The two sisters continued on with their theme of GenJutsu enhancements, choosing the dark arts primarily for their discussions as of late considering they both held an expanse of mutual understanding on the subject. Matsunaga described in detail which ways to augment illusions, and Harue had deja vu as someone with augmentations made upon her own body.

It was almost within the same realm as the title 'augmentation' suggested. “It’s the ability to infuse your Gen jutsus with the sensual qualities we possess as beings. Auditory, olfactory, temperamental, visualization,” she was saying, and Harue thought of those implications one by one as she introduced them.

She could add heat to a shadow being? She could add a swampy odor to an enchantment? It sounded silly when she said it in her head, but as her sister described it to her it did not sound so outlandish. Harue wanted to test that one out specifically, but Matsunaga claimed that it was a rather easy enough feat. It was no more than going the extra mental and metaphysical step to add the 'spices' to its base jutsu in the future.

Tactile Illusion

”Furthermore, about adding sensual qualities to your GenJutsu,” Harue thought first of sensuality before she did the senses, despite having just discussed them. She kept it to herself with a stifled noise, but Matsunaga continued as if she hadn’t heard it. “You can create a tactile sensation to accompany your jutsu.”

Harue had a moment of thought before voicing her confusion. ”Tactile?” She parroted dumbly. Matsunaga nodded, setting her tea down and swallowing the warm liquid before responding. “Yes. Tactile. A prohibition by touch.” Harue hadn’t really heard of it before.

Matsunaga was patient, kind. “You can create the sensation that a lingering illusion offers a sort of barrier. It’s a way to confuse your opponent, in a way, and invoke a response in their nervous system which stops them from proceeding.” Harue nodded, thinking she’d got it. Only after Matsunaga demonstrated did the pink sister really understand.

Just as Matsunaga began to go deeper into the description of augmenting basic and nonbasic shadows, Harue pipes up quickly. ”Oh,” she blurts. ”I do know a bit of that. In my efficiency with Shadows I’ve found I can increase their reality, so to speak.”

Smiling, Matsunaga nodded. ”Yes, so to speak. I’m curious though. To what percentage do you think you've been able to increase their realities, sister?” Harue thought about it for a moment, and confessed that it couldn’t be any more than 20%.

To this Matsunaga nodded again, smiling still. “Good, great! You’re well on the way to being a master of the shadows like not many others. There is a way to strengthen them even further though, and I’m glad you already have a beginner’s grasp on the concept. The most of it is only more of the same, truthfully.”

Harue nodded for the umpteenth time, thankful that it was at least within the realms of something that she already had an understanding of. She was glad to have a foot level with Matsunaga as she begins to go into detail about the potency of created shadows.

“As you know you can create a more tangible shadow,” she’s saying, hands on her tea cup. “It is not out of thin air though. It is from within the chakra you use to mold, and adding more chakra to the shadows is what gives it more substance. In a way, you are granting it a part of you.

“A part of your life, as is your chakra your life source. As I mentioned, we see life - we can also give life. As through the Benshutsu with a transference of your chakra so is this to the shadows.” That perplexed Harue, placing a doubt into her mind.

”But...the reality of my shadows doesn’t reflect our kekkei genkai,” she says, her face skewered. ”You’re not suggesting that I can strengthen my shadows and illusions with the Tasukeru, are you?” Although she sounded mildly accusatory, she was only curious, thinking. Lowkey hopeful. 

Matsunaga shakes her head though, thwarting Harue’s ideas. “No, I’m afraid our kekkei genkai only offers a different perspective. It doesn’t directly effect the substance of our illusions, but it’s useful to apply those same processes to these types of enhancements. Chakra of chakra of life and all that.”

Harue nodded, listening, tallying away every bit of information that Matsunaga explains to her and saving it for another day where she’d need to physically apply the lessons. Her sister continued to describe augmenting shadows in the last of her details, Harue’s head nodding here and there when she understood.

”You assessed that your shadows currently withhold a certain level of reality substance earlier. Around 20% you said?” Harue nods but there is no time to interject, but there is also no reason to. She wasn’t wrong. “I wouldn’t say it’s the maximum, but you can easily bump that percentage up by another 20.”

While she talked on, Harue perked up. A 40% substance to shadows? It didn’t seem like a lot, but in comparison to what she was capable of now it was considerable. Fourty percent was just a cusp under fifty percent, and something that was half real was as close to solid as she was. In a way, her shadows could be as real as she was, but she’d turned her own substance down voluntarily.

It was the opposite effect on her shadows, but instead with the use of more chakra. It was easy in concept, as Matsunaga liked to so often say, but it would bit a bit more complex in the moment. In the distance, Harue began erecting shadows and forcing more and more chakra into them as an exercise for the back of her mind.

Imbue Illusion

Effect: User can grant illusions they create the ability to perform Jutsus.

Drawback: Must know the Jutsu they wish to imbue. Illusion may only perform what User knows.
Description: User can transfer some of their Chakra, and the ability to perform them, to a Figment, Glamour, Pattern, Phantasm, or Shadow they are creating. User must actively direct the illusion to perform the Jutsu or set a trigger condition of the Illusion (which may be a special word) when performing the Jutsu. The event that triggers the Illusion can be general or as special and detailed as desired, but must be based on an audible, tactile, olfactory, or visual trigger. The trigger may not be based on some quality that is not normally obvious to the sense, such as alignment. Only Jutsus from the following categories can be used by Illusions: Releases, Universal NinJutsu, and GenJutsus. Matsunaga noticed the figment of shadow Harue was attempting to mold more life into and smiled, turning in her seat wholly. Harue followed suit, finally looking at her thing now. It was a replica of her, cast from shadows, and she was working hard to infuse it with more chakra as her sister had suggested.

Matsunaga spoke as though she were seeing something fascinating. “Very good. It’s nice to know we are on the same wavelength. Now that you have created this shadow with more chakra, I want you to infuse it with even more, if you will.”

”More?” Harue gaped, glancing to her sister and back to her fair shadow. ”What good will more do? I feel as though it’s already-” Matsunaga cut her off not unkindly, still smiling. “I have more to show you,” she said simply, eyes glittering. Harue swallowed thickly. What had gotten into her?

Regardless of how unorthodox of her sister it was, Harue obliged and tapped further into her creation, beginning to drain a healthy portion of her chakra into it to please her sister. She was still confused, she wasn’t saying anything yet, but she continued nonetheless.

”Good,” Matsunaga said and Harue realized now that she had activated her Tasukeru, glancing over momentarily to catch her expression but instead only finding a red glow behind her thick lashes. She was surveying Harue’s shadow creation closely, watching the chakra. “Very good.”

Harue furrowed her brow and opened her mouth to inquiry this silly game, but Matsunaga spoke up first. “Now grant it the ability to do as you do. You are its role model, it cannot break your limits for you, but it can take on your attributes. Your chakra is its now, and so are the things that come with it.”

For another time Harue frowned doubtfully. ”Can it see through my eyes?” To someone else her question seemed ambiguous, but Matsunaga knew exactly what she meant. She shook her head slowly. “I’m afraid not. Perhaps it cannot fit perfectly to you, it is a shadow after all.”

Harue was fed up with being confused and lost, dragged behind her sister’s silly lessons. ”Where are you going with this...?” She hawed, but Matsunaga’s weirdly giddy atmosphere did not shift. She turned her glowing red eyes to Harue expectantly, still glittering.

“I’m just excited to show you from beyond here. You’re growing admirably and quickly.” Scarlet eyes under purple hair turns back to Harue’s specimen. “And your shadow here is also growing admirably. Have it cast a jutsu, if you will. Perhaps NinJutsu, if you are able…?”

Smiling now, Harue nodded firmly. ”I am. It is,” she said smoothly, but her cool factor went back down as soon as she shifted her attention back to her created shadow with the ability now to cast her jutsu. She hesitated audibly before asking carefully, ”Uh… how would I do that again?”

Matsunaga figured that was her fault. She hadn’t actually told Harue how to rig the trigger in the first place, now did she? Still patient and kind, Matsunaga had Harue deconstruct her creation so that she could erect another properly this time.

“Infuse it with the knowing,” Matsunaga said, as if she were an enigmatic riddlespinner. “You must grant it the understanding of what it’s to do as well as what is is capable of doing. Your trigger to it is whatever you make it, so long as it can comprehend it.” It was utterly unhelpful but gave Harue the direction she needed.

This time her illusion was more precise, and when she raised a casual wrist parallel to her shoulder with a flick of her wrist, the illusion she’d created knowingly reaches into its synthetic core without movement to pull out a fraction of futon chakra, kicking up a soft wind to carry through the area. Matsunaga gave a singular clap under her chin as the glow of her red eyes dissipates. “Very good!”

Infuse Reality

Description: A reality-infused illusion is quasi-real, like the shadow GenJutsu. Damaging Jutsus still deal the portion of their damage that is real even if the Jutsu is recognized as an illusion. Non-damaging effects have no effect when they are recognized as illusory. Jutsu Handseal/Chakra Increase: 1/2 Rank per 20% of the Jutsu that is real, up to a maximum of 60%.
Limit: Must learn from Universal GenJutsu. Must know Shadow Perception.

It seemed there were a number of enhancements that could be fixed onto a plethora of different GenJutsu and Matsunaga intended to show each of them to Harue. It made her wonder if there would be any stones left unturned, whether or not they may be useful to Harue in the future. She wanted to share her abilities with Harue and for that the pink twin was grateful.

“Now that the core of your shadows are that much stronger,” she’s saying, excitement still ringing under her tone. She was so much different from the placid and mysterious girl Harue had met before. She noticed the hints of human in her now, even as she spoke of the reality of illusions. “You can easily use that shadow energy to strengthen your other GenJutsu.”

Harue perked up. ”You don’t mean, like, infusing shadow chakra into something like compulsion, do you?” She was curious because that sounded ever so enticing. Surely mixing and maxing perceptual prowess would be devastating to someone of lesser will. Harue was excited.

”In a way, that’s almost exactly what I mean,” Matsunaga said, but her voice shifted then. “But it is also the complete opposite. As are many things with the abstract art of illusions, it is both complex and simple.” Harue shook her head knowingly, exasperated by the newly old saying.

“That is not to say it is impossible, of course. It is of the same applications as the augmenting of your shadows or the infusion of extra substance to create a stronger thing out of your shadows. I suppose those are the same, though.” She continued as if she had no lungs.

“A reality infused illusion is only quasi real. Like your shadows,” now she spoke as though she were reading right off a technique scroll, but Harue listened with an open mind. “You can simply create a reality in which physical GenJutsu always leave someone damaged, disbelieved or not.”

Harue had been thinking about it all wrong until Matsunaga articulated it differently, pointing out that the reality of her illusions could be so potent that they transcend the planes simply by being quasi-real. Halfreality attempts made for fullreality consequences.

Because Harue was better with learning toe to toe in demonstration, she and Matsunaga head back to the training field for the last portion of their lesson of the day, beginning this time with Harue erecting illusions and then infusing them with the same reality and substance that allowed her shadows to become augmented.

“It’s a basic attempt to cast all perceptions as though they were shadows. Does that make sense?” She’d said almost cryptically right before their little lesson had begun. Harue ruminated on it as she cast upon her sister in an attempt to solidify her varying perceptions with her most apt one.

Like something that teases her, Matsunaga’s lessons repeat themselves almost distractingly in the back of Harue’s head as she attempts to strengthen her different GenJutsu attempts with the weight of her shadows. As Matsunaga was always right, it was complex and simple. Harue clicks her teeth, irritated.

Matsunaga thwarts her attempts upon her vigurously, leaving nearly miniscule room for Harue to act accordingly, to swell the likes of figment or charm with the weight of shadow, to leave a trace of her dark art behind even when Matsunaga successfully disbelieved her. But it was only a lot of a latter and none of Harue’s success.

Finally, once Matsunaga had been worn down a little, Harue took her off guard with an attack that still rung painfully in her cheek once the shadow-infused reality of her figment had disappeared. The purple twin touched her wound as though it were broken skin and blood - Harue knew she’d succeeded, finally. With a nod, Matsunaga confessed to a lesson over.
