring within some twenty-second while leaving the other in the forge to continue heating.

With the art of forging two items at the same time out of the way the next step in her progression was clear, she was to double down on the art of creating masterworked items. After all, the end product that she wanted to create was perfected, so it made sense to seek to enhance her understanding of what made something a cut above the norm. First, she needed to understand what a masterwork weapon was in general, she had a perfected bow, two in fact. But what separated the bows that she possessed from a store purchased one?

What did the crafter do that she would need to incorporate into her procedure? Well, it was said that all magical items were in fact master worked, but the same did not hold true, all master worked items were not inherently magical. Thus, the youth had to assume that there was something tangible about the process something that could be done that differentiated the two items from one another, after all, why was it that a seal would work on one but not the other.

Yoko looked into the process once again, noting the small adjustments that a master made compared to what the textbooks recommended. The whole process was like the way she brewed potions, she knew shortcuts, ways in which to change the ratios of the ingredients for a better yield or result, even when to substitute something out or to add an extract to have a better effect. Clearly, this same knowledge needed to be applied to the artisan path as a whole to create a higher standard of item.

As an accomplished alchemist, Yoko was no stranger to the idea of bottling the essence of an elemental to use to either fan the flame of a fire based technique turning it into a supernova, or use the healing properties of a water elemental to speed one's recovery. She also held little doubt that there was a means by which an alchemist could use the very essence of the creature to create a tonic that would imbue their resistances into the drinker.

And it was this very train of thought that had led the youth into pursuing her latest technique, or fūinjutsu to be exact. The elemental resistance technique that would imbue the object with a special property that offered additional resistance against an element. It all sounded very proper on paper, but what did it actually mean what were the facts and figures, how could she use this technique to her advantage. She picked up one of the many thick tomes that the village held and began her reading on the topic.

It seemed that the ritual offered resistance against four, no five different elements. The craftsperson had to decide on the effect at creation but even so, it was no laughing matter. Yoko knew that this new found information increased the number of objects that she needed to create by how many were still unknown to her, but she could feel it. This was a ritual that she wanted to utilise, she read on in an effort to discover the inner workings of the ritual.

It seemed like so many of the fūinjutsu, that the end effect was directly proportional to the power level of the caster, or to be more exact their skill with the technique in question. A relatively unskilled practitioner would have been able to use this technique to offer some minor benefits—in fact, Yoko held little doubt that she could attempt it right now and gain some kind of boon—the real question, however, was how did she further augment its power.

First she started by reading exactly what the next step of the process entailed, the technique currently offered five resistance against the given element with a quasi shield of fifty, the numbers themselves were terms used throughout the literature of the great halls meant as a benchmark by which one could measure their own power and that of other techniques against a standardised measurement, in this case, it means that the technique could resist about as much as a fresh out of the academy taijutsu master.

Quite a bit of damage, when one considered that even a mid-tier genjutsu or ninjutsu master, one that could be expected to pass the chunin exams would likely have around that level if not marginally more—per recollection at least. Yes, the information was rather anecdotal, but from the sparing matches, the youth had seen people had been able to resist very little in the way of direct hits. And while she was confident in her abilities to take more damage than most, her style of sneaking in with ranged attacks certainly left her open to close combat damage or elemental effects.

Under normal circumstances, Yoko would have continued onwards and learned the higher level of the technique. Alas, she was not yet in the possession of the ritual nor the knowledge required to advance to that stage. Instead, she was forced to move on to something else, in this given example she elected to move on to the study of a different ritual namely one entitled Cunning. A boastful name if she had ever heard one.

After all the adjective was rarely used about oneself. Yoko carefully read through the details of the ritual, attaching a small post-it note to the upper corner as a reference point should she need to return to the page at a later date. In short, the technique served to bolster one's knowledge of academia, it did not bolster it in the sense of adding new information drawn down from the cosmos. And while the youth did not doubt that this would be obtainable she realised instead that the seal merely augmented what was already there.

That was to say that it greeted the proverbial gears in the user's mind, opening up distant memories from a time once forgot, or sharping their focus. The end result was always the same although the means by which it was accomplished seemed to vary on a case by case basis. Of course, the effect was somewhat limited. However even with that being said she knew that it was a good fit for what she wanted to accomplish. Namely, she recognized that there would be situations in which an added level of assurance to her conclusion was desirable.

Further study into the particulars of the ritual revealed that the skill was limited to purely academic matters, a rather interesting fact that should not be underestimated given the vast amount of skills that related solely to the more practical fields. Even so, the addition of a skill like that could still be of some value. The more pressing question was how could she augment the skills even further. Yoko continued to read through the book looking for trace information that could be used.

But like anything books could only really offer so much information, and in the case of this ritual, it seemed that outside of how to perform the most basic variation there was a lack of information on how the higher tier effects were accomplished. It did, however, offer information about how at a higher level a quick sharp burst of heightened knowledge could be obtained, for those moments in which a minor boon was not quite enough.

The examples of when this would be of use were plentiful, from a meeting with a foreign duplicate to the decoding or encoding of a message. All moments in which one wanted to be on their A-game, and it seemed that this ritual offered the means by which one could accomplish that goal. All that the youth needed to do was advance her understanding further and take it. Alas like the former ritual she lacked the required knowledge at this stage to advance any further.
