Their training was specifically GenJutsu centric as of late, as it had been the last week, and this lesson was not unlike the others. Matsunaga confessed that the infusion of different subtypes to GenJutsu was near endless in possibilities, and she did indeed intend on sharing at least all that she personally knew of.

Next they went on to discuss another infusion, one that Harue found particularly lackluster compared to the others. When would she be attacking undeath? With a tilt of her head, she supposed it wasn’t the most unlikely thing in the world. She’d once dealt with the dead in the past, but they’d been attached to a necromancer.

While Harue listens to Matsunaga’s lesson she also thinks in the back of her head about little inquiries. Does the damage reverberate through the undeath and strike their point of sustenance, the necromancer? Or was it only to smite the undead themselves?

She supposed that was silly. How would the effect possibly travel through the tether which the zombie loses after interrupted resurrection? Harue listens still, nodding her head absently from side to side as Matsunaga explains in detail about the dynamics of the infusion of ‘truth’ to harm the undead.

It was a bit more confusing as a concept compared to the infusion of reality into shadow. What was it that ‘truth’ had to do with using GenJutsu to harm the dead? Or was it nothing to do with truth at all? Must be some sort of philosophicol metaphor. Still, Harue knew that in the long run it was better to listen than to shun out any knowledge might help someday, somehow.

So she listens to Matsunaga babble on about the undead types and subtypes and what forms of GenJutsu can rightfully hurt them. Tangible effects, conjurations, those of the like, would undoubtedly leave some lasting damage through the infusion of truth.

Finally, Harue had to ask. "So... why would I need to use GenJutsu on a zombie? I just don't see the real life application of this. A sword through its neck should be enough." Although it was a generalization, she didn't think it was too inane of her to make the assumption that there would never be a real reason to inflict GenJutsu on the empty vessel of a once-living thing. It made no sense to her.

Matsunaga's expression skewed, seemingly unnerved by Harue's quickness to judge the training content. It was like she had never considered that there might not be a reasonable course of events that would lead to the inevitable collision between GenJutsu and the undead. Instead of responding negatively or impatient however, she straightened and took a moment to think out her response. Tapping the counter, she slowly etched out a notion to her sister.

"Say you are incapable of closing the gap between you and an undead horde in time. Let's say, specifically, you're in an predicament where you've been unarmed. You and your blade are as far apart as you are from the herd. Or even just a single undead. What would you do in that instance?"

Harue opened her mouth to retort, but closed it at the digression she might sound like a smart mouth. She had a number of abilities with which she could inflict hemorrhage and decapitation or even just blind force upon a decaying mass of flesh and withered bones from a distance. But Matsunaga would probably only find a way to shut that down with another hypothetical, so instead Harue only listened to her.

The purple haired twin began to paint a detailed picture in which Harue was alone and surrounded by this imaginary horde, stripped of gear and, on Harue's own placid attempt at letting herself feel more involved with the story, barren of all innate abilities beside GenJutsu. 

Matsunaga, knowing that Harue was a major in the shadow arts, described how Harue could use her GenJutsu to conjure a shadowsword. The pink haired twin cocked her head, picking up the subtle connection her sister was making to her earlier statement in which she mentioned needing only a sword to approach an undead situation.

Through the detailed explanation, the conjured sword would be useful in basis, no? Maybe against someone with a soul and mind to influence, but a zombie is without real cognitive functions outside of the hunger and movement that propels it towards bodies of warmth and blood and food for it to devour. So that conjured sword would do no more damage than a blade crafted of feathers.

So Harue's artificial sword in the hypothetical situation, while usually effective given the pinkette's innate expertise with the arts of shadow against some other opponent, did nothing against the horde closing in around her. With the last of her energy, she would swing in an upward crescent swing, yet soared seamlessly through a crowd of zombies.

Although they are beings, tangible and solid, the shadow clips through each of them despite the reality with which Harue can infuse upon her GenJutsu. Without the truth that can cut through her Jutsu and into the undeath's mind to make them capable of the proper perception required to accept outside and illusionary influences.

With nothing but a shadowsword useless against the zombies due to their inabilities to perceive GenJutsu correctly, Harue inevitably succumbs to the hoard of zombies which pigpile onto her and eat through her GenJutsu to her flesh. With the peach skin and red muscle torn from her bones, Harue was unable to do much but die.

Backing up, Matsunaga brings the painted scene back to the beginning, but this time with an alteration. "Now let's say you were able to infuse your illusions with the kind of matter required to also influence the electromagnetic field produced by brains, translated coherently to fit with the dead brain of, well, the undeath in question."

After assessing Harue's visual response, Matsunaga reworded. "Your GenJutsu can ascertain a type of truth that will resonate with what is left of a zombie's brain and mind. In a way, you bless them with enough understanding in reality to affect them, however negatively or positively you see fit. The undeath often reacts to even positivity inconsistently- healing jutsu pain them, and such forth."

In Matsunaga's new scenario, Harue is capable of the necessary infusion required to infuse her jutsu with enough 'truth' to effect the undead. Surrounded by the same hoard, Harue would conjure the same shadowsword as she always would, yet with a small shift in incantation. 

As the undeath swarms her, Harue's shadowsword is infused with enough 'truth' to strip it of its mind altering components and at the same time grace the zombies with the perception long enough to be physically damaged by the conjuration that usually would do nothing against their deadness. This time, Harue did not die, and instead was able to cleave her sword easily through the crowd.

Coming back from the story, Matsunaga searches Harue for understanding. The pinkette nods, wayward. "I do see what you're getting at," she affirmed, turning her eyes to her sister. "But still. I don't see it ever coming to a situation like that, but... it's useful nonetheless." Matsunaga shifted in her seat a little, nodding. "I'm glad you see the applications of it, in the very least."

Grown bored of all the hypothetical illusion talk, Harue told her sister she’d like to take a day off and focus on something less abstract. Thinking this included her, Matsunaga invited herself along and the two ended in the training fields once again. It was different to face off against the lilac twin using force and strength as opposed to shadows and quasireal illusions, but Matsunaga seemed adamant about taking the teacher approach still.

Matsunaga grew aggressive, and attempted to get Harue to defend herself instead of taking the offense immediately. It fell into how Harue normally operated, giving her a moment to observe how her opponent moved and acted to try and build off of it and find breaks in the flow. Gearing up for the spar, Harue bent her knees and readied herself for constant movement, forgoing her blade and focusing singularly on her stance and agility. She planned on keeping up.

In an attempt to refrain from growing too comfortable and becoming flat-footed, Harue moved and absorbed her situation to try and take a step ahead of the dangers Matsunaga was creating. Her sister was threateningly quick, yet Harue managed to move in tandem. Matsunaga came relentlessly from different angles to catch the pink twin off guard, yet her moment never struck.

When suddenly Matsunaga began to back off, Harue let herself move forward and take lead. After some time at chasing her sister the same way her sister had chased her, Harue understood what she was doing. Watching the fancy foot work her sister laid out in time with the physical attempts Harue made at her - a stealth from behind, a fakeout using a split - Harue started to get a grasp on the style with which the other moved.

Wordlessly, they took turns practicing this kind of dodging. Even though she was not teaching her GenJutsu, Matsunaga still had quite a few things to share with the pinkette. Although Harue didn’t recognize the martial artistry, she was sure that her sister would go into depth about it in due time. Whatever it might be, clearly the lilac twin was well endowed.

When it was Harue’s turn to take the lead of their dance, she finally unsheathed her sword to bring it down from above her sister’s head, emerging from the shadows after some time of fending off the possibility of her sister knowing her location. Having agreed to be free of the Tasukeru, the shadows offered Harue intense advantage.

Even though Harue executed her attempt flawlessly, her sister still seemed to see her coming. Straight from the shadows the pinkette launched forward, towards her turned back with the blade lined up precisely with the point between her shoulder blades. Even though striking would possibly be fatal, the pinkette was disappointed in herself when her sister reacted so seamlessly.

As if she’d heard the mere and soft woosh of the wind moving around Harue’s lithe frame as she moved quickly, Matsunaga dropped her torso and move at a diagonal 40 degree angle, so that her knees were bent entirely under her full weight and she threatened to touch the dirt and grass of the training field. As Harue was forced to follow through with her momentum, Matsunaga spun behind her and extended a leg.

Without much grace, Harue was forced to the dirt after her sister’s foot swept her down by the ankle. She let out a short grunt, her sword clattering noiselessly across the grass as she loses it in favor of catching herself with her hands. ”Yeesh,” she mumbles. ”Thought I had you by surprise there.”

Matsunaga offered a smile and a hand, which Harue took graciously. Some time ago she might have slapped the hand away, but she felt more comfortable with her twin these days. She listened as her sister gave a brief perspective insight, one that sounded a bit recited. As if she’d learned it from a master herself, and was only just passing on the knowledge to a worthy student.

“To be on your toes and dodge effectively is to react even when you’re surprised,”  was the beginning of her long lesson on the actual history of dodging, which Harue tuned out of respectively. She did however listen to the bits that helped, and applied them to the training as it went on. As her turn to dodge fell upon the evening, Harue tried to recreate Matsunaga's own systematic approach at receptive defense.

And failed miserably. "Find your own abnormal response to my attacks," Matsunaga told her as they continued to spar. Instead of attempting a carbon copy version of Matsunaga's earlier display, Harue focused instead on her own process, just as her sister had recommended. Over time, she was able to deliver her own respective elusive counters to Matsunaga's advances, eventually finding her own dance.

Seigan no Kamae and Chudan no Kamae

Description: Seigan no Kamae, Chudan no Kamae The Seigan and Chudan no Kamae are similar in every aspect when it comes to looking at the opponent, having their feet placed down upon the floor, as well as the amount of pressure they have between both of their legs. The user keeps their right or left foot forward having their toes pointing forwards. Their opposite foot is shaped in an "L" shaped keeping their legs in equal motion. Their feet are perpendicular from one another as face forward their feet and legs are in shoulder width apart. This is used as a basic formation to where the user can move from either defensive, or defensive movements. For the Seigan no Kamae stance has their hands relaxed, grasped against the handle of the blade in question. The sword is pointing in a forty five degree angle as their arms are relaxed, hands close towards his hips as one would wait and relax. For the Chudan no Kamae the user keeps the same foot work as that of Seigan but their hands is brought up towards chest level as the sword that they hold is slightly more gripped proof. The sword is pointed forward as the blade is pointed down towards the ground. These stances are mostly known for parrying and blocking, as well as making quick attacks upon the opponent.

Before they continued, Matsunaga took a moment to backtrack and explain to Harue the basic stances that she herself took. There were a couple to show, so Harue followed along closely, taking the time to catch her breath as she attempted to replicate the stances exampled to her. Firstly was the Seigan no Kamae and the Chudan no Kamae, as her sister introduced them. Proper weight distribution between her two feet was key, Matsunaga insisted, showing her with her own body how to position herself over the floor. Facing each other, the two twins mirrored each other - dominant foot forward, toes pointing at each other, with the opposite back and knee bent ever so slightly, maintaining a soft sway. With blades pointed downwards in this stance, Matsnaga explained, they were susceptible to parrying and blocking, or moving quickly.

Tenchi Hasso no Kamae and Fudo no Kamae

Description: Tenchi Hasso no Kamae , Fudo no Kamae , The Tenchi Hasso and Fudo no Kamae are similar to that of closely towards that of Seigan and Chudan no Kamae to where the footing is quite similar. The user keeps their right or left foot forward having their toes pointing forwards. Their opposite foot is shaped in an "L" shaped keeping their legs in equal motion. Their feet are perpendicular from one another as face forward their feet and legs are in shoulder width apart. With the Tenchi Hasso no Kamae the user holds the sword more closely towards their sides. The body is slightly slanted a little more as the user holds the sword tightly. This is mostly used for a defensive form of the stance as the user keeps the sword pointing upwards. For Fudo no Kamae the user uses this stance in more of an offensive form. The user would face the opponent as their arms are raised up holding the hilt of the blade. The sword is slanted in a diagonal form but the user keeps this stance and holds it tightly. This stance is mostly used for attacks that deal with downward strikes, but as well as the type of movements for confusing the enemy with sliding attacks.

The continued stances, Tenchi Hasso no Kamae and Fudo no Kamae, were equally as easily executed yet still crucial to the proper movements and attacks born of the fighting style Harue was studying, Matsunaga continuing to point out the correctness of her posture and helping to distribute her weight and form specifically. “Back leg bent,” she reminded her sister, to which Harue made a soft noise and corrected herself. The only real important difference between these and the first two is the position of the sword, arm tucked closer into the body so the sword is nearer to the dominant side. Harue felt silly holding the pose for even just a couple seconds, her knees trembling under her weight, listening as Matsunaga explained the practicality of this stance as well. “Downward strikes and confusing, erratic movement stem from this stance,” she says.

Hiryu no Kamae and Chosui no Kamae

Description: Hiryu no Kamae , Chosui no Kamae , The two stances known as Hiryu and Chosui no Kamae keep the same concept as that of the other stances within the past such as Tenchi Hasso no Kamae, Fudo no Kamae, Seigan no Kamae and Chudan no Kamae to where the user keeps their right or left foot forward having their toes pointing forwards. Their opposite foot is shaped in an "L" shaped keeping their legs in equal motion. Their feet are perpendicular from one another as face forward their feet and legs are in shoulder width apart. The two stances are both mirrored against one another, as both stances have their attacking arm, the arm that is the same as the leg that is forward at the base of the hilt, while the other arm is at the end of the hilt. The sword is pointing downwards almost touching the ground as the arm is held straight holding the sword in a forty five degree angle downwards.

They were nearing the end of the stance lessons in due time yet they still were not through. Harue wanted to let out a groan - how many stances could there be to one style of fighting? Still, she listened to her sister and mirrored the stance, bowing to key details. The Hiryu no Kamae and Chosui no Kamae, Matsunaga explained, kept the same concept as the stances previous. Only re-positioning her upper body, Harue moved through the slow motions to bring her attacking arm forward with her parallel leg, pointing her sword almost entirely towards the ground, elbow unbent and fingers curled tightly around the hilt. Matsunaga nodded approvingly, appreciative of Harue's willingness to maneuver like liquid to Matsunaga's suggestions to her posture.
